I'm never going to another New Year party again.

That's my resolution. I'm in Oz by the way...we've had New Year...it's 2017 here now.

I went tonight even though I didn't want to...I've never wanted to go to New Year's parties because I just find them stressful.

I'm all for a bottle of wine or whatever...with a couple of friends...but a crowded house, brimming with people's kids...who're running around unchecked...everyone getting smashed and shouting over each other.

YUK!

I always go when asked because I feel it's impolite not to...DH and I have a group of mates who just love a drink and a party but DH stopped drinking completely a year ago and I can hold about two before I start wobbling and feeling like I want to lie down!

It's never fun and I don't like seeing people's kids around that sort of thing.

Our DC were babysat by their Gran...I came home early...snuk out! I"m now in dressing gown and glad to be home!

That's also my idea of a nightmare. I hate crowds of bloody people. There's always a loud mouth comment passer as well. I don't mind children. Often they behave better than aduke.
. I hate new year. Its just another day to me. I just stay in and watch TV. I couldn't be doing with people who don't speak to all year round throwing their arms around me.

Where you born in Australia or is it your adopted home

user1477282676 · 31/12/2016 14:41

Euphemia thank you! And to you when yours comes!

Spider there IS always a loud comment passer! I'm not from Oz no....DH is though.

I just think that I've done it too many times now...said yes just to be polite when I hate it!

I'm not going to one this evening either. 5 month old DC1 was invited too but can't imagine anything worse than leaving her in a strange bedroom to sleep whilst there is a load of other kids and adults running around in a house too small for the number of people that have been invited. One of us would have to drive due to the location and impossibility of getting a taxi (plus be sober to care for DD) and then putting her in car seat in early hours etc etc.

I'm probably overthinking it but am looking forward to staying in and just watching the fireworks on TV.

Happy New Year all Wine

expatinscotland · 31/12/2016 14:43

I last went to a NY party in 1992.

user1477282676 · 31/12/2016 14:44

Expat you're not missing anything as I'm sure you're aware!

Many years ago I made a new years resolution not to do social obligation any more. My life has been so much happier since. If you don't want to go out, don't go out. An invite should be just that, not a summons.

FYI this evening I will be watching the last Harry Potter Movie with DD and a half bottle of champagne. Canny wait!

expatinscotland · 31/12/2016 14:46

I'm usually in bed before the bells.

MudCity · 31/12/2016 14:48

My idea of hell. I can't remember the last time I went out on NYE. I think it was the Millenium year and I had flu so it was horrible.

Happy New Year!

Littleballerina · 31/12/2016 14:49

Surely you are just going to the wrong kind of party with the wrong kind of people?
I've not been out on nye for the past 4 years because of work and am working again tonight. I don't miss it but probably would go if I could.

RJnomore1 · 31/12/2016 14:51

I've never ever been to a new year party. I don't think I'm missing much but it does make me slightly sad.

TurnipCake · 31/12/2016 14:51

This is my third NYE staying in and I love it. Fella is going to a party, I'm staying in with a bottle of red, good book followed by a bath and I might stretch it to watching the fireworks on TV if I'm still up

Gingernaut · 31/12/2016 14:56

I work nights.

I stay up late, clock watch and get paid for it.

A NYE party usually means I've paid to stay up late and clock watch with a bunch of people who I wouldn't normally spend time with. Usually with good reason.

Fun arranged to a timetable. No fun.

I enjoyed it as a teenager-student as getting pissed was generally just fun.

DHs bro always has a party - he always rings at 12:05 because everyone has gone home and he wants to moan.
He never understands that it's fine for his children as they could go to bed when they wanted and he doesn't have transport issues.

He seems to thinks 3 year olds should stay up no bother and doesn't see why people have to get taxis so early (only times available).
So we've never been Smile

For once I'm happy to have a stinking cold as it gives me the perfect excuse not to go Grin

SocksRock · 31/12/2016 15:02

I'm off to our local with the kids at 4.30 for a couple of hours then home to bed for tea and bed for them. DH is going to the other local to watch some men kick a ball around a field, he'll be home by 7.30, then we are going to get slowly hammered on naice gin, and maybe make it until midnight.

Lorelei76 · 31/12/2016 15:02

I like a party in NYE but it has to be no kids, otherwise I'd lose my mind.

Also need to be not crowded.

MsAwesomeDragon · 31/12/2016 15:08

It's 17 years since I last went to a NY party. Dd1 was 8 weeks old and I took her with me to my friend's dinner party. Her parents looked after DD, which was lovely of them, but honestly I would have preferred her to be close to me all the time (I know they are brilliant with babies, they had 5 of their own kids)

I've not been to another one since. We'll probably stay up til midnight, and might even let 6yo dd2 stay up too. But we're not doing anything like a party!

nauticant · 31/12/2016 15:13

It's been a while since I did a "proper" NYE party. Tonight will be a far more reasonable evening with a group of friends. Unfortunately there will be compulsory board games which will just have to be the part of the evening to be endured.

PNGirl · 31/12/2016 15:14

I'm staying at my parents' for the weekend and we plus DH are going for a curry. We'll be back for 10pm - poor dog is terrified of fireworks!

Topseyt · 31/12/2016 15:16

I have only been to one NYE party since having my DDs, and the eldest of them is now 21.

I am another who doesn't miss it at all. I always did find it overrated.

I do stay up, with a drink, maybe a book and the TV if there are any decent films on. I do have to keep watch on my dog, who is terrified of fireworks.

MycatsaPirate · 31/12/2016 15:20

We are dodging a party for the very reasons you have stated.

Hosts children act like they are feral and think it's fucking hilarious to go round hitting people/each other/throw toys about. This goes unchecked all evening and everyone does the polite 'aww they are so sweet' crap that just makes their parents think it's acceptable behaviour.

And the forced 'hilarity' of fancy dress and party games.

No thank you.

We are staying home with DD2. Teen is going out with her friends and Dp will drop them off just before we go to bed and in the morning will leave them hungover in the living room while we go and watch the bath tub race down at the harbour.

Happy new year!

lazarusb · 31/12/2016 15:23

Happy New Year op!

My granddad died on December 30th 2008 so I haven't partied on NYE since then. I just don't like having to stay until past midnight/drinking for hours on end/pretending you're having the best night ever.

We stay in now - nice meal, Champagne at midnight, watch the fireworks on TV, then bed. No hassle or expensive taxis!

loobyloo1234 · 31/12/2016 15:28

NY is so over-rated, expensive and boring. I'm going to a house party later more out of feeling obliged. I'll go, have a few drinks, sing Auld Lang Syne and then come home. Bloody rubbish isn't it?
