To think sod you, you ungrateful little gits

DSs (10 and 7) broke up from school today, as did I. Tonight has been a whingefest. To cap it all, when we said we are going to see Santa tomorrow (nice morning out at local museum, do it every year and there is loads to do as well as Santa) they moaned because it is too early in the morning at 10 o'clock.

Told them right, sod it, they don't have to go - but pointed out that I will also ruin their Sunday because we are off to a Christmas market. I dare say the trip to town on Tuesday and the meal out on Thursday will be similarly troublesome.

So, AIBU or are they ungrateful little bastards?

Sorry I've just noticed the OP says it was a trip to the museum. In that case I take it all back! What's not to like about a museum? If you have planned fun things for the week then they should try to engage as it's Christmas.

Oh mine are getting whiny overexcited and irritable bickering at the moment and they've not broke up for the Christmas holidays yet!

I feel really sad to see that some people think 10 is too old to believe in Santa 😭 And also that kids shouldn't need a pj day! My eldest needs a day off a week to 'chill' whereas my youngest can party without sleep for 2 weeks solid!! I need a day off after my shifts to Mong/eat/snooze spend 5 hours in the bath so why shouldn't kids? I advocate giving them a day off at the beginning of the hols...it's been an active term and in most cases will be an active holiday for them. You have my sympathy though...mine fight like mad and are little arse holes!

Average age to stop believing is 7.

Checked with DH re: Santa as I was scared of Santa so obvs wouldn't have wanted to see him. Also I'd figured out, even when I did believe that all the Santas you met were fake Santas and not the real Santa so still no interest in meeting any of them.

Anyway, DH says 10 is too old.

Belief in Santa does not = belief in Grotto-Santa. After a certain age, if you want to preserve belief in the former, it is probably just as well to stay well clear of the latter.

My kids have never liked grotto Santas.

Even as toddlers they were deeply suspicious, despite my coaxing to visit.

The Santa that visited us at home was different, as he is deeply embedded in our fantasy world, so will never be removed.
My youngest is 16 and we all still get excited by Santa magic.

PatriciaHolm · 17/12/2016 16:27

Even when DS did believe in Santa, he hated grotto Santa. Did it twice I think, neither time he was happy and didn't ever want to do it again.

Neither of mine believed beyond about 6/7 anyway so Santa at 10 would have been a real no go! But OP knows her kids and what they believe.
