Frozen as the Xmas day movie? Why?

justwanttoweeinpeace · 17/12/2016 17:49

Seriously. Hasn't everyone who wants to see it seen it already? Aren't some of us poor buggers stuck watching it daily?

Why the heck have they spent a load of money to show it on Xmas day? I get why the Xmas movie was a big deal in the eighties, but now? Can't they break with tradition and come up with some original programming instead?

OP posts:

I haven't seen it & might get around to it now!

toomuchtooold · 17/12/2016 18:26

I agree OP. In fact, I've never met someone who thinks so much like me.

LagunaBubbles · 17/12/2016 18:28

And what would you want then as "original programming"?

intheknickersoftime · 17/12/2016 18:32

I wish I hadn't seen it because you're in for such a treat if you haven't.

diddl · 17/12/2016 18:32

Ooh, it clashes with "It's a Wonderful Life"!

amispartacus · 17/12/2016 18:34

I wonder if "Holiday Inn" is on ? (seeing as it's always on at Christmas)

I can't remember when we sat and watched the movie. It used to be James Bond.

TheProblemOfSusan · 17/12/2016 18:38

For The First Time In Forever, a film I really want to watch on Christmas Day! Let It Go, OP. You must have a Frozen Heart not to want to see it.

You could watch it with the kids, then ask "Do you want to build a snowman?" afterwards, inspired by the film. Unless you live in a Fixer Upper, in which case you could get them to do some DIY, but I think that might be better done In Summer.

Open your heart to enjoying it, and why not sponsor some reindeer in a zoo if you get really into the spirit of it - Love Is An Open Door, after all and lots of people really like reindeers. Of course, Reindeers Are Better Than People, so that's not too surprising.

sandragreen · 17/12/2016 18:38

Ooh Good! I have never seen it - is it any good?

Wolpertinger · 17/12/2016 18:39

Never seen it, vaguely want to see it but not enough to spend money on it. We'll watch it Grin

JaxyBear · 17/12/2016 18:44

Could be worse...it could be Ben Hur or however it's spelt! Frozen is fab!

Hulababy · 17/12/2016 18:48

TheProblemOfSusan :)

Christmassnake · 17/12/2016 18:49

Totally agree op.that ship has sailed and sunk

toomuchtooold · 17/12/2016 18:49

TheProblemOfSusan you win Grin

Christmassnake · 17/12/2016 18:51

Ha ha ,or it could be worse...bob sue and Rita too....could you imagin?

TheNaze73 · 17/12/2016 18:51

I think it's not a big deal these days. I think video in the early 80's was the game changer here.

Crunchymum · 17/12/2016 18:51

Never seen it here!! Happy with it as a film choice actually.

WeeM · 17/12/2016 18:57

If you've never seen it, watch it-I was dubious but I absolutely love it!

TheProblemOfSusan · 17/12/2016 19:06

bows

It was really hard to shoehorn the reindeer title in :D

Squiff85 · 17/12/2016 19:08

Sorry but does anyone actually watch TV Christmas day?! I am usually with family, opening gifts & eating. If people don't like Frozen they can maybe put a DVD on

Oldraver · 17/12/2016 19:13

I haven't seen it and until the last year hadn't heard the Let it Go song 9had to YouTube it as it was always being referred to.

I'm happy with this state of affairs

Mindtrope · 17/12/2016 19:27

OP can't see why you care so much.

On a personal level I loved the movie.
This year I watched my teenage daughter and her group on the long stretch down a hill after camping and carrying kit on a snow covered Scottish Moor after 80 mile hike over 3 days on a Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. The kids had bloodied feet, were exhausted, cold, but on the last few 100 meters joined hands and burst out with that song "let it go". It was meaningful and I was gushing with tears watching that group on the final stretch.

steff13 · 17/12/2016 20:11

Die Hard is a pretty good Christmas movie. Since Alan Rickman died this year Xmas Sad, maybe they should show that.

Quimby · 17/12/2016 20:15

Because it's fucking awesome

gillybeanz · 17/12/2016 20:15

No, not all kids have seen it.
Some parents can't afford cinema, or buying dvd's every time a new one comes out.
Some kids have no parents to spend xmas day with and will be glad to see this film they have never seen before.

children who do have parents on xmas day would really benefit from those parents spending time with them, you know. Not just watching tv Xmas Sad

ssd · 17/12/2016 20:18

I wouldnt watch Frozen on a wet Tuesday night never mind Christmas day

but I have teen boys so its not a problem here Grin
