Bastardwanking Amazon!

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 13/12/2016 22:16

I ordered an item on express delivery at the end of November. When it didn't arrive, I spent three hours on live chat to ACS...they kept disconnecting me, then asking me the same questions over and over again, giving me conflicting info from the previous advisor- the previous info was still on my sodding screen ffs!- and generally pissing about.

They offered me a refund, which- after telling me they weren't allowed to (!) they paid straight into my amazon account. I was able to buy the item again, and it was delivered the next day by courier (not yodel thank fuck!)

Now the other bastarding parcel has turned up.

And Amazon are acting as if I'm making it up! The item is shown as "delivering on..." and I didn't have to sign for it- so there's no proof!

Amazon are refusing to take the other item back unless I pay postage, etc. I don't have a printer to print off the label they provide. And I'm still reeling from the second bout of rude and patronizing contact I had over the live chat thing this afternoon.

AIBU to keep the item here, and, should they pursue it, refuse to send it back until they arrange postage. I KNOW it's only a few £, but it's the principal, no?

Aware this post is long and ranty- sorry.

Given how little tax the bastards pay - keep it.

Conscience clear that it is their mistake. Their profits are so huge that that they can afford to absorb the cost. In fact it'd probably cost them more in admin to sort out anyway.

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 14/12/2016 00:49

Email and ask them to arrange a collection with DPD that will ensure the return is pre paid.

Source: I work there . Sorry about that.

Topseyt · 14/12/2016 02:16

Keep it. I would stop worrying about it.

They clearly aren't too bothered.

KatieScarlett · 14/12/2016 06:09

They apologised and are sending me a replacement to arrive tomorrow.Pretty fast response, not too shabby for Katie...Smile

BoomBoomsCousin · 14/12/2016 06:50

For the most part I've had great Amazon experiences, but over the 10 odd years I've used them there have been a couple of times it's gone horribly wrong and it seems like you're just talking to a "computer says 'No'".

If they've only charged you for one of the item, I would use some kind of recorded medium (e.g. email or chat) to let them know that you can't print out the return label and if they want it back they will need to post one to you. Than I'd leave it that. It's probably costing them more to respond to the unusual situation than the cost of the item, so don't worry about it.

ConvincingLiar · 14/12/2016 06:53

If you've told them and they don't want it back, your conscience is clear. Don't worry about it. I'd give the free one away/keep as a spare/put on eBay. I find Amazon are good for customers, but as they don't pay enough tax or treat their staff well, if not worry about getting one over on them.

ememem84 · 14/12/2016 07:02

given how little tax the bastards pay I hate comments like this.

Yes Amazon pay little tax. But wouldn't we all if we could?

Anyway. I've always found customer services to be great. I buy cat food online it was meant to arrive on 30 Nov. It didn't I ran out of food. Had to visit local store. Amazon refunded me, reimbursed me for the pet shop food and send another delivery. Catface is happy because she's got more food than anyone.

Miserylovescompany2 · 14/12/2016 07:08

Personally, I'd keep the item and wait to see if they ask for it to be returned? Their system (like many) is automated. So you'll likely end up with another refund if you returned The original item was already refunded, it's just Sod's law the thing turned up!

I've had the same happen with first item never showing up for three weeks, I chase it up, seller dispatches another...then both turn up days apart. The seller in this instance had used Royal Mail, and generated a tracking number. The tracking number never progressed as the seller hadn't at that point even posted the item. Amazon debit your funds once the item is despatched, so by a seller generating a tracking number, it frees up the funds without the item being dispatched...

Save yourself more hassle and keep the item!

MissClarke86 · 14/12/2016 07:26

I really don't get this.

They've refunded you for an item that you subsequently received, told you to keep it as a goodwill gesture, and you're slagging them off?

oklumberjack · 14/12/2016 07:27

Just keep it.

This has happened a few times in my family. Last Christmas I ordered a Merlin box set for dd. It didn't turn up so I live chatted and found out it was 'lost in transit' so they sent out another. Replacement turned up 2 days later.... with the original one. I maybe morally corrupt but I kept it!

