AIBU to feel my Christmas tree is making my house look tacky?

Ok so usually I don't mind putting up the Christmas tree, normally do it on Christmas Eve as it really stresses me out and it's down on New Year's Day but this year due to DD not feeling great we've put it up a whole week early, I just feel like it's taken over my newly decorated room! To add to it I've just found out from someone else that family are coming round to ours (this particular person hasn't told me, I think it's meant to be a surprise) on Boxing Day. I just feel like with the tree my room looks really tacky and cluttered, I do have slight OCD alongside my anxiety but I just hate having a bloody huge tree in the room, I couldn't have a smaller one as DH and DC wanted a large one (I was outvoted) and to add insult to injury it's a snow tipped tree so there's white s*t everywhere!! I think I just needed a rant and maybe a "get in the Christmas spirit you grumpy b**h" lol Xmas Sad

Stealth boast.

Awww thank you so much for your kind comments, I think it's just going to get some getting used (at least until the 1st). I just feel it's huge, I might try and persuade DH to get a white pencil thin one next year, he wasn't for budging this year and he had DC on his side. I guess I should be grateful that it's not a real one the needles would have drove me round the bend.

No not really wellitwouldbenice, I did all my worrying about the surprise guest earlier and then realised that not only is that happening I've got something in my living room that looks really out of place Xmas Grin.

GoodMythicalMorning that is gorgeous, is it real? It looks really full and love the ribbon Xmas Wink

Proudmum here.

You can clearly see last year's glittery carrot.

The second photo shows a blue gnome/wizard, a spotty chicken (there's about ten of those) and a rotund robin. All were made by my mum who's slightly weird.

Third photo shows a yellow gnome/wizard and a fluffy bauble. We have about six wizard-gnomes in different colours.

I'll miss it when it goes back to the loft.

Just done my tree - bought it yesterday & it's been in a bucket of water.

It's enormous - didn't look half as big before the man cut it down.

The star only just squeezes on top & it's very wide - we'll be edging past it so as not to knock things.

beautiful though Smile

Hmmm, I'm in the camp who thinks decorations co-ordinated to match room decor is the height of tackiness. But clearly I'm in the minority on this thread.

JellyFishFingers · 18/12/2016 21:23

Your tree has made me sad about my tree. It looks lovely and is on the corner looking sophisticated. Mine is slap bang in the middle of the room looking shit. I can't be arsed with it all.

Kleptronic · 18/12/2016 21:23

Here's mine, it has home made decs from down the infant/junior years, a tardis, mirror balls, a frightening dog and a demented angel. The tack!

But then my house is a shit tip so meh.

Guitargirl · 18/12/2016 21:25

OP - I think your problem is that the rest of your room is tidy and clutter-free so yes, possibly the tree might look out of place in such an environment.

Our slightly bonkers looking tree on the other hand is totally at home in our already slightly bonkers-looking living room 😁.

Squeegle · 18/12/2016 21:26

I like my old fashioned decorations. Have had some of them for 25 years. Some slightly newer. I don't like coordinated stuff. But each to their own. Thank God we're all different.

God, some of you are joyless. It's a couple of weeks max. No one cares if it doesn't match your decor. Relax and enjoy it!

Buttwing · 18/12/2016 21:28

Kleptronic- Christ that angel is scary!! I'd be worried it would come to life and attack me!

MapMyMum · 18/12/2016 21:29

My dh insisted on those foiled decorations that go from the corners of the ceiling in to the central light.....so yeah we have those dangling everywhere.... now that is tackiness, not your tree! And weve had them up since the first fri in December

Glittermakeseverythingbetter · 18/12/2016 21:32

OP I feel the same about trees, but have changed my colour scheme from the gaudy stuff kids liked in christmasses past, to room colour coordinating decorations only. Looking at your tree I think yabvvu as it is tastefully done and tucked in a corner!

ifcatscouldtalk · 18/12/2016 21:32

You think that tree makes your house look cluttered? That wouldn't even reach my worry radar. I think my tree/living room & house would give you a coronary.Chill out.

1horatio · 18/12/2016 21:33

Oh.... I love these Christmas trees.

If we were at home during a Christmas we'd have one as well.

I personally do think mismatched and actial tree (needles, awesome smell etc) and real candles are the way to go, but I still appreciate the effort the OP put into it!

SparklyTwinkleGlitter · 18/12/2016 21:35

I do have some sympathy OP.
We've got nine artificial trees dotted about, lost count of numbers of lights strung over everything, a shed load of tinsel and the whole house (every single room) is seriously OTT naff and my DH and DS couldn't be happier.
Luckily, I'm not very bothered about living in a show home but I've got friends coming round for curry on Tuesday and I know she'll probably find it overwhelming and want to sit in semi darkness.
She's ultra tidy and was complaining to me about the single real tree she has in her sitting room taking over the room! Oh dear. Grin

ohtheholidays · 18/12/2016 21:36

I have OCD OP and I would hate surprise visitors on any day let alone Boxing day, although I've just been told DS20 new girlfriend is coming to see us on Christmas Eve Sadshe's been here the last 3 weekends as it is I want a sodding break!

But your tree and your room really does look lovely, not tacky in the slightest! From your description I was expecting an 8 foot tree with neon decorations and lights on it.

For your DD's sake(I don't know how old she is)I'd try and keep the hatred of the tree to myself,I know it's hard but when I was growing up my Mum moaned and worried so much all the time and I was the one she moaned at constantly as a child about things being just so and it was exhausting.I have to try really hard not to act the same way around my 5DC now.

youarenotkiddingme · 18/12/2016 21:39

Haha - I get you!

I cannot manage looking at things that aren't ordered!
I'm not a clean freak or tidy freak by any stretch but things have to look right Confused

I have severe visual processing difficulties and think it stems from this.

My tree is tacky though in so much as Ds has built a Lego train track around it complete with Lego Lapland!
My decorations are all teal, pink and white to match the decor!

NoCapes · 18/12/2016 21:39

Joffrey is your tree sitting on a sofa??

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 18/12/2016 21:41

No it's on a coffee table with a tablecloth draped over it.

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 18/12/2016 21:43

Why is that angel reaching his hand out towards me?

Is he plotting my demise?

Guitargirl · 18/12/2016 21:44

youarenotkiddingme - I would love to see a photo of Lego Lapland!

youarenotkiddingme · 18/12/2016 21:46

Ta da Grin
