This afternoon we had 2 jehovah's witnesses knock on our door and my DH answered and they began preaching about the fact that they were spreading the word that Jesus didn't exist. My DD who is 5 attends a church school so started preaching back to them that Jesus is the reason for Christmas. DD was giving quite a compelling argument. The couple looked quite keen to leave!

Yes Canada! We're lucky to have Jewish friends and Muslim family so no worries there! She's been to a few Hanukkah celebrations and we're having a play date with her Muslim friend next week. She knows they do Eid not Christmas but that doesn't entail talking about God, just food and culture!

I can only speakl for myself, but I certainly don't try and influence my children on religion, I tell them that I believe xyz, other people other things and explain those, and then tell them its up to them what they believe. My daughters both believe in God in a vague way, my son is very much the type to only believe what he can see/feels is logical and doesn't believe in anything. Its not up to me to tell them what they think.

I don't agree that parents always impose their beliefs on their children.

I went to a Catholic school but as I got older I started to not believe. I was terrified of my mum finding out I didn't believe in God. One day I 'confessed' and turns out she didn't either. I was only at Catholic school because that's were all the kids in my area went, including loads of kids from different religions. I genuinely had no idea of her or my dads religious views until I had made up my own mind.

As an atheist in a country with proper separation of church and state

About time we got round to this in the UK!

Ours come on Xmas day. We don't have our Xmas on Xmas day so it's no issue for us and we invite them in. Wthey always look very pleased (I expect most tell them to fuck off). We get the tea and biscuits flowing and then spend hours updating them with the top stories from the New Scientist while they try desperately to escape. Grin
