surely noone can defend that?

It's three and a half months till easter. What possible reason could there be for the supermarkets to have hot cross buns and easter eggs already?

For some reason the thin hollow chocolate tastes better.

Tbf this is coming from someone who hasn't had an Easter egg for 3 years... mini eggs though is another matter

SparkleShinyGlitter · 03/01/2017 20:03

We've got Easter eggs in the Morrisons here

LadyOfTheCanyon · 03/01/2017 20:06

I got into a stand up row with my aunt a few years ago who is fucking mental has very strong views about HCBs and the eating thereof.

It's still spoken about in our family as "That" argument. Grin

SquedgieBeckenheim · 03/01/2017 20:08

Saw mini eggs in my local Sainsburys the day before Christmas Eve...

SpareASquare · 03/01/2017 21:26

I do wonder who the fuck has space to store Easter eggs for months

Store Easter Eggs? People do that? LOL (says she who may have discovered a hidden, forgotten stash whilst cleaning her room last week)

Love that they are out, best part about the end of Christmas, though haven't bought my first mini eggs yet. I figure it can only happen because of consumers so, obviously, people are buying or it wouldn't be worth it.

QueenMortificado · 03/01/2017 21:28

How can you hate hot cross buns??

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU

DodoRevival · 03/01/2017 21:31

Hot cross buns all year round? What? How did I not know this!!!! I don't think my supermarket does.

Can I campaign for mini eggs all year round too?

AChickenCalledKorma · 03/01/2017 21:33

My local M&S today has a display stand which includes Christmas-themed chocolate, big red heart shaped boxes for Valentine's Day AND Easter Eggs - full size as well as mini. All on the same display. My mind was well and truly boggled.

I know I don't have to buy them (and I don't) but it really spoils the rhythm of the year rolling around for me. I just don't want to see Easter till March. It doesn't take a month to choose an egg.

Artandco · 03/01/2017 21:34

I eat mince pies all year around also

croon979 · 03/01/2017 21:35

YABU - eaten all year in this household. Would be bereft without them! Easter Eggs however, I object to them being in the shops this early. I'm inconsistent like that....

PhilODox · 03/01/2017 21:36

HXBs are divine!
Thank goodness Christ was crucified, eh?

SunnySideDownUp · 03/01/2017 21:37

YABU they're yummy and should be avaliable all year around.

BakeOffBiscuits · 03/01/2017 21:49

I saw Easter eggs in M&S on Saturday.

It was still Dec fgs. It made me really cross and I vowed not to buy any Easter eggs from there. I'm sure they won't give a toss

Nokia3310 · 03/01/2017 21:53

Mrs Hathaway...come on...share the recipe

alfagirl73 · 03/01/2017 21:55

They're just yummy buns to me; Easter means absolutely nothing to me so hot cross buns are just nice things to eat any time. Toasted with butter... yummyyyyy!!!

Easter egg hold no more significance to me than the buns so shops can sell them whenever they want as far as I'm concerned.

MrsHathaway · 03/01/2017 23:14

I'm upstairs and cba to go and rummage for the book with the HCB recipe in it. Remind me in the morning Wink

noeffingidea · 03/01/2017 23:38

Why does it matter to you, OP? If you don't want to buy them then don't.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 03/01/2017 23:49

People always say this but I genuinely don't understand why people get so upset about it? You ask why the supermarkets can't "let you enjoy" the time of year it is but I don't see how it stops you from enjoying it? If I see merchandising out early it has literally no impact on me but I see people ranting about it on Facebook. Just walk to the next aisle.

DancingHouse · 04/01/2017 01:12

Why do you need a calender date to eat a specific item?

kel12345 · 04/01/2017 01:31

Ooh I want to find some tomorrow now.

Oh YABU. I soo heart HCBs and would eat them all day every day if I could.
Anything to do with spring coming I am very happy to see this time of year.
I felt really smiley and happy at seeing some pots of narcissi in the shop the other day. Blush

ForalltheSaints · 04/01/2017 07:18

I think if anything resembling a hot cross bun had a 20p tax other than between February and May then this practice would stop.

noenergy · 04/01/2017 08:20

Tesco had a small selection of little eggs a few days after xmas. Yesterday I couldn't resist n bought some mini eggs. Have already scoffed them!!

ComeLuckyApril · 04/01/2017 08:40

MrsH I would love the recipe! I eat them year round. They aren't just for Easter!
