to think MNHQ should know better than to feature photos of babies in headbands (preumably to denote female) on this site?

Of all places!

Come on HQ. Pull your finger out!

You what? Hmm

Nan0second · 17/12/2016 22:12

I agree that they're awful and we don't need a sign that a child is female. However everyone else will tell you that YABU

AliceInUnderpants · 17/12/2016 22:14

Why? Apparent from headbands on babies being ugly on the majority of case I've seen, what heinous crime have they committed?

littleoysterslittleoysters · 17/12/2016 22:14

YABU

AVirginLitTheCandle · 17/12/2016 22:17

But if they don't wear headbands then people might think they're a boy.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 17/12/2016 22:17

SF25 - the photo that captions Blog Of The Day on the right of your screen. "What if babies were on Facebook?" - four little babies in nappies sat around a laptop, two of them have white headbands on. Two with headbands on, two without. I wonder why?

Care to expand littleoysters?

AliceInUnderpants · 17/12/2016 22:24

I'm guessing they looked for a stock photo of babies playing with a laptop and thought that was the best one for whatever reason. I don't think it's likely to be in anyway related to gender-stereotyping and/or feminism.

Maybe you should contact the photographer.

AliceInUnderpants · 17/12/2016 22:25

Personally, I'd have picked this one, as she looks like she has her serious 'someone on the internet has pissed me off' face on.

MothersRuinart · 17/12/2016 22:26

YABU.

Sallystyle · 17/12/2016 22:26

Shock horror, one also has pink socks on!

Back in the real world, no one really gives a shit that a website uses a stock photo where two babies are wearing head bands.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 17/12/2016 22:27

Yes, Alice, I'm guessing they looked for a stock photo of babies looking at a laptop and they should have known better than to choose that particular one.

If you can point me in the direction of how to contact the photographer, I will happily do so.

Me and Nan0 do, so that's two of us.

HQ are behind Let Toys Be Toys aren't they? Why not Let Bald Baby Heads Be Bald Baby Heads?

I have no fucks to give about this non issue

1stTimeMama · 17/12/2016 22:30

I think I'm totally missing the point? What's wrong with girl babies being out in headbands?

AliceInUnderpants · 17/12/2016 22:33

Can I also take issue with the fact that the visible nappies appear to be disposable? And none of them have cradle cap? Or glasses?

Sallystyle · 17/12/2016 22:34

Because some MN users have a bee in their bonnet over gender stereotyping MNHQ should agree with you and go along with it? Perhaps they actually don't give a shit about this issue.

Yeah, gender stereotyping is an important issue for many, but they might not care as much as you do and they don't need to pull their finger out because they posted a photo that some members don't like.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 17/12/2016 22:34

Oh lord. Yes you are missing the point FirstTimeMama.

Ask yourself - why does a "girl baby" need to be embellished with a headband? And why do we, looking at that photo, need to know that two of them are girls and two of them are boys?

Hobnobbing · 17/12/2016 22:34

Erm some people like to put headbands on their daughters, my DD doesn't look particularly girly and 99 times out of 100 doesn't wear a headband and doesn't wear girly clothes but I have the right to put one on her if the mood strikes.
Are we not meant to put them on baby girls nowadays so as not to offend people with too much time on their hands?

Sallystyle · 17/12/2016 22:34

It could be possible that the ones without headbands are also girls.

Headbands on babies are stupid. MN should not champion them.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 17/12/2016 22:38

U2 don't be so reductive. Gender stereotyping is a really important issue (not a bee in a bonnet) and I understood (although clearly am wrong) that HQ were firmly against it.

The nappies and glasses argument just doesn't work Alice because both sexes wear both.

MrsJayy · 17/12/2016 22:39

Baby girl in headband shocker you know some parents actually like bows and frills it is not a crime it does not demean girls and why do you think mumsnet of all websites is above showing babies in a hair band

SalemSaberhagen · 17/12/2016 22:39

My DD wore a headband to stop her curly thick hair from getting in her eyes. She was born with almost a full Afro. Please tell me why that is 'stupid'.
