I get married next year. I have to go on a diet. I'm horrible. Obviously I'm getting pretty stuck in now and will start afresh in January.

I have 10 months would like to lose 2 stone. Is this doable? I'm currently 12 and a half stone. Yes I'm disgusting and horrible and I feel awful about myself. Would like to drop a dress size more importantly than lose weight.

Please tell me best plans that you have followed and have worked.
Thank you !

My fitness pal and fitness DVDs to do at home was how I've always lost weight.

30 day shred is great but can get a bit boring so I also so Davina DVDs too.

ollieplimsoles · 23/12/2016 20:56

I highly recommend paul McKenna.

The system makes you not only loose weight, but treats your discomfort around food and your low self esteem

AnnieAnoniMouse · 23/12/2016 20:58

Go over to the weightloss section, find low carbing, BIWI & the Bootcamp threads. Have a look to see when the next one starts (early Jan) and mark it on the calendar. After Christmas go and read the beginnng and end of the last one and join in the continually running chat thread so you are ready to start on the start date (there are a few things you can do to make the start easier).

You'll lose the weigh, find your self esteem, eat well & not be hungry. You can do it.

Until then, work on being kind to yourself & enjoy Christmas.

TheSlaughterOfHerodificado · 23/12/2016 20:59

Oh - and if you like/want exercise programmes, I found Joanna Hall's CDs very good. They have short sessions that you can put together into a long one if you like, and you don't need a lot of room or specialist equipment (Rosemary Coley is great, but you need a church hall to do them in)

best of luck - I bet you look fab on the day.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 23/12/2016 21:00

I tried Paul McKenna - it didn't work for me. I thought it was going to be fab and wanted it to work, but I just found it too stressful and massively impractical.

BrightonBelleCat · 23/12/2016 21:02

Thank you Cardi I've missed Laura. I was running all the time and then fractured my ankle and stopped. Had got up to week six or something.

Unfortunately no budget for a personal trainer.

Slimming World

LovingLola · 23/12/2016 21:04

Can you start today? Make a conscious effort not to overeat or overdrink over the next week. Pick healthy options and don't have seconds.

Kirriemuir · 23/12/2016 21:11

Lovinglola.....hahahahahahahaha! That's like saying no chocolate at Easter.

harderandharder2breathe · 23/12/2016 21:12

Two stone in ten months is extremely doable

I agree with PP that your language about yourself is sad Xmas Sad I would suggest something with a group so you can get support from people who understand what you're going through.

When I'm being horrible to myself I try to pull back and think "I'd never say that to someone else" and try to treat myself more like I'd treat my friends.

BrightonBelleCat · 23/12/2016 21:14

Lola I had a Chinese tonight. Sorry a bit late but I will watch myself after Christmas Day (a little bit).

Is your ankle up to walking? I started doing 10,000 steps a day in October, have made no other changes to my lifestyle and have lost 3lb without even trying (or so it feels!). It's really inspired me to crack on with it! Maybe that would be a good start? 2 stone in 10 months is totally doable. And stop being so down on yourself! Being slightly above your target weight doesn't make you either disgusting or horrible.

LuluJakey1 · 23/12/2016 21:21

I lost over 2 1/2 stone after having DS just by eating sensibly 1500- 1700 calories, low carb but not no carb, no alcohol and lots of walking. I did it quite quickly - wasn't breast feeding either. Never went to a gym or a class just walked lots with DS in his pram.

BrightonBelleCat · 23/12/2016 21:22

Ankle definitely better been better for months but just been putting off starting again !

You are not disgusting at 12.5 stone! Slimming world, paleo and running :)

secretsignal · 23/12/2016 21:26

I found Paul McKenna helpful, have lost steadily (2lb per week) I know it's not for everyone, but it has helped me stop eating when I'm stressed or sad and you don't have to cut anything out so don't feel deprived. I didn't really think it would work, but it has.

WashBasketsAreUs · 23/12/2016 21:27

I have never had weight issues until the menopause, then it started going on so gradually I didn't notice until my trousers got too tight and I had to buy the next size up (never worn that size EVER!)

It's no good going on a diet and thinking I'd not eat biscuits, chocolate or crisps; the more you mentally ban things the more you want them! I started my 'not on a diet' diet, and I've lost 1 stone 4 pounds.

Instead of 2 biscuits, have one. Not a whole section of a chocolate bar, just two squares. One less potato. One bit less of cream on your pudding. However, if you fancy a treat, have one, just not lots of them. I did this, plus I had one day a week when I only ate fruit. It really worked for me, and I'm a big eater. If I'm on holiday or it's a special occasion (like Christmas) I don't worry about it, just get back on it later.

