AIBU to mention this to my GP or will I look like a loon?

I have an appointment with my GP later on this morning for some other ongoing health issues. While I'm there would IBU to ask about another issue?

My period started 8 days after my last period ended. I am experiencing extremely heavy flow so much so I am completely flooding thick, heavy flow pads every 20-30 minutes. I have never had a flow this heavy, I have really bad lower back pain but not too bad on the stomach/cramping side of things. I feel okayish, if a bit tired. In general my periods are pretty consistent 25-28 day cycle, lasting 4-7 days and medium to light flow.

Would I look like a loon to mention this to my GP at my appointment today, I don't want tmy GP to think I'm nuts complaining about a period!

I agree you need to get seen now. Your friend will be happy to help when she knows

Miserylovescompany2 · 14/12/2016 20:40

Please don't put this off, get yourself to the hospital as soon as. If needs be take a puke bowl for your child. Call a taxi. If you start to feel really dizzy then phone an ambulance. Your family can meet you there...

Agree with others, stress doesn't cause heavy bleeding?

pensivepolly · 14/12/2016 20:47

Please do anything you have to in order to get to A&E right now.

Nipperknight · 14/12/2016 20:51

Oh dear OP. I hope you're ok. Please listen to the good advice you've received.

You need to be seen urgently, I would get your DH home asap.

iamdivergent · 14/12/2016 20:57

I hope you are OK op

KitKat1985 · 14/12/2016 20:58

I'm really disappointed your GP said this was stress. Stress does not cause heavy bleeding! Please get a second opinion. xx

wineandsunshine · 14/12/2016 21:00

Hope you are ok too op x

lilyb84 · 14/12/2016 21:06

This seems to be happening worryingly frequently on here! Hope you can be seen op - and that your dd is okay too.

HopefulHamster · 14/12/2016 21:12

I am beginning to feel this is a feminist issue (not joking). Heavy bleeding is not 'stress' - why are problems to do with periods brushed off so often, sometimes by medical professionals, and sometimes by ourselves?

Actually the ourselves one is probably a mix of things - not wanting to cause a fuss (cos that's how women are trained, innit), periods being something where you can never truly know what 'normal' is because you only experience your own, etc.

Anyway not the place for me to wonder too much on this OP's thread but it just came to mind. I have seen three women on these boards get seriously ill with heavy bleeding recently!

Really hope you get seen OP.

GloGirl · 14/12/2016 21:13

Why not ask your friend and she what she would prefer to do? Wait and see if you can get a home visit or go and visit you? If it were me I'd set off now. Good luck OP.

thatsnotmyusername · 14/12/2016 21:21

Hope you are okay op. Please make sure you get checked out.

Samkate · 15/12/2016 05:45

Hope you're ok OP

frumpet · 15/12/2016 06:53

Stress !!!! that is the weakest diagnosis for heavy blood loss I have ever heard .

Really hope you have been seen OP and that you are OK Flowers

GloGirl · 15/12/2016 07:09

I think what the doctor was refering to was stress causing irregular periods. I think he'd somehow missed the massive bleeding or possibly totally underestimated it. I hope you're ok.

minmooch · 15/12/2016 07:12

How are you today op?

Shakey15000 · 15/12/2016 07:18

Hope you're ok Flowers

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 15/12/2016 07:29

Stress makes you bleed! Ahahahaha where did he go to medical school????

msrisotto · 15/12/2016 07:31

Before you said it HopefulHamster I was thinking, why don't doctors take womens problems seriously? Makes me so angry!

I hope you're ok op.

SparklyMagpie · 15/12/2016 07:58

Really hoping you managed to get to A&E OP and you're ok this morning!!

Ilovetorrentialrain · 15/12/2016 08:09

Agree HopefulHamster

Hope you've been seen and are OK, OP.

showmetheminstrels · 15/12/2016 08:19

I hope you're ok OP and you got seen.

That Locum was wrong. Emotional stress should not be included as a differential diagnosis for the level of gynaecological haemorrhage you're experiencing. Once you're better they should really be spoken to about that potentially life threatening misdiagnosis.

Please, if you haven't been seen, go this morning.

IckleWicklePumperNickle · 15/12/2016 09:14

Hope you're ok. Please let us know. The doc should have known better.

LittleRedWagon1 · 15/12/2016 09:35

Morning, thank you for asking after me.

I didn't manage to get out to OOH/A&E. DH got stuck on a job in about 30 miles away from his station and couldn't get back. I couldn't get hold of my friend and MIL was unable to get away from work. DD1 was throwing up every 20 minutes or so, so it was impossible for me to get looked at.
DH still isn't home, he got a blue light run just before the end of his shift Sad

I am waiting for my GP to call me back. I am still bleeding although I'm not sure if its wishful thinking but it seems to be slowing down and lessening slightly. I am exhausted I only managed a couple of hours broken sleep between DD1 and bleeding so much. Still no pain just feel sore.

"Stress" is the laziest diagnosis for severe mid-cycle bleeding I've ever heard. Negligent, even.

Hope you get to see someone else.

lilyb84 · 15/12/2016 09:42

Oh op what a horrible night. I hope it is slowing but that you manage to get checked out anyway. Has your dd stopped throwing up?
