Backstory.
I bought shoes from eBay, pretty cheap and so not expecting them to last over a year. I've been to China lots and so know the quality issues. They fell apart after 4 weeks.

I wrote to the seller. They offered a 5% refund. Then asked me to repair them, I explained this would cost more than the shoes, then a 10% refund. I've said full refund.

Now they've sent three emails saying half. I've taken it up with eBay.

I got this this morning.

Daddy does run factories

Stop it, you're killing me! Grin

Kirriemuir · 23/11/2016 08:05

If you wanted shoes to last you should have bought something else. If you've bought cheap disposable shoes then that's what you get.

FRETGNIKCUF · 23/11/2016 08:06

Sorry. Tone isn't working here.

Not too much slavery means no slavery that I've of. Clearly we all know that most products we buy has an element of slavery. All of us own a mobile phone.... so high horses are not well placed here.

Shoe manufacturing in china is not slavery like mining for minerals to make silicon chips.

WaitrosePigeon · 23/11/2016 08:06

I'd say 4 weeks is pretty good for cheap shoes from China.

JennyPocket · 23/11/2016 08:07

Personally I'd accept the half refund and move on (and not buy shoes from China on Ebay).

FRETGNIKCUF · 23/11/2016 08:07

Doesn't run factories.

Oh fuck it. It's too early.

My phone keeps missing out vital words.

I haven't heard of bad conditions in these shoes factories.

I'd just chalk it up to experience

Cheap shoes fall apart, well, yes they would Confused

OnionKnight · 23/11/2016 08:09

Cheap shoes should last longer than four weeks though.

Kirriemuir · 23/11/2016 08:09

Chinese human rights have been criticised for years. It's not a new thing.

Trifleorbust · 23/11/2016 08:10

Sarcasm aside, OP, how many reputable suppliers sell the type of shoes you have sourced for £28 over the Internet? I'm sure conditions in your dad's factories are fine, but I am equally sure his vendors don't send emails like that one. You must have known you were buying low quality, you got low quality, but you've had four weeks wear from what you got. Let it go.

Only1scoop · 23/11/2016 08:11

I'd just take the hit and buy some you can try on next time and see the quality.

PinkiePiesCupcakes · 23/11/2016 08:15

£28?

Should have gone to specsavers ASDA or Tesco.

HazelBite · 23/11/2016 08:18

You are lucky the shoes actually fitted you, I have bought two pairs of boots (via Amazon) recently that have come from china I am a size 6 (UK) one pair I received were so small, they actually turned out to be a size 2!
the other pair whilst bigger were still too small and I am a very small 6.
I got refunds for both

I've learnt my lesson from this and will only buy goods from china if they are distributed via a UK supplier.

Itsseweasy · 23/11/2016 08:23

Ignore the message and proceed with opening a Dispute (or whatever it's called) via eBay to get your money back in full.
I buy a lot of items from China and so does DH, and he recently received an almost identical message to yours when we received an item that broke upon the first use.
No need to continue the dialogue any further, if it is clear that they aren't offering to refund in full then PayPal will.
Why shouldn't you receive a refund for faulty goods?!

Megainstant · 23/11/2016 08:25

My father happens to run production for a large European shoe manufacturer in China. There's not too much slavery that goes on in shoe factories. It's much like here. People get mega rich paying workers next to nothing.

My father runs a factory in the UK. He is not mega rich, he hasn't had a holiday for 5 years and lives in a modest 3 bed house. The workers here get paid the living wage and have happy healthy lives, plus in work benefits and generous holiday. He's had some staff for over 40 years. But what he makes would cost you 10 times what a Chinese version would cost you.

We occasionally import goods to broaden the range. He doesn't buy Chinese goods as the factories are often awful and quality is poor.

Justwhy · 23/11/2016 08:32

I wouldn't think £28 was that cheap anyway for a pair of shoes depending on what they are!

ItShouldHaveBeenJingleJess · 23/11/2016 08:32

You'd be better off buying an almost new, or BNWT pair, for half the money.

My fave eBay message was from a lady who'd 'won' a bottle of Gucci Rush from me. It was super chirpy and pretty much said "Hi there! So so sorry! Got a bit caught up in the bidding excitement but can't afford your perfume!"

Oh. That's ok then.....

RedStripeLassie · 23/11/2016 08:39

This is a funny post Confused

I've had some bad luck with eBay in the last few days. Had to do two refunds Sad. I could of sent a sob story but that's shit really isn't it. I just had a cry on the bus and thought about doing more local selling instead.

Adnerb95 · 23/11/2016 08:42

When will people learn you get what you pay for?

AND that is something is mega cheap, there IS going to be exploitative practices going on so probably best to avoid?

Adnerb95 · 23/11/2016 08:43

*if

londonrach · 23/11/2016 08:49

Leave it to ebay to deal with. Ignore any further mails. Return shoes as per ebay instructions

FRETGNIKCUF · 23/11/2016 08:52

People buy Northface. That's not cheap but has an appalling human rights record and most "designer" goods like Mulberry are made in China. So please take your high horse elsewhere.

You're probably MNing on your phone made in Chinese factories with suicide nets around them.

It's all coming out now, isn't it?

SparklyMagpie · 23/11/2016 09:18

Bloody hell Grin

I agree with the previous posters who've said just open a dispute and let eBay deal with it, what more do you want?

That's the only way you'll get a refund so you either do it or you don't.

I think the only one getting on their high horse if you OP Grin
