To think this is not a 'misunderstanding' due to our nationalities

A mother at my international school is constantly mimicking my accent and mocking things I say and calling me posh. I can take that but recently at a party she said to my DH whilst having a fag outside with him 'I'm great at wanking' Having confronted her after she said something else that really pissed me off she claims it was a 'joke' and she didn't mean it. She said she always ' jokes'about peoples accents. She said that she didn't realize English people were so different to Australians??? Do you buy it??? Still fuming.

Some people just like to shock or belittle others which she has enjoyed doing to the op

This is more likely to come from someone who lacks self confidence but it's not excuse

Low social intelligence really how low does it have to be

Some Australians can be rather brash. Ask her if she's from Brisbane

BratFarrarsPony · 11/12/2016 13:43

Ask her if her ancestors came with a ball and chain or did they pay 10 pounds?

JassyRadlett · 11/12/2016 13:43

Hi Mrs Peppa. What sweeping generalisation would you like to make about the 2.3 million people who live in Brisbane?

wanders off wondering how it would go down if I said the people of Birmingham were all twats. Or that some Brits were rude and small-minded...

AnnieAnoniMouse · 11/12/2016 13:44

I hope your DH said 'That's great. Feel free to enjoy it in the privacy of your own home'.

I'm a bit confused whether she was telling your DH she's good at sorting herself out, offering him a hand job, or trying to be funny about another word (though can't think what).

If I were you, I'd summon up my poshest accent and say 'Oh do Fuck Orf, you're a terrible bore'

RedStripeIassie · 11/12/2016 13:47

Good at wanking off people or good at 'treating herself'?

Pollyanna9 · 11/12/2016 13:48

I'm just sat here laughing like a loon at the 'I'm great at wanking' statement. Seriously, did OPs partner just say 'hey that's great' or wtf did he say?!!

Really really bizarre.

Next time she takes the piss of how you speak/your accent tell to f off to the further part of ff town - just don't take it and 'be the bigger person'. She sounds mentally unhinged or just plain nasty and needs putting firmly back in her place.

WHY are there so many weird aggro people like this that we have to have strategies for? Honestly it gets wearing it really does just even experiencing it through someone else's trauma!

JenLindleyShitMom · 11/12/2016 13:48

Was she drunk? She sound like an absolute tool. Not sure why you were confronting her over it though.

SnatchedPencil · 11/12/2016 13:50

A lot of people mimic accents, sometimes they intend it to be racist and sometimes it is just meant as a joke. Even "nice" people often seem to have a certain "voice" they use when quoting what their child or partner said.

Everyone has a different sense of humour. (Some people actually LIKE Mrs Brown's Boys ffs.) If your voice sounds "posh" to her she probably thinks there is nothing wrong in pointing it out - and nothing wrong in you being "posh".

I don't get the "I'm great at wanking" comment, we'd need to know more about the context. It would be an unusual ice-breaker but as I've already said, people have different senses of humour.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 11/12/2016 14:02

SnatchedPencil, you've just really made me laugh.

KurriKurri · 11/12/2016 14:24

What does good at wanking even mean ? How does one compare ?

It sounds like the sort of bizarre remark my XH would make in a wild attempt at humour. 'Shift yer fuckin' arse' in a Glaswegian accent was one of his expressions - often said to total strangers, while I moused along behind him saying 'I'm so sorry, he means 'excuse me'

Bambambini · 11/12/2016 14:37

I have family and friends from Brissie - some are rather brash (like cast members from cell block H - original show)

Bambambini · 11/12/2016 14:40

And I've really had the piss taken out of my accent in Brisbane by lots of folk - as apparently they don't have an a accent.

Hyperhelpmum · 11/12/2016 15:21

Thanks, have chuckled and giggles through this. To explain fully she said to him 'you think I'm a wanker don't you? By the way I'm great at wanking' She had recently pushed him in a pool and bust his phone. I confronted her for making my 6 yr old ds cry with a comment about how shite England is compared to Oz. She has also told Ds that his dad smokes (he's an occasional social smoker and hides it from our dc) What gets me is when I confronted her it was all tears and how much she 'cared for me and all my family' and did I really think she had come onto my husband (who she has described to me a physically beautiful man) she told me she's had terrible anxiety and been crying nonstop because I misunderstood her and she can't bear to hurt anyone's feelings. She also announced at a social gathering that our ds had kissed a boy in their class and her son had said back off buddy and then laughed. To me that's humiliating and mean. Not that I give a rats shit if my son is gay but just to tell us in front of a group of strangers and thoroughly enjoy my husband's face and following silence. I just think bitch and am glad I've finally told her. Just wanted to check no one thought it could actually be me being too sensitive and a cultural thing. I'm pretty well travelled and have never been spoken to like this before. Urgh. She makes me shudder.

Eugh! She sounds utterly bonkers!

I think the light laugh and "What are you like?" might be the only thing you ever say to her, ever, ever again!

That and "Pay this" for the broken phone! She is an out and out bully. A pathetic one, but a bully nonetheless!

toffeeboffin · 11/12/2016 15:41

She sounds one to avoid.

OzzieFem · 11/12/2016 15:45

Was she sniffing glue before the party?

Olddear · 11/12/2016 15:47

well, nice to have a hobby I suppose....

HerRoyalNotness · 11/12/2016 15:58

you think I'm a wanker don't you? By the way I'm great at wanking

If you'd put that full sentence in OP it would have made much more sense. She is a wanker, and is a good one, based on all the things you've said she's done.

StrangeLookingParasite · 11/12/2016 16:25

She sounds like a fucking bitch, frankly, regardless of nationality.

RortyCrankle · 11/12/2016 16:29

Next time she says something inappropriate put a sympathetic look on your face and say its obvious that she has an inferiority complex but would she please try hard not to show it by mocking your speech or any other part of your life and end with a fake sympathetic smile.

pipsqueak25 · 11/12/2016 16:30

i still think it's her day job though Grin, oh, and "if you don't like our country..."
