Just sat down to wrap Christmas presents and start prep for Christmas Dinner. Poured myself a glass of red and cracked open a chocolate orange. What the hell has happened to it???? The segments are tiny and appeared to have been slightly hollowed. The flavour appears to have been mondelez'd Sad

Is nothing scared anymore??????

I haven't had one in years.....

Now I am really gutted I never took my chance at a final decent one last year 😢

lemondropcake · 24/12/2016 20:21

I melted one to go in a cheesecake like I have done for the past two years and the chocolate wasn't the same at all. I did wonder. I had to use different chocolate and add orange extract. At least now I know!

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 24/12/2016 20:21

That's why they're 99p in Lidl because they're crap now! 😡

kraft mondelez version is now greasy and sticky.

I hear Irene Rosenfeld. who masterminded the scheme (and broke her promise not to close the factory) made nothing for shareholders, employees or customers, but pocketed vast bonuses and is now luxuriating in an even higher-paid job. Her remuneration rose by 50 per cent in 2014, to $21m.

BTW Cadbury's and the others used to declare substantial UK profits, and contribute in taxes. The new lot? Not.

"A Parliamentary select committee later found the company had acted both irresponsibly and unwisely in making its original statement.

"The select committee made repeated requests for Kraft Chief Exec Irene Rosenfeld to attend a Parliamentary hearing to discuss Kraft's behaviour, she refused to attend."

Since 2011, the company has cut an estimated 1,000 UK jobs in total.

Aldi chocolate is much better.

No "Cadbury" or chocolate oranges in this house.

MrsC2810 · 24/12/2016 20:36

They are horrible now. I don't eat cadburys at all now. I prefer lindt or Prestat if feeling flush.

Yoksha · 24/12/2016 20:52

I'm going to boycott this crap.

RortyCrankle · 24/12/2016 22:00

Yup, fucked up along with every other British chocolate taken over by Mondelez.

But hey its not all bad - MNHQ were paid a six figure sum to advertise cadburys resulting in Chocolate which I now use as a substitute for shit.

Boycot - hit them where it hurts. Watch the piles of inedible chocolate pile higher and higher in Poundworld.

And don't forget, every time they appear in MNHQ Insight with a product test - let them know exactly what you think of their shit.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 24/12/2016 22:08

This makes me want to cry, actual real tears with snot and everything

TaggieRR · 24/12/2016 22:12

But true that Aldi chocolate is lovely!!

Passthecake30 · 24/12/2016 22:12

Mine tasted fine, I'm obviously not very particular so long as it's chocolate!

wherethefuckisthefuckingtuna · 24/12/2016 22:16

I noticed this a month or so ago when I delightedly cracked open my first one of the season.

It was also my last one of the season AngrySad

Recentlylazy · 24/12/2016 22:21

Thank god for this thread. Thought my taste buds had gone. Foul, oily and very artificial taste. My dad has some old ones (don't ask he has 24) might try taste test, new oily v old but proper.

notyounanbread · 24/12/2016 22:39

I had 2 just to make sure and they ARE horrible. I've had one for Christmas every year for as long as I can remember but I specifically asked not to receive one this year.

HarryPottersMagicWand · 24/12/2016 22:46

NOOOOOO! DH got 2 emergency ones earlier as I realised I was without my annual chocolate orange, with that and 'quality' street I may as well cancel Christmas along with easter after the abomination that is now creme eggs and mini eggs.

GladAllOver · 24/12/2016 22:49

Just another victim of the disgusting Kraft/Mondelez takeover.
They now stuff environmentally destructive palm oil into their wretched imitation chocolate, which leaves an oily aftertaste.
And Mumsnet takes money from them for their promotion campaigns Angry

Aldi chocolate has no palm oil, much more cocoa content, is delicious, and cheaper!

Usernamegone · 24/12/2016 22:49

Does anyone know if any one the 'old' ones still exist anywhere. My defective ones were from Tesco.

pklme · 24/12/2016 22:53

It's not right in the mouth. It doesn't feel to big to eat a whole slice any more...

Twogoats · 24/12/2016 22:57

I'm vegan, and this is the one thing I usually miss! I guess not anymore! Xmas Sad

HopeClearwater · 25/12/2016 00:18

House was full of chocolate (am a teacher and get presents from my lovely pupils & their parents) but the Roses and Heroes are sitting around uneaten because they've been palm oiled into disgustingness. Sad to hear the chocolate oranges have gone the same way.

Usernamegone · 25/12/2016 00:29

Another one of life's simple pleasure is gone Sad

Klaphat · 25/12/2016 00:38

I thought the chocolate orange I got for Christmas this year tasted fine actually, but did notice the shape change. However I also got a multi-pack including a Yorkie, and by Jesus that was inedible. I actually had to give it to DH mid-binge, so wrong did it feel and taste. Just something really nasty about the flavour and texture.

Graphista · 25/12/2016 01:28

According to wiki Irene not exactly popular in USA either!

Surely they're losing money over this? With so many refusing to buy for taste/quality and ethical reasons (I've seen a lot about the Cadbury/Kraft/mondelez situation elsewhere online too) it CANNOT be good business practice!

Who's the uk rep? Irene is American and presumably can't be compelled to deal with our laws and government but SOMEBODY must be uk based and accountable surely?

Eevee77 · 25/12/2016 01:30

I LOVED them. But they're greasy and sickly now. Such a shane

badg3r · 25/12/2016 01:54

I discovered this a few months ago. I can't eat them the way I used to (nibbling down into the segment) because they're too sad and skinny now, so it has TOTALLY ruined it for me. Bah humbug. I have one that's been in the house for a month and I've not even bothered to eat it yet. That is the level of apathy I feel for them now.
