to order a take away on xmas day?

I've had a horrendous year and not feeling festive at all. I'm a single mother to a one year old so will wake up alone with my mum coming round later. I've not got a tree or any decorations and quickly bought some presents in my lunch hour yesterday.

AIBU to just get a take away for xmas dinner?

I'm in London so assume some places will be open.

Well as you've got no Christmas food shopping in and time to do it now then I suppose YANBU but it wouldn't be my idea of a Christmas Day. Why didn't you just go home to your mum's instead?

But are you quite close to central? I'm in an outer zone and literally nowhere is open. I came home on 27th last year and went straight to the chippie, even they were closed. They are Muslim but they clearly feel there's no business to be had, well I guess it's true.

Would you be able to pick up a tree today and some cheap lights and decs. Everything will be reduced . At one dc often prefer the lights etc to the presents.

I would also try and get a little tree today and something to make a nice meal that you and your little one would enjoy, doesn't have to be a traditional dinner.

Each to their own though, do what you'd prefer. Hope you have a better new year.

I'd check places are open first before relying on getting on. But no, yanbu, if that's what you want to do, do it. Enjoy :)

OP. You can do whatever you like. It's just another day. Don't feel pressured by everyone's expectations for Christmas. If you want a take away, have a take away.

We're having take away curry tomorrow but we're ordering it tonight. Its always better the next day anyway. Depends on what you want.

Plus Christmas trees are reduced in a lot of places if you want one.

I'd nip to a supermarket today and buy some nice easy food or ready meals. I wouldn't take a chance on a take away being open tomorrow.

Of course you can. I would be afraid of nowhere being open though. If possible, try to get something fairly handy to cook, for tomorrow. It doesn't have to be any particular meal, just something that you and your mum like.

I hope that next year will be a better year for you.

I would have something in, just incase you cannot find a takaway open but do what you feel is right for you.

We're a two parent family to a 4 year old and haven't had Xmas dinner since he was born as we think it takes too much time out of a rare day together, so I'm pretty sure I wouldn't bother if I was on my own with a baby. If you aren't religious then I think the best way to view Christmas is as a day to do whatever you please - if that's a takeaway then fine!

We're getting a curry tomorrow but as they're busy we're going to order it today and pick up tomorrow. Can you ring around a few places and see where's open?

YANBU. The baby is too small to know or care, so what matters is how you feel and cope. Sounds like a really good idea, taking pressure off yourself at a time when you're feeling low. Once DC is older you'll have to make the effort, but right now you don't. Enjoy the takeaway. And I hope next year's better for you.

YANBU, but I would probably get a ready meal in as standby, if you go this afternoon there will probably be some good reductions.

Thank you for your replies. I see we have some experienced xmas day take away eaters pre-ordering today. Hadn't thought of that.

My mum lives in a one bedroom flat over two hours away and I don't drive so can't really go up there.

Toying with the idea of a small tree

I couldn't be bothered with waiting and finding takeaway tomorrow. So would pop to supermarket today and just get some nice easy food. Some nice cheese, bread, mulled wine. Can give 1 year old some bread and cheese also.

YANBU but It might be hard to find somewhere open, ring up and check today. If they aren't open then the shops aren't too bad today most people did their food shopping yesterday. You can buy Christmas dinner ready made all you need to do is put it in the oven. I hope you have a nice time your daughter and mum.

Yanbu Christmas is for doing nice things, you want takeaway, it doesn't hurt anyone, why not?

I would definitely make sure the place you want is open tomorrow though, give them a call and check. If not then I suggest some nice easy bits from supermarket, something you wouldn't splurge on normally like a finest ready meal and posh dessert
