AIBU to serve DD left over turkey for every meal till it's all gone?

I did it Nigella's way (brined, and then roasted for a comparatively short time) so at least it's not a ridiculously sawdusty and dry turkey, but it's still a flipping turkey and I've just lost the will to live while stripping the carcase. In fact I've given up half way and come to post on here instead.

DD was the one who wanted turkey: DH and I wanted goose, and MIL would have gone for duck. I know I am BVU, but I want to serve up this wretched bird for every single meal until DD begs never to see another turkey again! (Of course this may backfire on me: if the turkey onslaught doesn't put her off, she may be disgusted at the lack of leftovers from duck or goose next year.)

If I am BU, what do I do with all this sodding turkey?

Hmm, I feel a turkey curry buffet coming on.

I now have an image in my brain of a feast at which each person gets a whole goose. Shades of Asterix...

we had 2 geese for 10 today. no leftovers and the best roasties ever (baked in the tray under the birds on a rack)

I did turkey this year, thinking that if I bought a nice one, it might be really nice. We usually have duck.

And it was a nice turkey, not dry, lovely meat. And the whole time I kept thinking how it wasn't nearly as nice as a duck Sad

We have enough leftovers to feed an army in the freezer SadSad

Turkey risotto with lemon zest and fresh herbs
Turkey wraps with spicy Mexican sauce
Turkey in madras curry sauce
Cold turkey with salad
Turkey and mushroom pie

Lonny, you're not the only one. Though the gin lives in the freezer and I can't say I ever get tired of that Blush.

Turkey risotto sounds a plan: we have loads of lemons.

We had a stuffed boned duck and a small turkey (for seven), with the ham there's cold meat for 8 tomorrow with roasties, green salad, tomato salad, good bread, anti-pasti and pickles and enough for turkey and ham pie on 27th (might have to pad it out with some chicken breasts). What's not to like?

Ours was fairly moist (for turkey) breast. I said to dh not to get a big one because only he likes turkey leftovers (this was one of three tasks he had to prepare before Christmas). He got a serves 8 min (3 adults, 3 dc). He is just about to discover that the dc and I decided that we would leave him to enjoy the leftovers as we tuck into homemade sushi Grin.

For a 6yr old I wouldn't be as harsh but maybe freeze some and have it spread over a week or two.

I grew up in a large family and am always amused by leftover turkey discussions. Never seen any!

Freeze in zip locks. Then make stock with the carcass.
If you can't be arsed doing stock now, freeze carcass ( in several bags if necessary) and make it another day.

But we weren't very well off so there was no fancy breakfast on Xmas Day and I doubt my parents bought the largest bird available!
But it was still a full bird.
I expect birds were smaller in the 70s Xmas Grin
No MN Mythical Chicken in our house!

Also left over chick or turkey is surprisingly tasty with a cheese sauce . Serve with pasta or pots. Even better with the ham mixed in and some frozen peas

Freeze it in manageable batches. Every time you make soup, risotto, a pie or want cold meat, it's there.

We portion outs out and freeze it for use later we may have previously bought frozen turkey when they were on clearance and done the same thing too

Geese are bigger than turkeys when it comes to getting them into the oven (voice of bitter experience here - I got to my mother's house one year and discovered that the goose I'd bought was too long for her oven), but much, much smaller in terms of actual usable meat. I wouldn't try to stretch a goose to feed more than 6 adults. This sodding turkey would comfortably have fed 12 a reasonable portion each, and it's quite a small one.

Ellisandra, we're not a MN Chicken house either, which I think is why I'm so taken aback by this sodding turkey (at the risk of becoming monotonous...).

Chicken is a good idea (even better Goosnargh chicken). Wonder if you can still get capon? We used to have it at Christmas when I was a child.

It sure why you're getting grief over letting Dd have a say. We've always let Dd have a choice in the Christmas meal. She's eating it as much as anyone else. Dh and Dd take it in turns to choose. I don't eat meat so give them the choice though insist it's minimal cooking intervention as I do tend to do the cooking.

We had capon a couple of years ago. It was very nice indeed. I would have had it this year but DP found it a bit gamey tasting. DS wanted turkey so I made an Executive Decision as Head Chef and went with the Goosenargh chicken. It was amazing. Well, still will be a hope. I'm feeling a Christmas night sandwich coming on later.

Hulababy, me neither - hence wishing I'd put "lighthearted" in the title. I wouldn't have agreed if the rest of us hadn't been perfectly willing to eat turkey!
