It is possible. It is.

I bought my children some jelly worms from MandS yesterday as a treat - as part of their 'free from' range. They ate some, and now i am eating some....

However, as i was doing so i noticed this thread and glanced at the back of the pack only to see 'beef gelatine'. What in the world is that doing in a sweetie! Sugar i can deal with as expected - animals i cant. urgh.

mummyhill · 15/02/2007 19:26

Actually they yhave reinstated beef/horse into bovril recently it is plastered all over the jars. Marmite and veggiemite are the yeast based ones. Asda are selling halal gummy sweets. Not sure of the price difference between them and normal gummies though sorry.

mummyhill · 15/02/2007 19:28

I really must read the whole thread before posting. Sorry to of repeated other peoples posts.

I like bovril on toast too.

Monkeytrousers · 15/02/2007 19:49

Really? My neighbour just got some and it said 'suitable for vegetarians' on it still.

Horse, you say? That's truly disgusting

pointydog · 15/02/2007 21:45

well, what did you think gave those sweets that tough gummy rubbery texture?

Was gonna be either plastic or gelatine

MrsJohnCusack · 15/02/2007 21:51

I'm telling you it's much worse over here in NZ - there are barely any yoghurts here that are free of gelatine (it's all halal though), cheese isn't generally vegetarian like it is in the UK, etc.

Same with sweets, but at least it stops me eating them

twelveyeargap · 15/02/2007 21:58

Yes, unreasonable. You might as well ask Cadbury to use carob instead of chocolate or ask Reeses to use another nut in their peanut butter cups. Choose another sweetie!

moondog · 15/02/2007 22:02

If you buy processed shit are you really surprised that it contains hidden shit though??

Monkeytrousers · 15/02/2007 22:02

I don't think I have anything to worry about the sensitivity of cocoa nuts nervous systems and their capacity for pain and terror

OP posts:
pointydog · 15/02/2007 22:33

mmmmmm... melted bones

twelveyeargap · 15/02/2007 22:41

You can object to animal products and give your opinion on it, but expecting a manufacturer to change its processes (which are perfectly legal and acceptable to the majority) to suit your beliefs is unreasonable.

You have the right not to buy the stuff, isn't that good enough?

SaucyMoo · 15/02/2007 22:52

They'd sell more products if they left the pork out, appeal to a muslim and veggy market so it would make more sense

kittylette · 15/02/2007 22:55

u being serious?? [gags]

SaucyMoo · 15/02/2007 23:44

kitty, who me?

ediemay · 16/02/2007 00:10

Am still recivering from finding out what cochineal is made from

moondog · 16/02/2007 08:27

So many of those weird diet foods have bad stuff in them too,to bulk them out and replace the fat.

It really does put you off your creme fraiche to know that threin lies a pig's trotter.

Although,if I had ordered a trotter,I would be delighted to get one.

I just want what I ask for.

The moral is......steer clear of processed food!

Monkeytrousers · 16/02/2007 17:29

If it would increase profits, why is it unreasonable?

They did it with Polos

Monkeytrousers · 16/02/2007 17:30

I am always emailing companies to make this suggestion!
I'm surprised that with the number of Muslim and also vegetarian jndividuals in this countey they arr literally cutting off millions of people who won't purchase their product due to gelatine!
Case in point....I'm desperate to try the rolo yoghurts!

pinotnoirismyjam · 26/09/2018 07:04

M&S do vegetarian Percy Pigs and Colin the Caterpillars and they're delish, especially the cola flavour Colins!

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 26/09/2018 07:12

YANBU. If M&S can make veggie Percy Pigs and Colin Caterpillars (and they're clearly popular given how the range has expanded) then Haribo could do the same.

Percy pigs etc are still gluten free - the gelatin is replaced with pectin.

MissMisery · 26/09/2018 14:38

M&S do a really good range of non gelatine chewy sweets. Chewy snakes, Percy pig type things etc. They actually say ‘I’m gelatine free!’ on the packet.
Really nice too 🙂

MissMisery · 26/09/2018 14:39

Oh I see someone beat me to that! Blush
Ooh yes the cola flavour Colins!! 😛

Maccycheesefries · 26/09/2018 14:41

I buy the veggie Haribos from Iceland and veggie marshmallows & jelly sweets from Holland and Barrett although they're ££.

MissMisery · 26/09/2018 14:44

Am still recivering from finding out what cochineal is made from

I’m afraid I have some bad news about Parmesan too.. 🤮