You can do it, good luck x

katseyes7 · 23/12/2016 21:29

How tall are you, BrightonBelleCat? l'm about 12 stone and 5'2". Two stone is totally doable in that time. l've had a lot of success in the past with Slimming World, and also with the Heart Foundation Diet which l was given by a health trainer at my GPs surgery, and that has the bonus that it's free to do, and you get one to one or group consultations, whichever you prefer. l lost a stone and a half on that very easily earlier in the year, but l've recently had a hip replacement and being stuck in the house and not able to do a lot of exercise before my surgery means l've put some of it back on (ok, Cadbury's hasn't helped!).
l also agree with the ladies who have said that the language you used to describe how you feel about yourself isn't helping. Years ago when l was 8 stone 3 and a size 10, l was going to a slimming club because l wanted to be 7 1/2 stone, which is just ridiculous.
Four stone and four decades on, l don't feel that way. Yes, l could do with losing a couple of stone, but just now l'm happy to be healthier and not in pain, and l will shift it. lt's just taking time after my surgery.
Get Christmas and New Year out of the way, enjoy the holiday, and take the very good advice from the ladies. Find a plan/group/gym/trainer that suits you, don't beat yourself up, and look forward to your wedding day. You've got loads of time, and if you feel like you're doing something positive, that will help your mindset massively. Endorphins from exercise will, too, you don't have to train for a marathon, l lost two and a half stone and the only exercise l did was playing tennis on my Wii!
Enjoy your planning and your wedding day. You will be a beautiful bride x

Onlyonce · 23/12/2016 21:31

To be honest (and I say this as someone who is also prone to stress eating myself) I would think about how to change your mindset before changing your body. That's why ended up starting counselling about 18 months ago, it's a long road though and has led me to deal with 'stuff' from the past which is good for me in the long run. It's a longer term thing though. One thing that might help is when you are about to grab something to eat due to stress try and pause and think about what it is making you do it. Acknowledge the feeling and do something kind for yourself rather than eating, even it's just taking a few deep breaths, or making a cup of tea.

PacificDogwod · 23/12/2016 21:36

Losing weight is at least 80% what you eat, only 20ish% exercise.
Fitness, the other way round.

I'd second (?or third) LCHF and DietDoctor.com - have a look.
Very interesting and motivating.

2st in 6 months? Totally doable.

Be kind to yourself.
Your wedding day is just a day - concentrate on the fact you are expected to spend the rest of your life with yer man... Grin

OliviaBensonOnAGoodDay · 23/12/2016 21:39

I'm exactly the same as you - getting married in October and want to lose 2 stone. I go to the gym anyway, but I'm going to up the number of sessions, not eat any rubbish after Christmas, and cut carbs for three months before the wedding.

We shall see!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 23/12/2016 21:41

I've tried a few things over the last few years. Low-carb worked really well. The Blood Sugar Diet is really fast (not necessarily what you want, though).

I've learned that maintenance is where I fuck up every time. Have a look at the No S Diet when you're at your goal weight. You can lose weight on it but it is slooooow, so I wouldn't advise it for your initial weight loss. However, it's what I'm planning to do pretty much for life. You eat 3 meals a day - anything you like, but it has to fit on one plate. No snacks, seconds or sweets (including fizzy drinks), except on days that start with an S. So 3 meals a day during the week, eat what you like at weekends. I really like it - simple and not restrictive! I need some structure to the old rule of "eat what you like, in moderation". I can't do moderation without some guidelines.

Good luck! I'm trying to lose 2 stone by the middle of May - 10 months is plenty!

Can you afford to get yourself a kettlebell and exercise mat for home. Then on the days you have done nothing else exercise wise look at a YouTube kettlebells class. Weight/resistance is great for upping your muscles (but not in a bulky way) and will up you metabolism.

And YYYYY to MFP - so that you do not end up eating twice the amount of calories you have just burnt off each time you exercise.

I have lost a stone in 3 months. Exercising 5 days a week (but only 20-30 mins each day) and watching what I eat.

clary · 23/12/2016 21:55

5:2. Started it about three years ago and went from 11stone 4 to 9stone 13 in about two months.

Have stayed pretty much there too, now weigh about 10st 2 on my better days but still much slimmer than before. Keeping it off like this is a massive achievement for me.

Combined the food with exercise every day - I run and swim but you should do whatever you enjoy and can easily fit into your life - that way you'll keep it up :) good luck.

By the way I am sure you are not disgusting.
