To have a spiritual reading whilst pregnant??

So I know it's likely il be told how clairvoyants are con artists and peoples views on them & how they prey on vulnerable people.

With that being said, I went to one when I was around 18, all I was asked was what don't you want to be told?? My reply was "if anyone was dying or going to die", other than that he specifically asked me not to say anything when he spoke.

He told me about an embarrassing accident about my leg - this was true, it had happened a month earlier.

He told me my bf at the time (I didn't tell him I had one) wasn't going to be the person I'd spend my life with - we split a year later.

He also informed me that a younger girl whom I'm not very close to at the time would go down a difficult path - a good year later she did

Finally, he told me how I'd move away - I moved away for 5 years before coming back.

All the above weren't given time frames, it all took a good 5 years to happen.

Anyways! Now I've said that, I'm now 25 Weeks pregnant and if anyone knows me from previous threads, they'll know I'm going through a tough time....could I tell the medium as soon as I see them that I'm pregnant and want no info on it whatsoever!

There was a thread a while back about psychics and I did a total stab in the dark 'reading' based on far less information than you've given. No searching on a username.
Apparently it was very accurate. I have no psychic ability. Not a sausage.
On your first post I'd have said:
You have doubts and fears for the next year. You have a close female relative who has passed and she knows you can be strong like her. She will be supporting you. You have a photograph of her. Keep it close

Ellisandra · 31/12/2016 01:11

A match with me for all the things your "psychic" said.

If you're looking for a little hope and life in your life - look to the fact you have a life growing inside you now.

And take up the great suggestions made by PPs.

Don't waste your money, and don't swap your own resilience for reliance on others.

TrustySnail · 31/12/2016 01:13

HerodZackHunt

You're spot on - certainly true for me, and I'm not even the person you "read" for

Have you considered a career in fortune telling Wink?

FastWindow · 31/12/2016 01:16

flyingelbows has anyone lost a Mary?

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 31/12/2016 01:18

Don't forget "Wpuld once right in saying that a person has wronged you recently and you're mad about it?"

This could be a cheating husband or a driver cutting you up on the way there.

I honestly don't know why clairvoyants are allowed to legally practice. It's basically good story telling

HerodZackHunt · 31/12/2016 01:22

Trusty Grin Amazing isn't it? I did an alarmingly specific and accurate palm reading at a party. Freaked everyone out.
I'll keep it in mind if the day job and my conscience fails Wink

GilMartin · 31/12/2016 03:25

If he didn't give a time frame, but only said it had 'happened already' my first thought would be that you'd have to be quite lucky to reach the age of 18 without ever having injured a leg in one way or another.

The leg injury/scar on the knee is one of the classic 'barnum statements' mediums use.

Everyone has hurt or injured their leg (basically the entire lower half of the body) at some stage in childhood falling off a bike, tripping on the schoolyard, playing sport or when older falling over when drunk etc.

So what they gave you is stuff that happens to most people in childhood and young adulthood.

*Injuring yourself
*A family member having a hard time of it
*Splitting up with your first boyfriend/girlfriend.
*Moving out of the family home/ your hometown.

All of which hapened to me and I pretty much imagine everyone on this thread. Given that the psychic must have talked to you for at least 10/15 minutes, they must have made many, many more predictions that were wildly inaccurate.

Herod someone on a thread claiming to be a psychic a few months back tried to 'read' me. It was hilarious as they'd made what they thought was a vague statement. 'Sometimes you push yourself too hard at work. Remember there's more to life than work. Try to work smarter, not harder. You may benefit from talking to your colleagues (the blonde one and the brunette one?) Aside from the fact it actually says nothing with any genuine insight, I actually work from home and the only colleague I have is the cat.

MrsMattBomer · 31/12/2016 11:57

The best one I ever got was: "I can tell that a man very close to you died in his old age with something related to his chest"

Well considering I'm 46 and the biggest killer of most people is something related to the chest (cancer, heart disease, stroke, liver etc) it's very vague isn't it? Basically applies to everyone as there's not a single person in the world who doesn't know someone close to them who has died of a chest-related thing!

HerodZackHunt · 31/12/2016 12:08

Gil definitely not me! The blonde and brunette thing could apply to me. Except they're both men Grin
I think the science of cold reading is fascinating.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 31/12/2016 12:11

Wynter google "cold reading". Derren Brown uses cold reading techniques to show what psychic readings are actually all about. It's actually a very clever form of deception, kind of like a magic trick really. It also works on the premise that the person having the reading really wants to believe in psychic ability, and it's obvious you do. Sorry, OP.

HerodZackHunt · 31/12/2016 12:12

Gah. Well that was an example of something. I read your post. Was sure it said women. But it didn't. So it does apply. Well maybe it would if I did work too hard Grin

ShowMePotatoSalad · 31/12/2016 12:13

BTW I also had a leg injury...in fact I've had several leg injuries. Most people would have had some kind of injury to their leg. And if you desperately want to believe, even a minor scrape or bruise will fit the bill. I've got a huge bruise on my leg atm...have no idea how I got it. If the psychic had said to me "You've had a leg injury in the past month" he'd be right...and if I really, really wanted to believe he had psychic ability, I would be well and truly drawn in, and would think it was amazing.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 31/12/2016 12:18

Just to take your examples, OP, and how they could nicely slot in to someone else's life, ie mine. Sorry, I know this is not fun for you but it's a subject I'm very interested in so bear with me!)

1. He told me about an embarrassing accident about my leg - this was true, it had happened a month earlier.

As per PPs, most people have had some kind of leg injury. I have a huge bruise on my leg right now...quite embarrassing to look at and I don't know how I got it.

2. He told me my bf at the time (I didn't tell him I had one) wasn't going to be the person I'd spend my life with - we split a year later.

He could have said this to me about any of my boyfriends in the past. If he'd said it about current DH, maybe it would make me doubt the relationship, which could actually lead to problems and perhaps even a split...who knows. The power of suggestion is very...powerful.

3. He also informed me that a younger girl whom I'm not very close to at the time would go down a difficult path - a good year later she did

This is the most clever one. It's so fantastically vague you could read it in a horoscope. It isn't a psychic reading at all, but it looks like one. By saying it's someone you don't know very well, you could think of anybody. I could name about 20 young women who I am not very close to who are going down a difficult path, or who may do so in the future.

Blossomdeary · 31/12/2016 12:22

YANBU - assuming that you have money to burn.

LunaLoveg00d · 31/12/2016 13:24

In the last 5 years, I have also had an embarrassing injury with my leg (yay for just-about-crotch stitches), left my boyfriend, known (several) girls who have gone down difficult paths AND moved to Germany.

And that's just the bits the OP remembers - her mind will have edited out the dozens of other predictions which are a load of rubbish and totally inaccurate.

TrustySnail · 31/12/2016 13:45

I googled 'Cold Reading' as suggested upthread - there are some truly awful sites aimed at men, explaining how to use the same techniques to manipulate women into going on dates.

"I can tell you are a strong, independent woman who doesn't let others tell you what to do ..." and similar smarmy lines. Made me long to be in that situation and respond "No, actually, I'm a complete wimp who always follows the crowd," simply to have the satisfaction of derailing the script.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 31/12/2016 15:53

Trusty that doesn't surprise me - cold reading is essentially manipulation and it's sad but true that people will use that to get what they want from others.
