Not to send thank you cards age 4?

My son just had a small 4th birthday party (5 guests) and opened and thanked guests for their presents there and then.

AIBU not to send thank you cards as well? Some people have done it this year so it seems to be a thing to send them but generally parties have been bigger and they weren't opened there and then?

A text is fine.

My side doesn't ever give or expect thank you cards, not sure about dh's side. Every year without fail, whenever the dc receive gifts from dh side, MIL asks me if I would like some paper and a pen to write down who gave what. And every year without fail, I tell her that dh is in charge of thank you cards. Sometimes he gets around to getting the dc to write cards and sometimes he doesn't. I do wonder if it's me that gets judged when he doesn't get round to it.

I don't do them and never have. They go straight in the bin here. Such a waste!
