'Love her' 'respect him'

Someone I used to go to school with has posted pictures of matching Tattoos saying 'Love her' (for him) and 'respect him' (for her).

It doesn't sit comfortably with me... I know it's totally up to them, not my skin or relationship but... it just seems all wrong.
The man must be respected and obeyed and the woman loved an adored... feels a bit 1950's to me.

DP says I'm massively over thinking it, I said I'd open it up to the MN jury.

AIBU?

Weird and rather sad. I hope she is ok. I can't imagine anyone thinking it sounds healthy.

JassyRadlett · 01/01/2017 18:16

Awful awful awful.

And if it's an intentional Biblical reference - Well, much of the Bible is sexist bollocks too.

CaptainHammer · 01/01/2017 18:16

Yanbu

EllaHen · 01/01/2017 18:17

The 'respect him' sounds like a command. Like she needs reminded whereas the 'love her' sounds like a statement of fact.

Thus - YANBU. You need to manspain this to your dh.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 01/01/2017 18:23

Eew ..

KlingybunFistelvase · 01/01/2017 18:24

Yanbu. And ick.

AyeAmarok · 01/01/2017 18:26

Urgh.

Something about that tells me he absolutely does not respect her...

Jux · 01/01/2017 18:45

YANBU; nasty sexist undertones.

Simonneilsbeard · 01/01/2017 18:50

Also ...as matching tattoos go these sound shit (outwith the rubbish, sexist message)
If they split up she's left with the words 'respect him' ..it's utterly daft.
Boggles my brain as to why anyone would tattoo that on themselves..she hasn't thought that through.

Arkhamasylum · 01/01/2017 18:51

It sounds like there's a serious power imbalance there. If it's a sex thing, it's supremely creepy to show people. In any case, I predict they're going to be the type of couple who ends up shouting 'fuck you!' at each other in the street. They're compensating for something. It's made me feel really queasy.

MapMyMum · 01/01/2017 18:53

Nope it's awful, for the same reason I refused to honour and obey my husband unless he did the same for me!

JustWoman · 01/01/2017 18:58

Yanbu and I'd rather be an over thinker than an under thinker any day if the week :)

ChristmasCakeAndCrisps · 01/01/2017 19:08

YANBU.

Gross. Sexist.

And as an aside - don't get matching tattoos...they can be a bitch to cover up later Grin

justanotherusername0 · 01/01/2017 19:09

Yanbu!

C8H10N4O2 · 01/01/2017 19:32

Sexist and particularly inappropriate for posting by a school - they should be combatting sexism not promoting it.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 01/01/2017 19:37

She could have "My arse!" Underneath it.

Sofassogood · 01/01/2017 19:44

Posted by a school? Confused Where does it say that?

C8H10N4O2 · 01/01/2017 19:58

Oh my bad, apologies I misread it and thought it was posted by the school It was a very late night last night....Blush

Sofassogood · 01/01/2017 19:59

C8H10N4O2 · 01/01/2017 20:02

Oh I really shouldn't...but all the offspring and last of the rellies went home today (just dropped the last one off at the airport).

So maybe just the one Wine

Love them all dearly, love having them but OMG the blessed peace has now descended and I have crap tv to catch up on!

CrockedPot · 01/01/2017 20:06

Seriously? It's not on your body? What the fuck has it got to do with you?

AtrociousCircumstance · 01/01/2017 20:20

If I were you I'd be irritated and disappointed that your DP doesn't understand why it's sexist.

Marynary · 01/01/2017 20:26

If I saw that I would think they probably had a sub/dom relationship. Either that or she doesn't love him and "respect" is the best thing she could come up with. I'm not sure why they would want to advertise it on facebook.

CrockedPot · 02/03/2018 22:46

Well they are a bit thick, aren’t they? So why worry about them?

StickThatInYourPipe · 02/03/2018 22:55

I think it’s a bit grim but I don’t know why everyone is assuming he picked the tattoos.
