To ask if this could be a meconium leak TMI WARNING

I am 9 months pregnant, due in a few days, just had a gush of water down below, it felt like when I have my period so I immediately thought "blood". However it is just water but a light brown colour (have white knickers on) - why would it be light brown? Meconium? Old blood? Or nothing to worry about? Have had a few twinges but I'm 99.9% sure they are not contractions but pressure. Don't want to phone maternity unit unless I really really need to. Google not much help!

I would phone the maternity unit as I'm not sure if it's a cause for concern or not. They will probably tell you to put a pad on and monitor whether more is coming. I am sure they won't mind you calling.

It could be just your waters but I did have meconium in mine so it would be worth giving them a ring just to get checked. It could also be absolutely nothing to worry about x

Yes, definitely do. I had this. By the time I went and was admitted, my waters were desperately thick with his meconium. The midwife said "like chocolate" eww. My poor lad was covered bless him.

Put a pad in, phone mat unit and be prepared to go in (arrangements for other dc/bags packed/etc).

Ok I phoned but feel like a bit of a twat as they asked if I could bring the knickers in for them to have a look as could be just a bit of wee, but I had to say I've actually popped them in the wash as I was putting a white wash on anyway which in hindsight was a stupid fucking thing to do but hey ho.

Have been advised to wear a pad ("and don't bin it!" ) and monitor any twinges and call back in a couple of hours!

Don't worry I did the same ! I had a very similar experience and was merconiun in fact all of my births had merconium in. Keep in contact with midwife and good luck!

Is it still trickling? Once my waters went they didn't really stop until after the birth.

It's more likely watery discharge and diluted show (old mucusy blood) from inside a shortening & softening cervix - but glad you called and are monitoring it.

Mec diluted is normally green

Not always oyster; with my 3rd labour my hind waters broke with a minor gush, but my son's head sealed the water and very little more leaked. Very unlike my other two labours that began with forewaters breaking and thereafter gushed with every step.
Try laying down and coughing a bit, letting the waters pool in your vagina then you may get a bit more on standing. If it's meconium you need to know about it. Good luck.

I had meconium in the waters and I remember it being a yellowy colour. I would personally ring back and ask to come in and be examined, I'm actually shocked they've not suggested this when you've said you think there might be meconium, by the time you get there you'll likely have something on the pad for them to check.
