Use wire cutters on niece's ear piercing?

Niece had a clip ear piercing done a few weeks ago. It's one of those ones that supposedly can't be removed by anyone other than a professional.

It's starting to turn nasty and she wants it removing, but with the holidays coming up there's nowhere to get it done.

WWBU just to chop the ring with wire cutters and remove it that way?

Does she want them removed for good?
Many moons ago got ears pierced due to peer pressure.
Got infected [my own fault] and got rid. They were removable. Remember the pus hitting the mirror [apologies!] when applied slight pressure.
Holes healed over and have tiny dot scars and a slight lump feel in each ear lobe if bother to press. Never missed not having ear rings....
If cannot remove herself out of hours will be able to/ walk in clinic rather than A and E...

BravoPanda · 31/12/2016 16:08

Why have people been taking kids to A&E to get a flipping closed ring taken out of their ear?!

What a fucking waste of NHS time and money for something that you could just stretch with needle nose pliers and it will open up or you can just clip easily with a basic pair of pliers Hmm

Are people really that inept these days?

KathArtic · 31/12/2016 16:09

If she went to a reputable pierced she should have been given some written care instructions?

justwanttoweeinpeace · 31/12/2016 16:09

Right, she's in the bathroom with saline solution and her antibiotics. Assuming nothing gets worse we won't be seeing a doctor.

Her parents aren't getting involved, which would require another thread Confused

Thanks all for the advice!

Oh these piercings don't require a professional. Just brute force. You kind of have to twist both the ball and the ring and the ball will ping out.

But as others have said if you take it out then the infection will get trapped in there and be worse

liz70 · 31/12/2016 16:17

I had to yank DD3's nose stud/ring thingy out with pliers when it got stuck. Hasn't put her off getting more bloody piercings - the tongue was next! Hmm

Lorelei76 · 31/12/2016 16:18

Still really confused what kind of piercing this is
The ball ones just need pliers.

JacquesHammer · 31/12/2016 16:20

Ball closure rings don't even need pliers. The ball will just pop out.

What type of ring is it?

BeyondIBringYouGoodTidings · 31/12/2016 16:21

Pair of pliers would get the ball/join out, but I wouldn't recommend it.

It's new year - get some vodka on her ear. Then both stop being so melodramatic and give the ABs chance to work

BeyondIBringYouGoodTidings · 31/12/2016 16:22

I'm suspicious that if it has been "pierced with the ring itself" and is now infected, she got it done by some dodgy place.

Then there's the fun risk of things like hepatitis to worry about...

Use wire cutters on niece's ear piercing?
jellyandsoup · 31/12/2016 16:28

I remember my dad doing this to me as a kid, I had a hoop ring in and my ear love was swelling around it, was horrible!! No lasting damage done tho.

kali110 · 31/12/2016 16:30

Wash with sea salt, 3 times a day.
'Removing them will keep the infection in'?
That has never happened to me or been said to me in the 17 years i've had piercings, infact my gp was always trying to get me to take mine out!Grin gave up very quickly.
You can remove the ball enclosure, use pliers or scissors and prise the piercing open.
Personally i would take it out and keep cleaning it and not put it back in.
Wth did she get this done?? ( friends by any chance? Not any reputable piercer!)

DollyPlastic · 31/12/2016 16:33

I have lots of piercings but I have no idea what you're on about here.

They shouldn't use the jewellery to make the hole Shock

AllOfTheCoffee · 31/12/2016 16:45

Are you sure she really wants it out and is not trying to placate you? She must know she can remove it herself quite easily.

Those hoops pop out easily, you just push the ball out. I have never heard of a piercing that cannot be removed and I've had pretty much everything pierced at one point or another.

BeyondIBringYouGoodTidings · 31/12/2016 16:46

Have we established why it is anything to do with her auntie yet?

AllOfTheCoffee · 31/12/2016 16:51

I think aunty disagrees with the way neice is being raised and interferes. Neice is trying to placate her/get her to stfu by telling her she cannot remove the piercing.

My dd has an aunty like that. Always inferring I am neglectful by allowing her a bottle of WKD on the weekends and letting her dye her hair. I would imagine peircings would be recieved much the same way.

Lorelei76 · 31/12/2016 16:54

Coffee, such wild assumptions about aunt!

Silvercatowner · 31/12/2016 16:57

I know it would be impossible to draw the line with regard to what should be paid for and what should be free at point of care, but I really wish there was a mechanism whereby numpties in this sort of situation could be forced to pay for NHS treatment.

Celaena · 31/12/2016 16:58

My tummy piercing wouldn't heal, talking 6 months plus? Really sore all the time - I removed it and it was fine (obvious this doesn't mean it would be OK for everyone) I was apprehensive about removing it because of worrying about the infection being trapped, but taking it out was the best thing for me

AllOfTheCoffee · 31/12/2016 16:59

Maybe it was a bit harsh. I apologise.

I just cannot fathom how someone can believe a piercing can't open. The niece must have seen it being closed or at least felt them popping the ball in. They normally open it on a table in front of you too, so how can she not reaslise it will open?

I mean when you think about it, how does she think it got in there in the first place if it doesn't open?

She must surely know how to take it out.

BeyondIBringYouGoodTidings · 31/12/2016 17:03

Perhaps the piercer literally welded it shut. Seems a tad excessive.

BeyondIBringYouGoodTidings · 31/12/2016 17:05

I wonder where the op has gone. Perhaps DN has been bluelighted in.

Lorelei76 · 31/12/2016 17:23

Maybe OP doesn't have any or any knowledge of piercings which is allowed you know.

I still don't think clip means the ball type either

I found that hard to remove so I suppose it's possible the niece might think she couldn't.

Lorelei76 · 31/12/2016 17:24

Sorry that was to Coffee!
