Hi everyone!

I am so fed up of reading all the teacher bashing threads lately! Most people have no idea the amount of word they have to do and the stress they are under! Angry

So please share positive stories/experiences of teachers!

Show the appreciation! Grin

I'm constantly hearing teachers say/imply it's the hardest job going; there are several such implications on this very thread.

I've had a good look at this thread and I can't find many teachers on it all, and none doing what you say.

Boundaries · 14/12/2016 20:14

bloody where? Could you C&P please?

Italiangreyhound · 14/12/2016 20:17

I thought this thread was about positive comments.

I'be already made one but here is another.... My dd is in secondary school and loves it. Her teachers have her chocolates today. I think that is so kind.

bloodymincepiez · 14/12/2016 20:18

There are a few on the first two pages, although admittedly second hand (partners of teachers.) Plus a post on page 5 confidently stating retail is a breeze compared to teaching.

Boundaries · 14/12/2016 20:18

Gave, right, Italian? They didn't steal her chocolate?? Grin

Amispartucus
Many jobs are not easy to be shite in, but it happens, like the surgical team that left a surgical swab in my friend. That really is life and death and an error that cost the NHS a lot!
Equally was qualifies as 'shite' ? Plans the lesson, delivers lesson, marks work. But students don't behave/listen/engage... who's fault is it? If a grade 1 teacher in inner city BHam swapped places with a grade 1 teacher at Eton would they still be Outstanding?

Boundaries · 14/12/2016 20:20

The second hand ones detail what their partners do. At no point do they say it's the hardest job going.

Haven't found the other one yet.

noblegiraffe · 14/12/2016 20:20

Is someone who worked in retail seriously not allowed to say they found it much easier than teaching without being jumped on for apparently saying that teaching is the HARDESTJOBEVER?

Get a grip.

echt · 14/12/2016 20:23

I've looked at the posts and no, they do not say or imply that teaching is the hardest job in the world, just that it's hard.

bloodymincepiez · 14/12/2016 20:25

Hardly, given no one - especially not me - has told people they are not 'allowed' to post anything (although 'get a grip' skirts close to) - but I do disagree.

It depends on the retail: part time in a craft shop isn't Christmas Eve at Tesco - but certainly, I think there are other jobs that are just awful in terms of not only hours but what is actually expected in terms of money.

My friend manages a home care agency and has to put the rotas together. Sounds simple! But it's like trying to knit with spaghetti as person A doesn't work in town B and person C won't work with person E and person F is banned from client A's house. And if she can't cover the work, she has to go and do if, and it's only paid if it's outside of office hours. For that, she gets the princely sum of £7.50 an hour! I could go on but honestly I am regularly horrified with what she has to put up with.

Then another friend has had horrendous problems working for BT, with unpaid overtime (if you're on a call you have to stay on it even if it's the end of your shift and this can clock up huge hours.) Again, low pay.

I think it's rubbish in a lot of places. It shouldn't be and I hate it but the fact is, I just don't see teaching as notably worse and I'm thankful I have it.

KatherinaMinola · 14/12/2016 20:26

Equally was qualifies as 'shite' ?

Well, to give a few examples:

Can't spell, punctuate or write grammatically
Can't add up
Can't mark work correctly
No interpersonal skills
Shouty and unpredictable
Poor subject knowledge
No presentation skills

That kind of thing Grin All seen regularly. I think it's actually quite an easy job to be shite in actually.

Boundaries · 14/12/2016 20:28

But bloody there aren't any teachers saying it's the hardest job ever. Or that there aren't lots of jobs that ARE hard.

In fact, my first post was about how much I love teaching.

pieceofpurplesky · 14/12/2016 20:28

Er mummypotz yes they are. Unpaid. But you won't listen. So you go ahead and think teachers' holidays are paid. You are 100% wrong. They are paid in the holidays but not for the holidays. And a lot less than some other jobs that belong to professional bodies.

Italiangreyhound · 14/12/2016 20:29

Yes gave her chocolates!

bloodymincepiez · 14/12/2016 20:31

Fair enough, Boundaries Xmas Smile I think I'm probably so used to hearing it I see it when it's not there!

Lagirafe · 14/12/2016 20:33

My DC attend a school in quite a deprived area (50% FSM) and I am regularly amazed at the high calibre of the teaching staff.
How they manage to recruit/retain them is beyond me as some of the parents are vile but whatever they are doing I am grateful for my own DC.
I've received nothing but support from the school and even when times were hard they were the only "agency" to help me in a practical way.
Xmas Smile

noblegiraffe · 14/12/2016 20:36

bloody that poster said she found retail easy compared to teaching. You used her post to support your assertion that there are teachers on this thread saying teaching is the hardest job ever.

Except she didn't say that at all. You've got it in your head that teachers are all saying teaching is the hardest job ever when they're not, and you've described teachers as a bunch of moaners on a thread that asked for positive stories.

bloodymincepiez · 14/12/2016 20:38

I do think teachers are a bunch of moaners, in the nicest possible way Xmas Grin

Boundaries · 14/12/2016 20:39

I'm not.

noblegiraffe · 14/12/2016 20:41

But bloody why are you posting that on a thread that asked for positive stories? You could have taken your negative posts to the ongoing teacher bashing thread.

bloodymincepiez · 14/12/2016 20:42

In fairness giraffe, it was said affectionately and the 'ongoing teacher bashing thread' has several posts defending teachers, just as this one has several pointing out that, while many teachers are very good, they aren't all saints and paragons of virtue either.

Idiotxit · 14/12/2016 20:46

Point me at the pages of generalised adverse comment on other jobs that appear year after year after year

That's not really something I can do, is it, since there are literally thousands of them. I take it you're a teacher? If you are then it makes sense that you might well notice the adverse coverage of the teaching profession more than the coverage of lawyers, politicians, police officers, firefighters, and so on, and so on, and so on.

There is undoubtedly adverse coverage of teachers, but I really think many other people, from different professions would say the same of their own.

noblegiraffe · 14/12/2016 20:46

"Teachers are a bunch of moaners"

"Teachers are a bunch of moaners"

Said affectionately or not, they both read the same on a thread filled with teacher-bashing posts. Maybe best not to say it at all.
