She's 87 and physically very frail indeed so lives in a nursing home. Mentally very sharp and knows precisely where each of her possessions is.

Yesterday evening I went to get her stuff ready for today. After choosing her clothes she asked me to get out her favourite antique silver necklace. It's gone. Her jewellery wrap is empty, including her wedding ring. Tucked safely in a drawer, mint can, I fear only be a member of staff. Several nice, months massively valuable bits stolen.

Just who the fuck does something like that? So very upset for her. Have reported to staff and I guess the Police will be informed ( by us). Just had to get it off my sad chest. Sad

Oh that's awful Sad how people can do such horrid things is beyond me.

Hopefully good old karma will make sure they get their comeuppance. Poor MIL, sending positive thoughts & virtual Flowers. Maybe the fucking bastard thief will have a change of heart & return them.

I used to work in a nursing home & my first thought was that someone had noticed the jewellery and moved it to the safe or a locked drawer in the Manager's office for safe keeping.

In terms of people having access to the room - well anyone who works there would. Cleaners, Carers, Nurses, clerical staff. In the sad event that somebody has stolen her things I wouldn't assume it to be a poorly paid Carer. The most devious person I ever came across working in care was a trained Nurse - quite a senior one at that!

That said, I do sincerely hope it's just been moved for safe keeping. I'm not sure why that wouldn't be mentioned to next of kin though.

MatildaTheCat · 25/12/2016 21:43

No, I absolutely agree it could be any member of staff at all. It's vanishingly unlikely to have been moved to a safe since they are totally UN proactive and also as I say, mil is totally on the ball and would have known.

I just know it's theft due to the way her jewellery roll was rolled and tied up with a knot. Quite tempted to put in a webcam.

The awful thing is that nearly everyone is very nice, if understaffed and underpaid ( it's fucking expensive) and it's a horrid feeling to be cared for by a team with one snake in the place. Could be anyone and that's the thing...who? Will be taking up as soon as senior management team back.

Thanks to you all for your support. Other stories are horrifying. Who are these scum??

When I worked at said home I always thought one of those fake books that had a locked box inside would have been safest should they really want to keep valuable belongings with them. But as it sounds they've had time to have a good root around so maybe wouldn't work.

How awful :(
