To not let my taxi driver into my home to use the loo?

Jumped in taxi that I hailed from the street. Driver asked me where are we going, I gave him the address.
He then asked me if it is my home. I said yes. Then he asked if he can use my bathroom when we get there. I said "excuse me?" (Radio was blaring and so I wasn't sure what I heard). He asked again saying it's one of the problems being a taxi driver....

I was on backfoot and said oh yes of course! Confused even though I really didn't like the idea.

Dh is at home and will be there when I get in...

However i got a little braver as the journey went on (20mins) and asked that he instead pull into a petrol station on the way and use the facilities there. He said alright... then I felt guilty for some strange reason. (I'm a people pleaser) so told him it was that I'd hate him to be uncomfortable and traffic was bad. He said ok but was quiet the rest of the way home after being all chat! Hmm.

Aibu to not want to be put in that awkward position? If he needed to go to the loo that badly he shouldn't have taken the job. Or should I have let him into my home to use my bathroom?

As it turned out, I've just got in and dh is not home yet - so I'm glad I hadn't said yes now!

FWIW I'm not a misnadrist, I'm just pretty uncompromising when it comes to personal safety.

Totally inappropriate and rather stange, he should have suggested stopping off at the petrol station if he was that desperate not you.

YA absolutely NBU - what a horrible position to be put in; I know I would react like you and instinctively say yes if put on the spot. Well done for retracting it. PP who said that he may just have needed a wee and not be a serial killer - yes, we know that. In all likelihood it was a completely innocent request. But it was still an utterly inappropriate one to make to a woman on her own, and for her own safety OP had no choice but to refuse it.

Thanks Minty. That's exactly how I feel about it too.

I cannot believe that anyone would or could ever justify this person's behaviour, OR saying yes to such a request. WTAF?! I'd have jumped out of the fucking taxi at the petrol garage, tbh. You seriously need to develop some assertiveness and boundaries, OP. I suggest reading Gavin De Becker's 'The Gift of Fear' if you read one thing at all.

I completely agree, Legend. I've been acquaintance raped and held up at gunpoint twice (I used to live in the US) and believe me, I don't take chances with personal safety and I don't care how 'impolite' it is.

Good Lord, no chance.
