Please don't give me shit!
Think of the desperation I feel.
Ttc no 2 for over 2 years now. I had a gynaecology appointment 4 months ago and the consultant I spoke to said if I can get hold of clomid then this will increase my chances. She said it as a passing comment. Fast forward to now I have got hold of some 50mg tabs and considering taking them as I'm due on my period tmrw.
I KNOW iabu but I've read up loads on it and I'm just so desperate now?!?

At least chat to your GP first. You know you shouldn't love and totally get you are desperate.

crashdoll · 06/12/2016 12:26

I understand your pain and hear you but yes, you would BU.

You know YABU but I sympathise. I had several cycles of Clomid and with the first dose and the first new dose I had ultrasounds to make sure I wasn't hyperovulating as a response.
AFAIK it will only help if you're not ovulating (which I wasn't, thanks to PCOS). If infertility is down to other causes it won't help and might make things worse by thinning endometrium etc.
Do you have a follow-up appointment with the gynae lined up?

AnyFucker · 06/12/2016 12:34

If your gynaecological consultant thought clomid was appropriate for you, I don't understand why he/she didn't prescribe it

It's not something you "get your hands on" like the latest gadget or something

BlueCandle12 · 06/12/2016 12:37

The gynaecologist consultant was from South Asia and mentioned to me that many ladies there take this if there struggle to conceive so kind of recommended it but didn't if you know what I mean. I only have a 50mg dose which is low.
I'm still in 2 minds if to take it or not

As I also am from the south Asian region I also have found it relatively easy to get hold off

No. Don't do it. You need to be monitored carefully.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 06/12/2016 12:52

If you have been TTC for over 2 years can't you get your GP to refer you to a specialist.

AnyFucker · 06/12/2016 17:16

50mg is the standard starting dose so not "low" at all

GuessHowMuchILoveGin · 06/12/2016 17:22

Do you understand the implications of taking it when you are not being monitored by a fertility team?

GuessHowMuchILoveGin · 06/12/2016 17:23

You said that you'd read loads so perhaps you do, but I would advise pretty strongly against taking it.

TaraCarter · 06/12/2016 17:25

No. Don't.

Women taking clomid are monitored very carefully, because if clomid use goes wrong, it can go really wrong. We're talking severe pain, and the worst case scenarios include losing an ovary and death.

ElfOnMyShelf · 06/12/2016 17:28

My understanding was that it could prevent ovulation in someone who was already ovulating. So that needs to be checked first.

Talk to your gp before taking it.

gttob · 06/12/2016 17:29

I did, had some left after dd1. The result was my now ten year old dd2.

GrimDamnFanjo · 06/12/2016 17:29

Do not do it. I had 6 chlomid cycles. You need the correct dosage and to be monitored. It is normally quite unpleasant to take with no guarantee of success. More than 9 doses can increase your chances of ovarian cancer iirc.

bummymummy77 · 06/12/2016 17:33

My doc won't let me do more than 3 cycles. And you get closely watched. I accidentally got given 6 extra months doses but only for a split second thought about using them.

bummymummy77 · 06/12/2016 17:49

Elf I hope that isn't the case as I am defiantly ovulating!!!! Confused

bummymummy77 · 06/12/2016 17:50

Definitely lol. There's nothing defiant about my crappy eggs.

facepalming · 06/12/2016 17:53

yabu. I was monitored very closely while on clomid it's not to be taken lightly the effects it can have.

I still do the understand why your consultant didn't prescribe it If they thought it would help?

Lazyafternoon · 06/12/2016 17:57

Don't do it.
I've been taking it and there are side effects. I'm also closely monitored and God knows how many scans and blood tests to check if working and if hyperovulating etc. Like others have said if it was appropriate for you then why didn't you get it prescribed?

AnyFucker · 06/12/2016 17:59

If you are definitely ovulating then clomid is not indicated

bummymummy77 · 06/12/2016 18:04

Really anyfucker? Maybe I should seek another opinion from my on gyn.

I don't have the greatest confidence in her when she prescribed it without even asking if I'd been charting temps and doing ovulation tests.

And no mention of getting dh's sperm tested until I pushed for it as 'it's probably going to be you'. Hmm

bummymummy77 · 06/12/2016 18:04

Sorry for thread derail!!

ChocolateDoll · 06/12/2016 18:07

Pfft. My GP happily prescribed me Clomid with no close monitoring or follow ups of any sort.
We knew I was ovulating, but she just said take it for the first few days of your cycle and see how it goes.
And guess what? Worked first time. DD is 8 Smile
