I've had a horrendous year and not feeling festive at all. I'm a single mother to a one year old so will wake up alone with my mum coming round later. I've not got a tree or any decorations and quickly bought some presents in my lunch hour yesterday.

AIBU to just get a take away for xmas dinner?

I'm in London so assume some places will be open.

This is your family now and you can start making your own traditions that will become your DS's happy Christmas memories of being safe and happy with his wonderful mum. Go to M&S and buy treats (I can remember a very happy solo Christmas lunch that included Wotsits, Cava and a beetroot salad but that could just be me!). And definitely get some fairy lights even if you don't have a tree. Just draped around windows or the mantelpiece they make everything magical and little ones love them.

OP get in some nice treats and relax with your dc and enjoy your time together. I hope you have a lovely day.

Do what you want as long as you and baby are happy! 1 year old even a 2 year old won't know any different. As long as you have a few pressies and put on the xmas tunes.

haveacupoftea · 24/12/2016 14:25

I didnt have a tree up either but i got a reduced one for £10 in Argos, put it up yesterday and now i'm glad i did. Thats just me though, its really just one day.

spooniestudent · 24/12/2016 14:28

Of course yanbu, but I would double check that they'll be somewhere open, and maybe get some good in/ order something that can be reheated tonight just in case

MammyNeedsASpaDay · 24/12/2016 15:40

No, you aren't!!

Do whatever feels right for you and would make a nice day for all of you.

Merry Xmas xxxxx

DollyPlastic · 24/12/2016 15:44

Pop down to the M&S and get some bargains, loads of reductions this sort of time on Christmas eve.

headinhands · 24/12/2016 15:45

Do you have a local FB page for your area. Ask in there what's open. Our local mini mart is open for a couple of hours on xmas day and we're off the beaten track.

Binkybix · 24/12/2016 19:06

marmalade you have made me feel rightly ashamed for feeling sorry for myself on the sofa with flu.

You have done amazingly to get away, you will continue to do amazingly. Please yourself!

Marmalade85 · 24/12/2016 20:14

Thanks everyone for your kind wishes Flowers life is going to be hard for the short term but hopefully will have a long term gain.

Happy Christmas to everyone and enjoy your lunch, whatever that may be.
