To dislike the Christmas jumper day

My school are doing it. I know it's optional but let's face it, there's pressure even from adults to conform.

It's to support a local worthy charity but wouldn't it be so much better if we could give £1 to the charity and save however much on buying a stupid jumper?

Just put tinsel on a jumper she already owns?

wintersbranches · 07/12/2016 16:15

Haha it's for me not my daughter but this is strictly not allowed - we have been told in assembly!

Bah fucking humbug. I bet your DC loves having a miserable mum

Believeitornot · 07/12/2016 16:17

Draw on a top? Ask around if anyone has one?

Bit late now but I pick a cheap one up post Xmas sales and wheel it out every year.

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/12/2016 16:18

this is strictly not allowed Why?

formerbabe · 07/12/2016 16:18

I bought my dc huge jumpers...this will be the third year they've worn them Grin

Personally I wouldn't be seen dead in a bloody Christmas jumper.

Sparlklesilverglitter · 07/12/2016 16:18

Stick some baubles and a a Santa face on a cheap jumper!

I love a Christmas jumper, how could anyone not? It's Christmas 🎄 🎄⛄️️⛄️️🎅🎅 put a smile on your face

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/12/2016 16:19

Bah fucking humbug. I bet your DC loves having a miserable mum And that was fully in the Christmas spirit? Goodwill to all men, anyone?

smEGGnogg · 07/12/2016 16:20

Our local market stalls sell them dead cheap. Yes they are likely to scratch and itch most of the day and for God sake don't take the chance of walking by a naked flame, but at least they are cheap and useful in this situation.

RalphSteadmansEye · 07/12/2016 16:20

It's an ethical disaster.

Buy a sweatshop produced naff jumper for a tenner and then bring in a pound for charities which support children who work in sweatshops. The irony.

TheNaze73 · 07/12/2016 16:21

YANBU. I love Christmas however, the recent ironic jumper phenomenon is wank

SerialReJoiner · 07/12/2016 16:21

I resent the forced participation aspect of it, as it is a very particular item that can't really be worn other times of year. I managed to scrounge up a few from charity shops for my dc this year, but I'll have to buy some in the sales for next year.

madein1995 · 07/12/2016 16:22

Theres some nice ones in tesco atm, cheap and a lovely fabric. Nice to get into the spirit

AnyFarrahFowler · 07/12/2016 16:22

"Strictly not allowed"?!
Wow. Why?!

At my school we've said Christmas jumpers OR "Christmas colours" - so essentially non uniform and you can come in something red/green/gold/sparkly etc that you already own.

EatTheCake · 07/12/2016 16:23

We love the Christmas jumper day here,

I always wear my mine to work as does DH. My teens make there own for school now- just a plain jumper and they decorate with pens/baubles/tinsel etc

It's Christmas, your wearing a jumper for charity nobody has asked you to leave the house naked

NatashaRomanov · 07/12/2016 16:24

Sorry, they have explicitly said you are not allowed to simply decorate a jumper you already own? That you have to wear a shop-bought christmas jumper?
Fuck that for a game of soldiers! They cannot dictate how you spend your own money.
Just take in your donation and wear what you usually would. Hate these sort of demands.

My daughter has a 'festive jumper' day at the end of term. I will tack some tinsel and spare baubles to a jumper she already owns. Not paying out for something she will wear for maybe two weeks, and will have outgrown next year!

BiddyPop · 07/12/2016 16:27

A fashion designer/creator of my acquaintance has, when she forgot the requirement to attend a social gathering with a Christmas Jumper theme in the past, got home from work, pulled on a plain red jumper, got a tube of pritt stick, and stuck on cotton wool balls in the shape of a snowman and snowscene to the front.

That was very well received.

DramaInPyjamas · 07/12/2016 16:28

I hate the fact that it has become the norm and is expected and you are made to be some sort of humbug if you don't participate - not everyone can afford, or wants to spend on a jumper they only get to wear once or twice

Pop some tinsel on a hair band if they want you looking festive? Or is all homemade a strict no-no?

wintersbranches · 07/12/2016 16:29

Hey, did no one read my post?

Confused

I don't have children and it has to be a CHRISTMAS jumper. No drawing on tops or draping tinsel around.

Ok they don't cost a fortune but still a good £10-20 which is a lot out of a budget especially if you've more than one child!

OP posts:
wintersbranches · 07/12/2016 16:30

Yes, it has to be a Christmas jumper. I guess they are trying to stop children just turning it into non school uniform day

OP posts:
MrsTerryPratchett · 07/12/2016 16:31

No drawing on tops or draping tinsel around. Some of us got that... But why? What's their reasoning? They like sweatshops? They have shares in a market stall? Why?

wintersbranches · 07/12/2016 16:33

I think it's to stop children turning it into a non school uniform day. It just seems mean as some children won't be able to afford to take part which will be quite embarrassing.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 07/12/2016 16:37

I have a lovely jumper with a scottie dog on it, I also have pound shop santa hats to go on wine bottles yes yes I know I pin one of these on its head and voila... an xmas jumper!

monsterbookofty · 07/12/2016 16:41

I agree with you. I have to buy two new Christmas jumpers at about £14 each for literally one day. I can not afford it and the money will come out of our food shopping money. If I don't do it I will be classed as a 'miserable mum' as mentioned up thread!

wintersbranches · 07/12/2016 16:42

It's rubbish monster I am really sorry. I was thinking that a few parents will have more than one child at the school and it's really going to be a struggle for them.
