To be mildly irritated by most tiring job ever?

A friend who is a teacher has been saying how exhausted she is, and that only other teachers would understand. She is not joking. AIBU to be mildly irritated by this? Yes teachers do a hard job, but there are other jobs that are also exhausting.

It could get tedious after a while. Teachers don't have the monopoly on exhaustion.

I'd say nursing / doctor, depending on the ward or specialist, is as tiring. Or anything with kids, so nursery nurses. My dh is a teacher. Finds it way more tiring than banking, which he used to do.

I have a friend who is a teacher. All term so moans about how busy she is and how tiring teaching is. Then in the holidays she's always smug about how much time she gets off?! It's tiresome.

I would imagine that teaching is a bit like zookeeping only instead of only having a few naughty monkeys which are confined to an enclosure, you have 30 which are free range

You also have the naughty monkeys parents to deal with and you have to teach them tricks.

Any job with reasonable amounts of stress and responsibility is going to be tiring. Teachers don't own the monopoly on tiredness

I'd find the endless moaning exhausting though

Working in an office is always going to be less tiring. Never done it but pretty sure coal mining would be exhausting. Physically tiring and you have to be careful or you will kill yourself and others.

I am an HCA in wards and A&E and I'm exhausted in my job as well and I'm not even full time

On my feet for hours, none stop. Lots of heavy physical work. Emotionally draining at times. Hardly time to catch my breath.

Teachers are not alone with being tired at work. However, what one person finds exhausting another person might find ok.

It's stupid to claim any job is the most tiring ever, it's depends on the person.

It is exhausting, 12 hour days etc, got home last night after parents evening at 9.30...blah, blah, blah. But, we don't have the monopoly on exhaustion, my DD is a nurse and works long hours, and I'm in awe of her. And she doesn't get half the holidays I do.

There's definitely a moral / martyr thing that goes on with some people. Like being worn out by hard work means one is a Good Person and a bit Better Than Others. That pisses me off.
Teachers work their arses off in the main. But no need for her to make a massive deal of it.

I am fine with people moaning about how tired work makes them. But there are a number of exhausting jobs out there.

I have a very exhausting job which requires me to work very closely with teachers. I do not envy their job requirements but we always have a little joke at holiday time when they wish me a nice holiday. I do not get school holidays off but this does not mean I do not think it is well deserved and very much needed. I have a large case load with some large families however I have never had to be 'crowd control' for 30 children over several hours a day whilst trying to teach to the current cirriculum.
I also very much doubt any one out side the public sector is micro-managed to the extent teachers and other child care workers are. My job is to ensure children are safe which increasingly seems to mean spending my working hours producing paper work which reaches a greater height than the child in question . Occasionally I sneak out of the office and see the child and their family and endeavour to undertake life-changing work. However this creates several hours of form filling!

Them 6 weeks summer holidays must be a right pain

This is probably the shittiest term of the year. Teachers aren't this exhausted all the time, but right now everyone at my school is hanging on by the skin of their teeth.

Playing martyr as teaching is the most tiring job - she needs to get a grip.

Our surgeon worked on our son in theatre for over 5 hours, plus seeing us before and after. He had clinic or other reviews etc rest of the day. Even when he goes home and not on call he picks up texts and calls from his registrars about his patients and will drop them a text just to check in. Even on work trips abroad he's always available. He literally had my sons guts and life in his hands, emotional parents to deal with, a team to lead etc.
There's also a ton of low paid manual labour jobs in crappy conditions where they are on their feet all day for little financial recompense.

Your friend needs perspective

I know someone similar. Also a job doesn't have to be physically exerting to make you exhausted.

Got several friends that are teachers they do work very hard (including in their 'holidays')

However, I've been a nurse, factory worker, retail worker, and administrator. The only one that wasn't knackering was admin. Nursing the most, also twelve hour+ days on your feet all day, rarely chance for a loo break let alone food or drink! And that's not including split shifts where supposedly you've got a break of a few hours but it's hard to switch off fully mentally. Gimme straight 12 hour nights any day!

I was going to say Nursing must be at least as bad, especially working in A&E. And no long holidays either.

MommaGee 5 hours is fairly average, some surgeries can go on 10/12 hours and of course its not just the surgeon its nurses, anaesthetists, scrub techs etc

All the (primary) teachers I know are the same. Hardest job in the world, apparently

What I find odd is if it's so difficult and horrendous and the hardest most exhausting job in the world with shit pay, why have none of them gone back to their old jobs in PR, recruitment, HR etc with 23 days off a year 8.30-6 office hours and 2-3 hours a day commuting into central London - OH WELL I guess we'll NEVER KNOW.

It really is exhausting. And mentally as well as physically.
