To have kicked the cat out on Xmas eve?

For the last two weeks she has been trying to kill the tree and wee on the presents under the tree.
I just want an upright tree and no bin bags under the tree.
Is this too much to ask?
The cat does have a safe place to sleep out of the weather.

Merry Xmas!

Well it's never been the norm for me, but we are all different.

tigerdriverII · 25/12/2016 00:10

Crikey. Our cats spend every night out (they do have a dry shelter and a kennel with a fleecy liner). I spose this is AIBU though!

MyWhatICallNameChange · 25/12/2016 00:13

My cat goes in the shed, or either neighbours sheds. We don't have very secure sheds here! Although sometimes I call him and he doesn't come running, so he obviously goes further afield. Off on a jolly somewhere I expect.

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2016 00:13

I think if they have somewhere they can stay out of the weather, and some water that's not too bad. they might be more inclined to bed down for the night than go off for an adventure.

Salmotrutta · 25/12/2016 00:14

Yep MyWhatIcall - my cats would just not countenance staying in at night. They were feral rescue cats and its in their blood to be out and about.
Most cats would be like this under normal circumstances actually - so sad that some of them are too traumatised by past events to want to go out Sad

kali110 · 25/12/2016 03:05

Sparklingbrook no me neither. Ours used to go for a bit but then were back in.
We don't let our remaining ones out now Sad
I know mil's 'visitor' certainly isn't happy being an outside cat Grin

KookSpook · 25/12/2016 03:54

Mines asleep next to the tree. Shes 9 & its her first Xmas with us,

She has 2 presents to open Xmas Blush

DonutParade · 25/12/2016 06:50

I'm with zukie, our cats are family. I apologise to mine if I have to move them off the bed to get into it. YABU.

Ipigglemustdie · 25/12/2016 07:11

Ffs crazy cat ladies out in force. It's a cat, they like going outside, it's not going sit at there crying and begging to get back in. It's gonna find somewhere warm or run around hunting/shagging Yanbu

AwaywiththePixies27 · 25/12/2016 07:29

Does the cat usually go out at night OP? And how bad is the storm where you are? I'm town because my sister had a cat who's religiously go out at the same time every night and come back at the same every morning. My poor neighbours cat on the other hand is kicked out and all times of the day and night and often tries to make a break for it into my house just so it can dry off. It stood miaowing on their front door step at 6am one morning absolutely soaked to the bone when I was putting the bin out. It was belting it down and the minute I opened my front door it made a run for my house just for some warmth. Sad

AwaywiththePixies27 · 25/12/2016 07:30

*torn not town

saoirse31 · 25/12/2016 07:51

Its a cat, surely it goes out every night and comes back happy every morning having killed a mouse or bird ...far better for it surely than being kept captive indoors unnaturally

Mouseinahole · 25/12/2016 08:41

Christmas morning in the mouse hole!

To have kicked the cat out on Xmas eve?
Fluffycloudland77 · 25/12/2016 09:32

For safety cats ought to be in, statistically more likely to be hit by a car & of course the M25 cat killer will spark copy cat killings.

Ours is always in overnight.

FuzzyCustard · 25/12/2016 09:34

YABU. Our two cats have a cat flap and can come and go as they please. But both of them always choose to come in at night.

It does sound horrid that you care more for your presents (that don't have to be under the tree, leave them in a cupboard or something) that your living., breathing pets.

mouse that is a gorgeous picture!

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2016 10:04

Being asleep all night in its bed is hardly being held captive is it? Confused

YY crazy cat ladies wanting our cats to be safe and warm overnight. Hmm As for shagging? I think not.

SaucyJack · 25/12/2016 10:33

SaucyCat sleeps in the crook of my knees every night, and won't go outside because she doesn't like seagulls.

She doesn't seem too upset with living an unnatural life in captivity.

bluetongue · 25/12/2016 10:39

Mouse it appears that one of your cats has managed to steal all the kitty pressies from the other two.

cardibach · 25/12/2016 10:42

I don't put my cats anywhere - they make their own decisions and use the cat flap. Left to themselves they sleep in all day and go out all night. If it's unusual for your cat, though, OP it might not have been the best decision. I hope both cat and presents are well this morning!

Chrissiecat · 25/12/2016 10:44

Love your picture, gorgeous cats! Xmas Smile

lottieandmia · 25/12/2016 10:45

My cats are house cats. I never understand why people have animals and then don't want to take care of them properly Angry

SuperFlyHigh · 25/12/2016 11:01

IPiggle all cats are different, mine loves going out all day and fighting generally but is quite happy to come in in winter at 4pm onwards and be locked in and sleep on my bed in the warm (he loves the warmth and softness of the mohair throw and fleece blankets).

Compare that to his 2 female friends Lola and Lily who live in the street behind us, are very friendly but have no cat flap, are rarely let in and you often see them at night wandering about when it's obvious they'd love to be by a warm fireside romantic notion.

Ps I'm near where the Croydon Cat killer was too so though I'm pleased he's not made it up past M25 into Scotland there was talk I think he'd got to Milton Keynes or Coventry I think. Mad person.

MissVictoria · 25/12/2016 11:49

Poor kitty! We had a cat when i was 3 through 18, she'd grab baubles off the bottom branches so we got wooden ones for the bottom rung she could safely play with. She never attacked presents either, used to sit right by me at dinner for the prawns and turkey as i was the softest target! She absolutely hated going outside. She was my mums shadow, she'd venture in the back yard whilst she was putting washing out, or sit out with her if she had a bit of an hours book read in the summer, but would practically crap herself if someone in the kitchen went near the back door for fear of getting shut out. She got accidentally locked out once after mum ran out quite late at night to bring the washing in as it started raining. Didn't realise due to the rain the cat had followed her out. Was almost an hour later, only one still awake, that i eventually heard her frantic howling at the back door. She wouldn't go find shelter, she would stand at the door getting drenched scratching and howling desperate to get back in, poor old girl.

kali110 · 25/12/2016 15:27

ipiggle yes crazycat lady for taking care of our pets properly?
Sticking the cat outside as it's pissed you off is not good.
No, not all cats go outside at night.
Mine would go out for a bit then be back in all night. They certainly did not want yo be outside overnight.
Not all cats like being dumped outside at night, as my mil well knows by her nightly ( and day if the weather is bad) visitor.

Chrissiecat · 25/12/2016 16:50

My Aunt's cat got out one night and was taken by a fox, she heard it happen but coudn't get to him. I never let my cat out at night. She is on the bed with me at night, cosy and safe.