Same thing happened this week with my niece. Jurassic Park box set. She's only been charged for one. She's kept it.

The way I see it is, you been upfront with them. They seem to officially 'cancel' the original item at their end and re-issue. I can see why sending back the original would be more of a headache.

I buy an awful lot from Amazon. Their customer service is normally very good.

OnionKnight · 14/12/2016 07:33

I don't understand what the issue is.

I've never had a problem with Amazon, even their live chat hasn't been troublesome.

RebeccaCloud9 · 14/12/2016 07:33

My biggest tip for getting good customer service is get on Twitter, being polite and honest but firm. Every single time I've had an issue, this has got it sorted, usually with some kind of freebie thrown in eg a £40 John Lewis gift card as an apology for having to chase up a refund on returned items and a big box full of replacement food items when a pack of something I bought had the wrong thing in. Always worth a try!

RebeccaCloud9 · 14/12/2016 07:34

Also, amazon are well known for letting you keep both items in this situation, I know a few people who it has happened to (genuine mistakes, no fraud!) and Amazon have just told them to keep both.

Swissgemma · 14/12/2016 07:35

I ordered a suitcase on amazon last week - it arrived and they had sent a plastic box instead!!!!!! used the online thingamy - super helpful - I was flying the next day so she sent round the replacement using amazon now so it arrived within 2 hours! the delivery guy took away the box and all was good... sorted within 2.5 hours of me opening the box!

thecapitalsunited · 14/12/2016 07:39

Keeping an extra product in this situation wouldn't bother me. It will probably cost them more in staff time to accept it back than they would lose from giving it to you. Amazon have tiny profit margins.

thecapitalsunited · 14/12/2016 07:39

The situation being that they've said you can keep it!

TheNaze73 · 14/12/2016 07:52

I must be lucky, in about 18 years & using them at least 10 times a year, I've never had an order go wrong.
Sorry to hear you've been unlucky

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 14/12/2016 08:02

Sorry, mad hour here.

MissClarke I'm not "slagging them off" for sending me two items, etc. The other parcel arriving was the latest incident after being messed around by ACS, being reduced to tears at one point. And because they are now refusing to accept the second parcel back unless I pay postage.

OP posts:
PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 14/12/2016 08:04

TheNaze me neither, and I've been using them for about the same length of time. I struggle to shop for items from an actual store, so Amazon have been a godsend in the past!

OP posts:
bruffin · 14/12/2016 08:11

Stop obeing so over dramatic, they told you to keep it, so keep it and donate to a charity shop if you dont want it. Lots of companies dont want things back because its more trouble than its worth.

FlysInDreams · 14/12/2016 08:11

If they won't take it back and you don't want it, give it to a friend or a charity shop.

KnowOneNose · 14/12/2016 09:39

Some people aren't reading the thread.

Amazon haven't said the OP can keep it

Amazon haven't said they won't pay postage to return the item. It's just that the OP doesn't have a printer to print out the return label but is now going to get it printed by a friend.

Not returning the item 'in case' the item gets refunded AGAIN is silly. It's normal for Amazon to refund before returning items. I've had it happen lots of times.

OP, there will be a record of your marathon live chat do if there were red enough to 'reduce you to tears' then you could and should complain. As it will all be there in writing. I would do this as a separate issue to returning the item.

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 14/12/2016 10:00

Knowone I screenshotted the lot. (or is it "screenshot"?).

OP posts:
bruffin · 14/12/2016 10:33

Have they actually asked you to return the item, because it really isnt clear from this?

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 14/12/2016 10:45

Bruffin sorry about my unclear OP...I was rantng and realize I didn't make much sense. They are refusing to acknowledge the fact that it's even been delivered as my "my orders" page says "Out for delivery" or something like that- not even "cancelled"! Then in the next moment they said I'd have to pay p&p to return the item. (decided to do this now as my friend is helping me find the return address etc, make a label, and send it off today)
