Use wire cutters on niece's ear piercing?

justwanttoweeinpeace · 31/12/2016 15:30

Niece had a clip ear piercing done a few weeks ago. It's one of those ones that supposedly can't be removed by anyone other than a professional.

It's starting to turn nasty and she wants it removing, but with the holidays coming up there's nowhere to get it done.

WWBU just to chop the ring with wire cutters and remove it that way?

I meant to add that in this case I'd have just left it and let the ABs do their job

BravoPanda · 31/12/2016 21:04

Coffee, I still have all of mine apart from my nose. Kept hitting myself in the face in my sleep too much so it would flare up and started playing contact sports so was better out than in. My labret or tunnels however I never worried about Hmm maybe I'm a bit odd!

blueistheonlycolourwefeel · 31/12/2016 21:06

Is it an ACCIDENT or an EMERGENCY? No, it isn't. Unless she's got a raging temperature with her icky ear, A&E would be a MASSIVE over reaction and even with the temp, I'd still say it was overkill. And I'm a HCP.
On NYE, you would be extremely unpopular if you turned up there!!!

haveacupoftea · 31/12/2016 21:14

foureyes no one seems to think A&E is for actual emergencies, thats why if you break a hip, have a heart attack or get acid in your eye you'll have to sit for hours surrounded by people with infected piercings and coughs and colds.

When will people get the message that A&E isn't a walk in clinic for when the doctors is shut for a few hours??

kali110 · 31/12/2016 21:36

Batfurger it is not overkill, sometimes ab are the only thing that willsort it. You can clean it as much as possible but will not get rid of a bad infection.
It is not emnarassing at all Confused

beyond all i've had piercings put on that tight that i've had to get another piercer to undo them so i wouldn't say the girl is bullshitting.
If she hasn't had any before she may not no how to get it off.
Have you never had a ring on that tight? I have! ( which is why i never wear the ball enclsure ones, to fiddly).

Ricekrispiesquare · 31/12/2016 21:51

I had a nipple piercing years ago that wouldn't heal and was advised to use TCP- healed within the week!

kali110 · 31/12/2016 23:14

Ricekrispiesquare really? Didn't it hurt??
I always shove on fusidic cream if one of mine acts up, usually stops an infection in it's tracks.

Batfurger · 31/12/2016 23:33

Rolling my eyes so hard. It's a massively indulgent use of the NHS. The evidence base for the use of systemic antibiotics in the case of local infection does not exist. Get some fucking savlon and get her to grow up a bit.

EveOnline2016 · 31/12/2016 23:41

Very rare cases a&e is required, this is why the ear is so swollen it is covering the piercing.

A&e is not for a simple infection that a doctor has prescribed antibiotics.

kali110 · 31/12/2016 23:53

batfuger roll your eyes as much as you want.
I've had piercings for over a decade so i know how to clean them and what to do when there is a sign of infection.
In all that time i've needed ab about 3 times.
No amount of salt water or cream will clear up a piercing that's swollen with puss.

Batfurger · 31/12/2016 23:58

You must be very proud of your use of resources. Evidence is evidence but clearly your huge knowledge of having peircings overrides that.

Still rolling.

kali110 · 01/01/2017 04:02

Don't worry bat i have disabilities so i have to see my gp regulary, so it's not wasting any resources thanks Grin
It's not my knowledge, but the knowledge of the gps...... ( and if something is oozing pus but no you must know better than other doctors too Hmm

This thread represents everything that's rotten in the state of MN at the moment.

Only on MN will you find someone honking about disregarding the advice of a professional, because she's a MUM and SHE HAS PIERCINGS TOO. Good for you - I don't care, because as a professional body piercer who is hugely invested in and devoted to what I do, it's part of my job to politely smack you the fuck down.

YOU DON'T KNOW EVERYTHING. The reason you have come to one of us in the first place is because YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO PIERCE. So why do you suddenly morph into a godlike expert as soon as a fresh piercing gets touched by grubby fingers?

Headofthehive55 · 01/01/2017 06:41

Great. The more we use antibiotics, the quicker we won't have any for people who have live saving surgery.

C8H10N4O2 · 01/01/2017 11:09

I can tell you exactly why I overruled the 'professional piercer' my offspring went to - they were bloody incompetent, hadn't checked offspring's age and plainly were not operating a hygienic practice. I'm not a piercer but I recognised a shit job when I saw one.

When I followed up they had form for bad practice - took offspring to the very good local practitioner who did operate more professionally and he knew the culprit. He had a steady trail of customers with similar experiences from them.

Its a pity the training doesn't afford a protected title status - (unless it does these days?).

C8H10N4O2 · 01/01/2017 11:10

that is 'I took'

BeyondIBringYouGoodTidings · 01/01/2017 12:10

Sorry beauty, who are you talking to?

And as you are a piercer, can you clarify - would a piercing ever be done with the ring outside of Claire's acccessories, of course

Ricekrispiesquare · 02/01/2017 21:48

kali110

No it didn't... Stank though!
