To make a bedtime flask of tea?

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 10/12/2016 23:13

I'm a single mum and really miss the pleasure of having a cuppa brought to me in bed. It's really a simple pleasure that I used to enjoy.

So tomorrow morning I can have a rare lie in, and DS now seems to stay in his pit forever until woken.

I've made myself a cuppa in a flask and a tray with my cup, some digestives and my book. So in the morning I can enjoy a brew, and a read without getting up!

I feel a bit silly now though. Xmas Blush

This seems like a splendid idea to me. I'm going to do the same with a flask of coffee.

Grumpyoldblonde · 10/12/2016 23:15

Silly? You are a genius, so simple, yet so brilliant. Am doing this tonight, ☺

StStrattersOfMN · 10/12/2016 23:16

I do this when I'm ill, so I don't have to keep getting up. Why on earth it never occurred to me to make a morning one is beyond me. It is genius.

Question is, just how big a flask is reasonable?

Bijouxxx · 10/12/2016 23:17

What a brilliant idea OP!!

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 10/12/2016 23:17

Yay!

Just realised I've left the bloody flask downstairs. Grin

I keep a travel kettle and vending cups of coffee in my bedroom for this very purpose.

321zerobaby · 10/12/2016 23:18

Will it still be hot in the morning? I take a flask of soup to work and stand it on the radiator so its still hot by lunchtime (but its a stainless steel one, not the glass ones as I always smash them). If so then yes its a great idea.

doomf · 10/12/2016 23:19

Brilliant Idea!! Make sure you take a hot water bottle too. Perfect night in!

Anyone else got any great bedtime ideas? Smile

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 10/12/2016 23:20

Love your style Excuse.

I long for the Goblin Teasmaid of old. But I think a flask seems easier somehow.

Stratters I don't think there's a limit on size! How big a flask can you get?

I think it's genius! So obvious, yet I've never thought of it!

HeadElf · 10/12/2016 23:21

You, my dear, are a genius Brew

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 10/12/2016 23:22

I've got a steel one, I've warmed it up first and I'll add the milk in the morning.

I've got underfloor heating so sadly no radiator to maintain the temp.

Doing this tonight!! Also taking up fruit bowl so I can distract boys with noms when they wake and enjoy a cup of tea 😃😃😃 ineedmore genius!!!

FadedRed · 10/12/2016 23:26

I've been doing this with coffee for thirty++ years. I'm on my fifth or sixth flask! Just seemed like a good idea not to have to go downstairs to make a drink and saved me a few minutes in the morning.
Don't like tea from an overnight flask though, doesn't taste so good as fresh. Coffee's fine though, especially if you don't take milk.

Scottishthreeberry16 · 10/12/2016 23:27

I do this all the time. It's not hugely hot by morning but it s better than having to go downstairs and make one.

AlpacaLypse · 10/12/2016 23:28

Genius!

Enjoy your lie in Grin

StStrattersOfMN · 10/12/2016 23:29

I've got a massive family sized one, I reckon that, and a packet of biscuits, will keep me going until lunchtime.

So glad I got a cat flap put in for MouseDog, he lets himself out.

Krampus · 10/12/2016 23:30

What is the recommend heat time on the flask? They do vary. It's warm this week but maybe wrap it in another blanket. Nothing wrong with making life easier but make sure it does work long term Xmas Smile Experiment, sometimes tea then uht added later could work. Or just do the water in a flask and wrap it, then do the tea bag and uht milk.

If it doesn't meet your needs. Small kettle upstairs, tea bag, uht milk. Done.

icy121 · 10/12/2016 23:31

Until I lost my £22 thermos travel mug Angry (it's at work SOMEWHERE) I did this too at weekends, especially when I was going to bed after drinking wine!

BackforGood · 10/12/2016 23:32

Hmmm. YANBU to make a hot beverage for the morning - indeed, sounds like an excellent plan if your flask is up to the task of keeping it hot enough for 8 or 9 hours, but YABU to make tea. Tea out of a flask never tastes right. You should definitely have made coffee . Brew

officerhinrika · 10/12/2016 23:32

Another travel kettle owner here. I have to take a lot of pills in the morning and it's so much nicer with tea. I use an insulated travel cup to take milk up and have a a special box for teabags on the bedside tableGrin. Luxury.

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 10/12/2016 23:32

Feeling decidedly less silly now, and also less like Ebenezer Scrooge.

Well we'll see how the tea tastes in the morning. I'm hoping yes, the idea of not getting up will overrule a slightly colder brew.

If not then I'll change my pressie request to a Teasmaid from DP this year.

He gets up ridiculously early in the mornings when he stays so a brew is out of the question from him. And his tea making attempts are slightly disastrous (Portuguese and strictly a coffee drinker).

Sleep well tea suppin' Vipers BrewBrewBrew

This is why I want another teasmade, I had one as a teenager and would love another.

SaucyJack · 10/12/2016 23:36

Don't you have to get up for a wee first thing?

Cristiane · 10/12/2016 23:36

This is a fantastic idea
Though I know the moment I try it one of my dd's will decide not to sleep in..
