I'm never going to another New Year party again.

That's my resolution. I'm in Oz by the way...we've had New Year...it's 2017 here now.

I went tonight even though I didn't want to...I've never wanted to go to New Year's parties because I just find them stressful.

I'm all for a bottle of wine or whatever...with a couple of friends...but a crowded house, brimming with people's kids...who're running around unchecked...everyone getting smashed and shouting over each other.

YUK!

I always go when asked because I feel it's impolite not to...DH and I have a group of mates who just love a drink and a party but DH stopped drinking completely a year ago and I can hold about two before I start wobbling and feeling like I want to lie down!

It's never fun and I don't like seeing people's kids around that sort of thing.

Our DC were babysat by their Gran...I came home early...snuk out! I"m now in dressing gown and glad to be home!

It's been years since I did the whole NYE party thing. Nope. We're going out for an early dinner and a couple of drinks with friends, will be home before 8pm. PJs, couple of glasses of wine on sofa with the cats, watch a movie on tv. It'll be snowing here before midnight they tell us so we'll be snug and cosy inside watching it pile up as the New Year comes in.

I don't blame you OP. I never do much NYE. Today I've made party food for me and my son but made it about 12pm. As a child every New Year would be spent at my nans and me, brother, nan, grandad and her two older friends would stay up having a great time, eating food, singing songs and the whole Auld Langs Syne malarkey. I loved it so much, since she died (when I was 13) I've hated New Year and the years I have attempted to go out I've just got tearful thinking how I should have been spending it with my nan. Might seem ridiculous to some because she's been gone 20yrs but it was 'our' special time.

It's good to see how many people are staying in tonight, I'm feeling less boring now. New xmas pjs, bottle of champagne and nice picky bits for me and dp tonight. I'm actually really looking forward to a nice chilled night watching rubbish

WilburIsSomePig · 31/12/2016 17:34

I'm going to one tonight and I really can't be bothered. I want to stay in, eat shit and watch crap TV. But I'll go for my friend because she puts a lot of effort in to it and is lovely.

SoDownSoGone · 31/12/2016 17:36

Answers my thread! I don't think we'll go thanks!

This is my first evening out for NYE since 1999.

We are just going over to a friends for food and drinks. Very low key.

You couldn't pay me to go to a big party or to a pub on NYE.

Well I hope you all had a good night...whether in or out. Happy New Year :D

I am 40 and this is my first year staying in as an adult. Usually we are inScotland and my lovely inlaws babysit our children and we go out. We decided to stay in this year and I'm kind of wishing we had gone out. We stay in a lot throughout the year so this just feels like another Friday or Saturday so far! X

EveOnline2016 · 31/12/2016 20:59

NYE i love staying in with a few friends, get some ice nibbles in and play PC games.

My living room ATM is like an office 10 screens, 2 laptops and debating to bring another last top out.

We have major plans tonight. Some one is going to wake up to a crap new year.

2017 my corp will take over sov.

MiladyThesaurus · 31/12/2016 21:08

We've already been out and come home! We went to a carnival parade and fireworks display in the city centre, picked up a take away on the way home and are staying in.

The PILs are here (I had to prevent myself murdering FIL over an onion bhaji earlier - he definitely deserved it) and it'll be very quiet. DH appears to be hiding upstairs and I'm down here while they read in the living room. I have some champagne I'd like to open but it doesn't look like that'll be happening at the moment.

1cansee4miles · 31/12/2016 21:24

We are definitely not going out tonight! After a very busy couple of weeks I have spent all day in bed, with the rest of the family cooking, walking the dog, etc, and I'm still here now. Hoorah!!

Teddy1970 · 31/12/2016 21:26

You're not wrong OP, I've always disliked NYE. My local pub is charging an entrance fee for tonight, and what for? To be squashed in like sardines and not being able to have a conversation with people because the music is so blinking loud, and then if you can't walk home from the pub you have to take out a bank loan to get a cab home! My DH is overseas until next week, so it's just the children, the cats and the TV for company for me tonight...bliss!

Forgossake · 31/12/2016 21:42

Why will someone wake up to a crap new year, Eve?

EveOnline2016 · 31/12/2016 22:05

Because they will have lost their system, it's a game I play.

Been planning for months.

user1477282676 · 01/01/2017 09:50

What system? Confused

My new home.

It's a game I play in which it would take hours and hours to explain.

Juanbablo · 01/01/2017 11:57

I agree. I've never had a good New Year's Eve when I've gone out. Although this year has been shit as I'm ill but usually have a much nicer time at home than I do when we go out.
