For selling for a profit?

I managed to get hold of one those really in demand toys for Xmas. I got it for a friend I knew was looking for one but she managed to get one the same time.

I looked at what they are selling for and I put it onto a local selling sight for what I paid +25.

I got really slammed for it on page which people saying I was taking advantage of desperate parents.

My first thought was to be irritated as I don't think anyone needs to be desperate for a toy - but then I had second thoughts and took it down.

Wibu to try and sell it on for a profit?

Ahh it's lovely that you've offered it to Monkey at cost OP, wishing you a very Merry Christmas!

FaerieDusting · 15/12/2016 20:32

Put it on eBay with a reserve price of what you paid for it. If people bid beyond that it's because they are willing to pay more for it.

QueenMortificado · 15/12/2016 20:33

Offer it to someone in need at cost

No one NEEDS a toy

DurhamDurham · 15/12/2016 20:35

We happened to be in a shop last year when they got a delivery of that game which slaps people in the face with squirty cream, we bought three and sold them on eBay. They'd all gone within two days at double the rrp, we didn't feel guilty as it allowed us to buy things for our children that we might not have been able to afford.

Elledouble · 15/12/2016 20:40

Eh, it's not a kind thing to do but no-one can stop you.

Much better karma to do what you've done and offer it to someone here Smile

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 15/12/2016 20:45

Yay, you're a good egg OP for selling it to Monkey at cost! Hurrah for MN and festive decency!

Although YWNBU to sell for more than you paid, no-one 'needs' a toy FFS, and it's not like OP bought it deliberately for profiteering!

FabulouslyGlamourousFerret · 15/12/2016 20:48

OP is giving it to Monkey at cost ... Halo retract the meanness and spread the Christmas love folks Xmas SmileXmas Smile

QODRestYeMerryGentlemen · 15/12/2016 20:55

I'd have flogged it on eBay

I'm twitching as I have not one but TWO mini Nintendo things and they're going for £100

However I think my kid and niece and nephew will
Love them
Sigh

I would have sold it to monkey face though 🐒

anannoyinglylongusername · 16/12/2016 21:49

monkeyfacegrace do you still want it?

OP posts:
HickDead · 16/12/2016 23:03

I'm a bit conflicted about this one, I do think it's a bit greedy but it always happens when certain toys are in such high demand. My dd wants one and I'm losing hope of finding one now. I refuse to pay more than the rrp so I'm going to give her a letter from santa along with a voucher to get one after Christmas. I've been kind of preparing her that she might not get one on Christmas morning so she won't be hugely crushed. It's the parents that are buying them at any cost that are irritating me more, a bit of disappointment never caused long term damage.

Still frantically searching though!

Isadora2007 · 16/12/2016 23:10

YWNBU
I sold the Nintendo mini NES thing for £120 after basically getting it for free. I bought it for ds1 but then realised he has no tv in his flat. I can now give him some cash as well as a different gift. Ho Ho Ho 🎅🏻

Bit harsh Earl, you know it was your choice to buy something and not read the description properly. No need to call the other poster a cow.

buckeejit · 16/12/2016 23:36

Yanbu-I sold an m&s beauty calendar for £25 more than I paid on eBay-I did buy £36 of stuff I didn't need for it though & stayed up late to purchase it early (was going to gift to mil when it became clear she wouldn't appreciate it!)

anannoyinglylongusername · 16/12/2016 23:41

Well I took it down, then agreed to sell it at cost to a PP who was desperate to get hold of one.

In good faith I haven't relisted it but looks like I can't win either way as now they've gone silent ...:(

I'm going to give it to the food bank tof raffle off if I don't hear anything tomorrow - I'll get my Xmas goodwill feeling back !

Xmas Hmm

You're hardly profiteering as you bought an extra for a friend who didn't need it. Not exactly bought the country's stock.

Sell it at a profit and enjoy it.

All this 'so desperate that they paid £100' is ludicrous. It's a toy ffs.

Oh and this is called market forces- such a basic economic supply/demand issue.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 16/12/2016 23:42

Op she said in her last post her phone is dying but perhaps you missed it?
