Baby Changing bags

Member33874 · 05/12/2016 14:12

Hi guy's, I'm 31 and I am struggling to find a baby bag that looks good and one bae can wear too, one that looks like a fashion bag (I had to make do with baby no1). Does anyone else fell like they're making do with their baby bag and just bought the best out of a bad looking bunch?

Jojo maman Bebe sell babymel and there's a 15% discount code around at the moment.

notbobmarley · 05/12/2016 14:36

I got one of these
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Boo-Moi-Lightweight-Waterproof-Cushioned/dp/B011UHOHTG/ref=sr119aait?ie=UTF8&qid=1480948445&sr=8-9&keywords=Change+mat
Can put it in any bag you like then no need to limit your self on a nice bag

BumWad · 05/12/2016 14:37

Plim-

It was overly big, the leather marked easy, it was heavy. When I first bought it I thought it was THE best changing bag out there. I just wouldn't bother spending that much money anymore but treat myself to a proper bag once baby is older.

I have one of these now:

Just get any kind of bag you want. I used a small rucksack at first and then just chucked nappies and wipes in a slightly bigger handbag.

RentANDBills · 05/12/2016 14:53

OP, you know Bae is Danish for "poo", right?

FlyingElbows · 05/12/2016 14:55

Bae? I didn't think anyone said that in real life. That's such a wannabe ghetto Facebook teen horror word.

Tiredtomybones · 05/12/2016 14:55

DH used the free one from Boots. That has a really good sized change mat in it that I've kept in the house for friends to use when they visit with babies, even though our use for it has long passed. I had one with insulated pockets and all the gizmos, can't remember what brand, and I did find it useful as all my DC have been formula fed and I could take bottles and milk cartons out easily.

ItsALLAboutMeMeMeMeME · 05/12/2016 15:00

Just buy a roomy bag with pockets and compartments or put in the appropriate inserts and dividers. Dedicated baby bags are a ridiculous concept, none of them are particularly attractive and carrying a separate handbag too? I never got the concept of dedicated laptop bags either btw so I'm not picking on Mums with young babies. Plus, it's like Parkinson's Law for time only in this case for stuff: i.e. the more room (bags) you have to accommodate stuff the more stuff you acquire to fill it.

I blame this principle for having somehow filled around 32 kitchen cabinets of which more than half remained empty when we unpacked after moving in less than 8 months ago!

UterusUterusGhali · 05/12/2016 15:06

YABU for using "bae" at the age of 31. Grin

Just use a rucksack or messenger bag. Or your DP could get his own. You can get fold-up, waterproof changing mats that'll go in any bag.

The most important thing is choosing one that'll go on the handles of your pushchair ime.

ncayley115 · 05/12/2016 15:13

We have the Momma Moo one . £35 from John Lewis. Plain black so hubby doesn't mind taking it out and very good hardwearing quality. DS is 22 months now and I would buy the same bag again.

TheGrandTourOfMyArse · 05/12/2016 15:36

I spent a fortune on a huge leather changing bag, complete with lined pockets for bottles, a big compartment for nappies and two or three changes of clothes, a folding changing mat and filled it with everything I thought I could possibly need. It was like carting a suitcase around with me everywhere I went and when I hung it on the back of the pram it tipped it up whenever I took ds out. It also fell apart after a few months so I bought ds a toddler's rucksack with a big picture of Thomas the Tank on the front (he was only 7 months old but needed a bag for nursery). It was tiny but had enough room for the basic essentials, it was cheap (I think I only spent a fiver) and it was much easier to carry. When dd came along I just stuffed her stuff in the same rucksack until she needed her own.
I think there's a whole industry aimed at marketing 'essentials' for new parents in an attempt to get them to spend an arm and a leg when in reality you don't actually need most of it.

Spudlet · 05/12/2016 15:40

lol at bae Grin

I bought a game bag and use that. Big and roomy, hardwearing and cheap enough that I'm quite happy dropping it on the floor in public toilets. I have various smaller bags (toilet and makeup bags that came free with stuff mainly) that hold all the various bits so I'm never scrabbling around looking for stuff.

TheCaptainsCat · 05/12/2016 15:42

Bae Xmas Hmm

Personally I like both Oi Oi and Tiba and Marl changing bags.

ems137 · 05/12/2016 15:49

I've got the Storksak Elizabeth. It's a really nice looking leather bag, not babyish and my DH doesn't mind carrying it either! It's such good quality and will last years!

JustanotherMortificado · 05/12/2016 15:50

Bae? Thought you were 31 girlfriend.

Laiste · 05/12/2016 15:54

This is mine www.babymel.com/changing-bags/satchel-stripe-navy

Although DD4 is 2.8 now and i'm just using a ginormous furry river island normal handbag.

billabye · 05/12/2016 15:59

I like my Storksak Elizabeth.

DowntonDiva · 05/12/2016 15:59

(Sorry for the long link)

elliejjtiny · 05/12/2016 16:17

I just got a big bag with a strap from tkmaxx. When I had dc5 I treated myself to 2 of those insert things with the built in changing mat which I have to say were brilliant for keeping dc4 and dc5's nappies etc separate and not in a massive jumble.

baconandeggies · 05/12/2016 16:28

The free one from Boots.. change mat included, space for nappies, wipes, nappy sacks and a little toy or two - long strap - jobs a good'un.

WyfOfBathe · 05/12/2016 16:47

I've got a satchel-style one from Mothercare. It's khaki and brown so not too "girly" for DH to use.

OP, you know Bae is Danish for "poo", right? Yep, and "bite" is French for penis, so let's stop using that as well Hmm

ElphabaTheGreen · 05/12/2016 16:49

£135-£210 for A CHANGING BAG?!

You use them to carry shit-containment devices and puke rags.

Am I missing something? Do they come with nanny included?

WaitrosePigeon · 05/12/2016 16:49

What is a bae? Who is bae?

DailyMailCrap · 05/12/2016 16:50

They are so pretty though Elphaba
