Can't continue like this, even my current medication is not enough/ not working properly. Can't breathe at night but I don't want to go to A&E. All I need to see is my GP or any doctor ( not a specialist nurse or a paramedic) and I don't know what to do because there are no GPs until January!! Feeling rubbish and a bit desperate for advice too! Thank you!

I also remember thinking very clearly during my own attack: "Only the hospital has the drugs I need" (and there was an absolute cocktail, as I imagine the OP has also had!). Even if you had got a GP appointment and managed to get there - doubtful given your condition - it's very unlikely they could have helped much and they would probably have called an ambulance straight away.

I am happy that you are now getting the treatment you need.

Get well soon.

How are you doing OP?

Lifeisontheup2 · 13/12/2016 09:03

I'm a paramedic and not being able to speak in full sentences with the blue inhaler not sorting it is a red flag symptom for me and definitely worthy of a 999 call, please do that if it ever happens again.

My cousin died aged 28 because her parents didn't call for an ambulance. Sad

Asthma is not to be messed around with and the paramedic you saw who said it was a panic attack deserves to be struck off! You may have been ( understandably) panicking but that's not the same.

Btfly2 so so glad you went to hospital, hope you are continuing to improve today.

Lifeisontheup I never complained about them. It was a Sunday afternoon and he'd probably saw several panic attacks that day. We all make mistakes. My asthma has been poorly controlled this year (no fault of my own - I'm just back from.the GPs with another chest infection) and I've had to have you guys out a few times. Thankyou for all you do. Flowers that's so sad about your cousin. I remember a consultant giving me a telling off - he wouldn't discharge me unless someone was home with me (single parent). Me "I'm fine". Him: "I'm serious. I've had patients your age tell me they're fine to go home and they've been found dead in their bed the next day.". Shock

OP I hope you are starting to feel much better now and are on regular nebulisers and on the right medicine to get you better. Hope you're well and home soon.

Sorry to hear you're in hospital, but it really is the best place. DH was at the OOH GP a couple of months ago with his asthma after failing to get a GP appmt at our surgery. He wasn't as unwell as you and could speak in full sentences. They immediately gave him a preventer inhaler and a new (different) reliever one too. I sent him there ASAP before it got too bad, you don't mess with asthma.

Hoping you're sorted out and home soon.
