Can't continue like this, even my current medication is not enough/ not working properly. Can't breathe at night but I don't want to go to A&E. All I need to see is my GP or any doctor ( not a specialist nurse or a paramedic) and I don't know what to do because there are no GPs until January!! Feeling rubbish and a bit desperate for advice too! Thank you!

I know that horrible feeling. I think you need a &e now. Possibly an ambulance tbh in case you pass out.

icanteven · 12/12/2016 11:47

I know the feeling when you can't breathe - everything else seems desperate and insurmountable, but all GP's take asthma VERY seriously, and if you ring up and say you simply can't breathe and your inhalers aren't working, they will either see you straight away or recommend you go to hospital. There is simply no WAY they would suggest you hang on in there til January.

I hope that you have been able to get to A&E or get an emergency appointment thi morning.

hazeyjane · 12/12/2016 11:56

I really hope you are in A+E getting sorted out, op.

We waited with ds last month, thinking we could manage at home. When we got to A+E, not wanting to 'waste' an ambulance. After ds was discharged - they said next time call an ambulance straight away.

Don't mess about with asthma.

TaraCarter · 12/12/2016 12:47

Fucking hell! Please be in A&E right now.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/12/2016 12:50

Not talking to save air is 999 worthy. Ring now.

CanandWill · 12/12/2016 12:52

Hope you are getting treated in hospital op

ManagersDilemma · 12/12/2016 14:05

This is another voice telling you to please go to A&E. My symptoms were similar to yours and I was hospitalised for 3 days with a 'life-threatening' asthma attack. The majority of fatal attacks occur when the person doesn't go to hospital or leaves it way too late.

Friendinneed2016 · 12/12/2016 14:11

Hope you have been seen now OP. Let us know how you are.

FannyFifer · 12/12/2016 18:35

Hope you got some help today and are ok.

btfly2 · 12/12/2016 19:32

THANK YOU ALL!! At the hospital at the mo but the IPad with me of course!
You lovely mumsnetters. I'm writing this message from my hospital bed. My DH was an angel and also the ppl working here were and are wonderful! Excellent care but my asthma is in a mess so I'll be here all night and will see tomorrow after more tests, nebul. more tests, etc.

I was underestimating my asthma and is not a joke.
Back to you soon hopefully breathing better xxxx

Glad your being taken seriously. Hope your home soon

topcat2014 · 12/12/2016 19:43

Glad you are getting fixed up.

Temporaryname137 · 12/12/2016 19:47

Well done OP. Asthma is fucking horrible. My DB described it as trying to breathe through a tiny straw, and he's right.

Mine is pretty mild but I once had an allergy triggered attack when I was about 14 and had to go to a 24 pharmacy to get an inhaler. It worked within seconds and I asked him what people did before they had inhalers.

"Lots of them died, love," he said quietly.

V glad you are being sorted out, lots of luck.

Pastaagain78 · 12/12/2016 19:47

Thank goodness you are safe!

Ditsy4 · 12/12/2016 19:53

So glad you went. You really must. As others have said if you can't speak/say a sentence then you must go to A&E. Asthma is not something to mess about with.

hazeyjane · 12/12/2016 20:06

btfly2 - good to read your update and hear you are being looked after.

Hope you sort out a good asthma plan.

HaveNoSocks · 12/12/2016 20:23

Thank goodness. Especially came back to check on this thread. Sorry you have to stay overnight but I'm so glad you went in!

mirokarikovo · 12/12/2016 20:40

Thank goodness you got there in time. I was worried you were going to stick with the not-wanting-to-be-a-nuisance line until it got even worse. Hope all is well soon.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 12/12/2016 21:16

So glad you went OP! Get well soon Flowers

Tiredtomybones · 12/12/2016 21:38

Keep us informed OP. Hope you feel much better soon. DS is asthmatic & it's terrifying. I though I was losing him in the Summer. He was airlifted to hospital. I am traumatised and wish I had known more about asthma at the time. I have read with interest all the posts here. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences. Asthma is shit. All the best, OP.

Blossomdeary · 12/12/2016 21:43

All practices should have the option for urgent situations to be dealt with the same day.

After you have sorted this situation you should make a complaint.

But - in the immediate situation you must find a walk-in centre or A&E. I promise you that people go to A&E with total trivia. This is NOT trivial.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 12/12/2016 21:55

OP. When you are feeling much better. Please ask the hospital before you leave for a pink card (if all areas are the same as mine - East Midlands).

A community nurse will come out and visit you when you can't get an emergency appointment at the GPs and can then fast track you to the hospital if needed. Mine have been nothing short of amazing with me. It also comes with a warning to ambulance crew so if you ever did need to ring 999 they'll know to treat your asthma seriously.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 12/12/2016 21:56

Tiredtomybones bless you that sounds awful for your DS Flowers

AwaywiththePixies27 · 12/12/2016 21:57

And for you of course. Flowers I hope your DS is much better now.

ManagersDilemma · 12/12/2016 22:05

I'm so pleased to hear you went to A&E and were taken seriously (as of course you would have been!). Flowers for a speedy recovery.
