To dislike the Christmas jumper day

My school are doing it. I know it's optional but let's face it, there's pressure even from adults to conform.

It's to support a local worthy charity but wouldn't it be so much better if we could give £1 to the charity and save however much on buying a stupid jumper?

thinking along my pound shop theme, surely an adult santa hat could be pinned or sewn onto a plain jumper and still look authentic ? or a pound shop felt stocking?

Trifleorbust · 07/12/2016 17:15

Just wear your normal clothes.

wintersbranches · 07/12/2016 17:30

Yes, but Trifle it isn't about me. It's about children.

OP posts:
Trifleorbust · 07/12/2016 17:33

Oh I see. Well, it is optional. I think you are making a bit of a fuss about nothing tbh.

deepdarkwood · 07/12/2016 17:36

Is the school fundraising in aid of save the children which is the 'official' Christmas jumper day? If so their FAQs specifically say you don't have to buy a jumper - could you look them up & say a concerned parent brought them to your attention? My sister works at StC and they very much encourage made rather than bought jumpers.

wintersbranches · 07/12/2016 17:36

What, starting a thread is "making a fuss"? :)

As I'm sure you know it never feels very nice to be the 'odd one out' and young people often feel that the most. This means you're either the only one in school uniform or more likely parents feel pressured to spend money they don't necessarily have on a novelty item.

OP posts:
wintersbranches · 07/12/2016 17:36

No, it's a local (very worthy) charity.

OP posts:
Trifleorbust · 07/12/2016 17:37

It is an AIBU thread. You asked.

wintersbranches · 07/12/2016 17:38

Yes, and I'm answering :)

OP posts:
Trifleorbust · 07/12/2016 17:39

That just means you already believed yourself to be reasonable and you weren't interested in what anyone has to say about it even when you posted.

OP: AIBU?
Poster: Yes
OP: No way.

Hmm
teenagewoes · 07/12/2016 17:41

Yes they're hideous - wouldn't wear one if you paid me although have some fetching glittery reindeer antlers. My DD now 16 - came home in year 7 and announced at 9pm she needed a Christmas jumper - for tomorrow! Cue several hours of fashioning a fur fabric appliqué snowman complete with felt hat and doll's knitted scarf onto the front of an existing jumper. Will never do that again Wink

wintersbranches · 07/12/2016 17:42

Do you feel very clever now, Trifle?

The above works if everyone has said I'm being U, but they haven't.

I was actually wondering about how parents had found it - at least one has said she struggles.

Your point would be less rude if it had any relevance.

OP posts:
Trifleorbust · 07/12/2016 17:44

wintersbranches: No, it works when you are sitting there arguing with a poster in a quite confrontational manner simply for answering your question in a way you don't like. It's my opinion that you're making a fuss. I am entitled to that opinion. I find it a bit odd that you would argue with it in this way, since you did ask.

wintersbranches · 07/12/2016 17:45

I'm not arguing Trifle; you're the one causing the confrontation to be honest. I don't know why you're being so rude unless you have a job manufacturing Christmas jumpers or something :)

OP posts:
ShatnersBassoon · 07/12/2016 17:45

I say sod that rule and put some tinsel and baubles on something you have already. I'd also encourage the pupils to do the same.

What are they going to do? Put you in detention?

AuntJane · 07/12/2016 17:45

Try the local charity shops.

Trifleorbust · 07/12/2016 17:46

I'm not being rude. You asked. I answered.

wintersbranches · 07/12/2016 17:47

I don't know Shatners - probably would make the pupils go home and get changed.

Aunt I'd imagine they'd be snatched off the shelves this time of year though not in January! Xmas Smile

wintersbranches · 07/12/2016 17:47

Okay Trifle but seriously unless you've something new to add, can you give it a rest?

OP posts:
SVJAA · 07/12/2016 17:47

We've just had 2 days notice of Christmas Jumper day, which pisses me off a bit because I now need to get 3 Christmas jumpers this week on top of all the baking I've (willingly) done for nursery/school and the Christmas hamper for charity. So in total this week we've spent upwards of £100 for school/nursery contributions which isn't ideal this close to christmS.

SVJAA · 07/12/2016 17:48

Christmas, not christmS

wintersbranches · 07/12/2016 17:48

That's loads and must be a nightmare for families struggling.

OP posts:
Trifleorbust · 07/12/2016 17:48

Give what a rest? Replying to you when you are engaging me on your own thread? Hmm

bobbinpop · 07/12/2016 17:48

winter yes!! I have to buy 2 and I don't have much spare cash. They've grown out of last year's jumpers. It's not money well spent at all and I resent it! I think it's a made up thing that can't be dressed up as a tradition, and I hate the idea of children feeling left out too.

wintersbranches · 07/12/2016 17:49

I think if they have to do it then accept just non school uniform day with a Christmas twist but I'm annoyed at the draconian way my school is implementing it, and I bet they'll make any non participating child feel bad too.
