AIBU to want is to sleep (permanently) in the living room?

Have posted elsewhere but posting here for traffic Grin less of a AIBU, more of a WWYD!!
So DP and I live in a 1 bed flat - we love it, rent is a good price and it's a good location for us both to get to work. We would like a 2 bed in a year or two but the difference in rent between a 1 & 2 bed is huge plus we'd struggle saving for a deposit, agency fees etc. DP has a daughter who's almost 4. Currently, our bedroom has the built in wardrobes, a chest of drawers, a double bed for us and a toddler bed for DSD. That's it. It's so cramped, DSD has to climb over our bed to get to hers. It's driving me mad it's so cluttered!! The obvious solution would be me and DP getting a sofa bed and sleeping in the lounge right? Wrong. We can't have a sofa!! We've had three delivered that had to be taken back because the delivery men couldn't get them in our tiny doorway. We ended up getting a wooden futon because it was flat packed so we knew we could get it in the door. We could sleep on this but it's soooo uncomfortable and such hard work pulling it out and putting it back up etc. AIBU to just get rid of the futon and buy a day bed with a trundle? Has anyone else used one as a sofa as well as a bed? Or a clic clac sofa bed? Are they ok for everyday use? Anyone else have any ideas? If we could get us in the lounge it would mean little one could actually play in the bedroom, have a reading corner, anything! Sighhhh

What about a triple bunk bed?

Libby34 · 05/12/2016 12:32

I've thought about them too but DP is dead against having a bunk bed Hmm a) "because he's a grown man" and b) DSD still gets up in the night sometimes so I think he's worried she'd fall if she was still half asleep or whatever and I kind of agree with him on that. So us sleeping in the living room seems to be the best option

I don't see why not, it's your space, use it as works for you.

AndNowItsSeven · 05/12/2016 12:34

How about the ikea hemnes day bed ? Very comfy as a bed but you would need lots of cushions to sit on as it's deep.

hooliodancer · 05/12/2016 12:38

We bought a flat pack sofa from Nabru. They also do sofa beds. It's not the most beautiful, but at least we could get a sofa in! You can pay for them to put it together, and we wish we had!

We have a day bed and trundle in our spare room. Guests say it's very comfortable to sleep on. If for everyday use you could put a good quality topper on it so you can't feel the join. We always use a fitted sheet (king size) too.To sit on, ours is quite high and would need lots of cushions to make it comfortable, as it's metal.

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 05/12/2016 12:41

Try this: www.nabru.co.uk/

We have two, they've lasted years and are brilliant!

Libby34 · 05/12/2016 12:43

Thank you! How comfy are the nabru sofa beds and do you think they'd be ok for every day use?

Newtoday that looks perfect thank you so much!! Do you have this? Is it comfy & suitable for sleeping every day?

My DH ended up building us a made to measure bed in our last tiny flat! We had what was basically a single bed bunk! It had a space under it which could hold a dressing table and some boxes with stuff in them.

Could you do that? You could pop the DD's bed under it.

baconandeggies · 05/12/2016 12:54

If the main problem is that the futon mattress is uncomfortable, you could buy a memory foam topper for it?

oldestmumaintheworld · 05/12/2016 13:01

Please don't get the IKEA friheten sofa bed. It is very uncomfortable to sleep on (and I can usually sleep anywhere).

Popskipiekin · 05/12/2016 13:02

Are there any other ways a sofa could get into your flat? We had small doorways and halls leading up to our 4th floor flat and had the same issue as you - so found someone who unpicked the living room window for us (literally took whole thing out of its frame) and winched the sofa up the outside of the flat through the window. Just a couple of blokes and some rope, no fancy platforms. Could this work...?

Crunchymum · 05/12/2016 13:03

How often is dsd with you?

Newtoday · 05/12/2016 13:13

I love the freiheten! I have it, as does an aunt, 3 grown up cousins...I'm always falling asleep on it!

I prefer a firm sleeping surface, and so it's perfect. You can store duvet, pillows, blankets etc. inside it during the day, so brilliant for your needs. Include a mattress topper if you prefer a softer sleep surface (perhaps this would help poster above) which can also be stored.

Can be build left or right handed corner, to suit your room, and comes in different colours!

Best couch I've ever had TBH!

AGirlsNameIsAryaStark · 05/12/2016 13:15

I have the sofa that Newtoday linked to, and have had a friend sleep on it every weekend for the last 2 years. It's done well, only thing I would suggest is Ikea do a topper type thing for it that I would get. It can be a uncomfortable where the joins are but the topper solves that. Its also really easy to get out and put away and comes with the added storage too!

AnnieAnoniMouse · 05/12/2016 13:18

I'd go for the double bed with the single bunk over the top. She's 4, she'll cope with that & you can get them with the side enclosed for most of the length.

It really is a monumental pain in the arse having a sofa bed permanently and crap if you're ill etc. They really aren't designed as permanent beds either so tend to become uncomfortable quickly.

We had a studio flat once, it was TINY. Once the bed was down you had to climb over it to get in/out of the room. We foolishly bought a futon that I was unable to make into a bed myself (didn't even think about that when buyingt it, it just seemed like the solution to getting it into the third floor studio) so when DP was on evenings or nights we had to do it before he went to work & I had to spend the evening climbing over the bed. Bathroom one side, kitchen the the other 😂

LivingOnTheDancefloor · 05/12/2016 13:49

DH and i slept on a clic clac sofa bed for years. Get a good quality mattress though.

Libby34 · 05/12/2016 13:52

That sofa sounds great, would definitely get a topper. Will show DP after work, seems like a great idea. I've thought about the window thing before but it worries me when thinking about when we move out! Think the ikea sofa sounds like our best bet. Thanks all! GrinGrin

And she's with us every weekend but I believe it'll be more often when she starts school Smile this way she can essentially have her own room (with the addition of mine & DP's clothes). Part of my worry is she's got quite a lot for xmas (we weren't able to get her very much for her birthday due to the move etc) so we've gone a bit over board for Christmas, was worried about where we'd put it all but if we can get rid our bed then there'll be loads more room for her toys etc in the bedroom Grin

Have a look at www.studybed.co.uk
My cousin has a miniscule studio flat and loves her Studybed.

Tissunnyupnorth · 05/12/2016 14:05

We bought the freiheten for sleepovers in the loft, for our teens.

They hate it, say it's very hard and uncomfortable as there is a gap between the sofa seat bit and the section you pull out. The worst thing is that the pull out bit keeps separating from the seat completely and has to be fixed back in most times we use it. I slept on it a week ago when my parents stayed, never again.

DailyMailCrap · 05/12/2016 14:26

Any of the ikea day beds. We had one in our flat that we converted to a sofa during the day with lots of cushions. they have drawers at the bottom to hide the duvet if needed.

FallenSky · 05/12/2016 14:32

We're currently sleeping on a friheten every night. We've added a thick memory foam topper and it's fine. There is a more expensive one at ikea, I can't remember the name but it looks like the friheten but has (from my hazy memory) a mattress as the seat cushions and is marketed for every night use.

kshaw · 05/12/2016 14:52

I got the Ikea friheten sofa bed - it comes in 2 sections to get up the stairs and pulls out into a really comfy sofa bed - was only £400 too and it's lovely! Highly recommend
