Please don't give me shit!
Think of the desperation I feel.
Ttc no 2 for over 2 years now. I had a gynaecology appointment 4 months ago and the consultant I spoke to said if I can get hold of clomid then this will increase my chances. She said it as a passing comment. Fast forward to now I have got hold of some 50mg tabs and considering taking them as I'm due on my period tmrw.
I KNOW iabu but I've read up loads on it and I'm just so desperate now?!?

That sounds like crap advice, tbh, bummy. Get another opinion.

Clomid is only for if you are not ovulating. And a simple sperm test for your partner is certainly a good idea before you should even consider manipulating your own cycles with potent drugs.

quicklydecides · 06/12/2016 18:11

OP you could take it and it might work out ok as in no complications for you.
It might even work out great as in a baby!
Bit it could work out badly as in complications for you and needing to be admitted to hospital
So please, just go back to a consultant.
Go privately, they might be less rule-bound and more likely to prescribe it.
But if it is indicated, then they'll prescribe it surely!!

ClassmateHB · 06/12/2016 18:12

Clomid should only be prescribed once other tests are done - eg HSG to check tubes, blood tests to check ovulation, sperm tests on partner. It is not a wonder drug, it is dangerous if used incorrectly and for too long. I was lucky I fell pregnant on it, but I was very nearly hospitalised with hyperovarian syndrome which can be dangerous. You shouldnt ever take it without being monitored.

bummymummy77 · 06/12/2016 18:14

Hmm, I'll seek other advice. She also told me they'd be wanting to schedule me in for an early c section due to my age and he high risk of still birth. I took the clomid and ran!

HopefulHamster · 06/12/2016 18:14

I was given three months worth by a U.K. Fertility consultant (referred by GP) and they gave me no monitoring at all. Didn't work, mind.

AnyFucker · 06/12/2016 18:15

There are some cases where it might be indicated for ovulating women eg. those with a short luteal phase but unless you have been properly evaluated you would not know that.

AnyFucker · 06/12/2016 18:16

is this in the UK, bummy ?

user1468353179 · 06/12/2016 18:17

A friend's daughter almost died from over stimulation of the ovaries while taking Clomid from the fertility clinic. Be very careful.

AnyFucker · 06/12/2016 18:18

btw, I am a Clomid success x 2 but I was definitely not ovulating. It was not straightforward though.... I was overstimulated and I had a couple of miscarriages too.

bummymummy77 · 06/12/2016 18:25

No in the states. I think it's meant to make my crappy old eggs stronger.

Although it does make me nervous that I won't have any scans. Just the 21 progesterone test then he provea shot.

everythingtoplayfor · 06/12/2016 18:26

I get where you're coming from. Have you been referred to a fertility clinic, will they give it to you? I would also be tempted in your position, if I took it without the NHS I would at least get a private scan before ovulation to see what's what. If you have released 6 eggs at least you'd know and can avoid getting pregnant.

AnyFucker · 06/12/2016 18:26

how old are you, bummy ?

ElfOnMyShelf · 06/12/2016 18:33

I remember seeing professor winston on this morning doing a fertility phone in. If I remember rightly, clomid was originally developed as a contraceptive as it stopped ovulation. But obviously it had a happy side affect they soon realised.
He had quite strong views on doctors just dishing it out and not monitoring it.

honeylulu · 06/12/2016 18:34

Clomid doesn't improve egg quality though. It just makes you more likely to ovulate if you don't and to ovulate more than one egg in a cycle. Rates of miscarriage are higher in Clomid pregnancies perhaps because the drug forces you're body to ovulate eggs it would reabsorb as no good if a normal cycle.
I conceived several times on clomid- once twins- but miscarried every time.

Bless you I know how miserable it is trying and trying. I did eventually conceive (naturally) and ended up with a baby!

AnyFucker · 06/12/2016 18:34

Ok. At 39, you don't have too much time to be messing about with treatments that are unlikely to work. No harm in a 2nd opinion, I think

bummymummy77 · 06/12/2016 18:34

Yes op, where I am they advise a scan beforehand to your ovaries seem in healthy condition before you start. Not sure if this is the same in the UK.

Hello,

I am trying to conceive after a misscarriage. I have PCOS and have extremely irregular cycle ranging 34-53 days.
I was always charting my bbt and i can say that i have always ovulated.
This month after a long cycle of 51days, my doctor has prescribed clomid 50 mg cycle day2-6, my day21 progesterone came less then 1 so didn’t ovulated. But its cycle day 45 and no period infact no sign of ovulation as my temperature is still low.

I observed spotting multiple times during cycle but spotted a little heavy from cycle day 37-42 but nothing like periods.
Extremely frustated and tensed, has anybody experienced this with clomid?
Does clomid causes late ovulation or will cause any adverse impact ?

Please suggestSad

@TTC01 you'd be better off starting a new thread in a relevant topic, there is a Conception topic and one for miscarriage and pregnancy loss where people might be able to help.
