Phrases you really hate on MN

cathf · 07/01/2017 14:17

Following on from the fabulous type of threads you really hate on here, I thought I would start a similar thread for phrases used on MN that really get your goat.
I'll start off with 'in this house', usually used in conjunction with some smug statement to make the OP feel inadequate/bad.
For example 'Oh, we love books in this house!' or 'there's no faddy eaters allowed in this house' or 'we all have to respect each other in this house'.
Over to you ....

Oi!
Simples is a perfectly good word.

In Portuguese.

But a good word. Grin

f83mx · 07/01/2017 19:48

Adding 'D' to everything - especially when on a massive ranty post moaning about said 'DH/DC' etc.

Only1scoop · 07/01/2017 19:48

'Batshit crazy'
Cannot abide it. Makes me twitch

Fuzzypeggy · 07/01/2017 19:56

Teeth itching
Clutching pearls
Naice
Spitting on keyboard / wetting oneself from laughing so much
Hth
Wow just wow
Just that really
..., no?
Jealous much?
Entitled
Grabby
All the raised eyebrow etc emojis

Fuzzypeggy · 07/01/2017 19:56

And MEH!!!!!

QueenMortificado · 07/01/2017 20:07

The word "disingenuous" seems to be massively overused on MN, I never hear it much in RL at all

Also people who say "I haven't read the thread but...." What makes you think anyone gives a toss about your opinion over anyone else's?!

TheCompanyOfCats · 07/01/2017 20:08

Ooh i forgot about 'batshit crazy', or just 'batshit'. That's been driving me up the wall for years, on and off MN. It always seems so American-wannabe. Or like something an over-excited Buzzfeed 'journalist' would use in a bid to sound cool.

Only1scoop · 07/01/2017 20:38

Thecompany
I'm not alone then Smile

TheCompanyOfCats · 07/01/2017 20:53

I'm hoping that it'll go out of fashion soon Only1Scoop

I find it a little sad that so many of you hate language that has been used on MN for 10+ yrs or so

All the fuck off to the far side of fucking wherever seems a little over the top but I guess it is the best that they can do with the vocabulary that they possess

mycatwantstokillme1 · 07/01/2017 21:20

Ronald I don't think the words I hate (boak, snarky) have been around for 10+ years. Even if they had , why do you think it's sad? We have all likes & dislikes even if they can be irrational!
One thing I'll always hate (although I've never seen it used on MN) is using 'sick' to describe something good, I'll never, ever forgive the bastard that got that craze going!

Tanith · 07/01/2017 21:22

I always think of Biscuitsandbandages when I see "This too will pass"
It was her last post SadSad

skinnymalinkmalojin · 07/01/2017 21:35

Drama Llama Hmm

Manumission · 07/01/2017 21:38

I keep wondering how the crumbs are doing Tanith. She set them up well. I hope they're okay.

Only1scoop · 07/01/2017 21:38

Oh BiscuitsSad

RonaldMcDonald · 07/01/2017 21:40

boak and snarky have been around for 10 yrs
boak more prevalent than snark

I think you can hold all the feelings you want about language likes and dislikes, as can I. We are on the same page there.

My point was that there have been certain terms used on mn for so long and as a result of certain threads that they almost make up part of the fabric of mn. It saddens me when they are really hated as it feels as though some of the history of mn then and perhaps the people who came before are rolled up in that

limitedperiodonly · 07/01/2017 21:42

'How dare you go to A&E. You are the reason why the NHS is crumbling.'

TrickyD · 07/01/2017 21:46

Posts which start "So, ..."
Pressies for presents
Most things which have been mentioned apart from "snarky" of which I am rather fond.

cherrycrumblecustard · 07/01/2017 21:47

I hate one word answers that sound more like barked commands than messages of support.

'Nanny.' as opposed to 'that sounds like a tough choice - would a nanny work for your family at this time?'

Bantanddec · 07/01/2017 21:50

'Name changed for this' and then go on to explain every tiny detail of a situation practically down to names and places!!

CommunionHelp · 07/01/2017 21:55

So many of the above. Also 'nom' and 'eats' as in 'we budgeted around £30 for eats.'

limitedperiodonly · 07/01/2017 22:03

Yum

FiveShelties · 07/01/2017 22:07

DH, DS. DC, DM- why does everyone put D in front on their relations. Is everyone really so keen on all their family?

Rixera · 07/01/2017 22:08

'odd'.
I think it very odd that you do this...
No. You clearly don't. You just disagree and are trying to imply they are a bit wrong in the head, utilising the most simperingly passive aggressive phrasing you can muster.
