Inspired by the bin thread. How many of you actually wash your fruit and/or veg before eating or cooking it? I never have, do people really do this?

No, I don't assume that all chemicals are bad, far from it. Some posters are saying chemicals bad and then washing their food with chemicals. You hit the nail on the head - not enough, we are ill; too much, we are ill. Some pesticides seem to work in that way, and let's not forget the whole fluoridation argument (but that's for another thread!!).

Ah I see. I just assumed people were using chemicals as a short hand for chemical pesticides and other chemicals used in the production process rather than stipulating more precisely.

Quick rinse if it's muddy but otherwise no - not if it's being cooked.

I always wash them, prepacked states wash before use on the packaging and loose veg/fruit you dont know whos been to the toilet, not washed their hands and handled it before you bought it 😷 does no harm to give it all a quick wash xx

What Fairylea said on the first page is the reason they gave us at school about thoroughly washing and NOT just rubbing apples with your sleeve etc. before eating them: all the chemicals. I am shocked that people don't follow it.

Mumstheword You do realise that most fields that grow vegetables have chicken shit sprayed all over them as a fertiliser (not organic unless it comes from organic chickens).

The earth in the fields and woods etc. is made up of billions and billions of bacteria created from decaying matter etc. As I said upthread.

Oh I can't be arsed, I've got more important things to do. My mum never did it when we were kids and we all turned out fine. In fact, the reason kids get ill so easily these days is because they aren't exposed to things like mud and germs in the same way we were as kids.

You do know it's all literally grown in shit anyway? That's what fertiliser is. It won't do you any harm. If you're cooking it, you'll kill any bacteria anyway.

Yes Babycham (great name btw Grin ) That's what I was trying to say Grin the advertisers have done a brilliant job haven't they?
