The breast is not considered fully mature until a woman gives birth and begins to produce milk (Love & Lindsey 1995).

And that breast tissue continues to grow until age 35.

Just read this on LLLI website.

And?

BrightOranges · 29/12/2016 21:56

And what? I was just doing some research and I didn't expect a woman's breast not to be fully mature until it produces milk.

That is all. Nothing else.

OP posts:
BrightOranges · 29/12/2016 21:58

Nor did I realise that breast tissue continues to grow for so long.

I wonder how many others know that fact.

Ducking hell, 35? Does that mean mine can get larger still, Angry

Hassled · 29/12/2016 22:00

Well I for one did not know that fact. What happens after the age of 35 - do the breasts inevitably start to shrink and droop, or was that just me?

ScarletForYa · 29/12/2016 22:02

That's mad, I've heard of women having reductions and new breast tissue growing back but I thought that was just a fluke of nature!

BrightOranges · 29/12/2016 22:04

Exactly! Who knows?

BrightOranges · 29/12/2016 22:05

Oh don't say that. I had a reduction and uplift a long time ago and mine are back to being huge again. It must be all that extra tissue growth!

OP posts:
BathshebaNewYearStone · 29/12/2016 22:06

That's a random fact to stun DS1 with!

BrightOranges · 29/12/2016 22:09

And does that mean breasts are immature prior to lactating? Smile

OP posts:
WhatLizzyDid · 29/12/2016 22:11

How come mine are shrinking then -despite the rest of me getting bigger- Wink

Fascinating OP

I nearly started a thread on here as my boobs have gone from a B to a D cup in a few months (I'm not pregnant), I thought that at 30 they'd stopped growing, but I guess this answers my question!

Haudyerwheesht · 29/12/2016 22:16

Isn't the breast tissue thing the reason why you don't get a mammogram usually until after 35? I've been referred twice to the breast clinic for lumps and given scans instead because I was 'too young'

BrightOranges · 29/12/2016 22:18

I feel a little naive not to know this. I'm over 35 so can't even blame it on being immature anymore. Evidently.

OP posts:
mummydawn07 · 29/12/2016 22:39

good lord I hope my breast don't continue to grow, they're bloody big enough as it is lol, I didn't know either of those facts so thank your for sharing OP! you learn something new everyday as the saying goes

Lilicat1013 · 29/12/2016 23:08

I can't produce milk so I will never be mature. That's interesting, although I definitely don't need them to grow any more, bras are expensive enough.

SawdustInMyHair · 29/12/2016 23:13

Well, that explains how I've gone up 2 cup sizes between 28 and 32!

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 29/12/2016 23:16

I think womens bodies pre-birth are "immature" not just their breasts.

So an octogenerian with a hip replacement and false kneecaps/teeth etc etc has an "immature" body?

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 29/12/2016 23:18

The bit about "immaturity" sounds like misogynistic bollocks to me, OP.

Much in the same vein as the Freudian theory that only "immature" women climaxed through stimulation of the clitorus.

God I hope mine grow a bit bigger ! Xmas Grin

DesolateWaist · 29/12/2016 23:26

Well I've been pregnant but never given birth. Am I stuck in between worlds?

Birdsgottafly · 29/12/2016 23:26

I was recalled for a scan after a mammogram and the result was that I had thickening of the breast tissue, which i was told is normal after the Menopause.

Apparently, they don't stop changing. I've had a few issues, none serious, but it means I've had chats with the other Women and leaking/thickening/lumps/size/shape can be ongoing at any age.

I don't agree with the term "immaturity", it's just that very little was known about the female body and research was very much gendered.
