To think ive spoilt myself with Dulux paint?

When we moved into our house we quickly painted the rooms. Over the last year we have been going back through them and making them nice.

Wilkos paint did the job, good range of colours, good price, noce enough finish.

Then I painted the master bedroom in Dulux Goose Down. It was fucking amazing - one coat, looks lush, dried quick and I stroke the walls when I walk in there.

Just gone to do one of the living room walls today with Wilkos "finest" and Im so cross. Claggy and uneven, dries transparent and has took me twice as long to do one wall than it did in the other room.

I should never have made the swap!

Its only white too; would I be mad to drive out this instant and buy some proper paint?

Totally agree with you, OP. We recently repainted our living room with dulux but did the white bits with an own brand (I think B&Q, but not 100% sure). The difference was astounding; not so much in finish (though there was a difference) but in ease of application.

By the way, the goose down is a lovely colour!

I second tanfield re Johnstones - a small independent shop down the road from me stocks it and I used it when I couldn't be arsed to go all the way to B&Q - lovely colours and finish. Can't remember what colour I did the sitting room in though - and it's going to need redoing soon (I'm a basher when I hoover) so I'll have to get a few testers to see what the original colour was.

Our decorator doesn't like farrow and ball to work with.

They never do! Because it takes more work to apply F&B. The end result is worth it though.

Ooh, just remembered Nap Dulux Endurance Chalk White is a lovely colour. A warm, dusty white.

I feel the opposite. Wilkos paint has served me much better than Dulux. For me, the difference is using a paint pads rather than a roller. I'm not a fan of Laura Ashley paint. It chips and marks too easily.

I am Shock about the number of folk who say f&b is difficult to work with. We have found the exact opposite. It covers really well. Mind you we do our own decorating and don't water it down. Every commercial decorator has refused to use it and try to persuade us that Dulux will mix the exact same colour. Except its not.

Decorators once painted our garden wall with a copy after we had said we want f&b. It looked awful and so we made them do it again in the right paint...

It was like water anyway without adding more water. I love the finish but it is dreadful to work with.

When I had a professional decorator in he checked I wasn't going to insist on Farrow and Ball because he hated using it. Apparently it doesn't go on well.

F&B, despite having lovely colours, goes on patchy and uneven. A vote for Johnstones here, we colour matched and only needed one coat. Amazing stuff.

Professional decorators not liking Farrow and Ball just means they'd prefer an easy life and slap some Dulux on. I don't think you can beat the F&B colours though.

Colortrend is the best paint in the world.

I love it so much I have a chart that I like looking at when I'm not even painting.
I've tried them all.(haggard voice) nothing compares to colortrend. Best colours, best paint.

Isn't Dulux a standard paint? I tend to buy it to do an ok job at average price.

Well, I used to but was unfortunate enough to buy one of their faulty white paint, which turned yellow within a couple of weeks. (They changed the formula and blamed the EU or something along these lines). Instead of a shiny fresh white clean house, it looked like the house had been full of smokers for the last 20 years. It took months to get less than £100 refund as an apology, I am still fuming, more about the waste of time than the money. The problem was even mentioned in Watchdog.

sorry about the rant, I could go on but we have since sold the house without repainting

We've just done our kitchen in F&B Ammonite, but using Johnstons trade paint. One coat and it looks amazing! MIL actually just stood open mouthed saying how gorgeous it is Grin

Most of our house is F&B, and our decorated has never refused to work with it. You need to find another decorated if they do! LIttle Green is also really good.

We live in a very old house and the F&B colours look perfect.

I've used all kinds of paint over the years but I fell in love with Dulux flat Matt classic range last year. The Breton blue possibly the most beautiful thing I've ever painted with 😂

I'm in process of painting my living room / diner with Dulux Endurance in Goose Down, it's is gorgeous and pretty easy to work with. Just started on 2nd coat but will finish at weekend when I can paint in daylight. Love the colour Grin

I find F&B by far the best paint to work with. Dulux is too thick and prone to showing up my lack of professional decorating experience! F&B 3 coats on top of a dulux white base layer will always give you a perfect finish. It's more work but worth it and F&B paint does go a long way because it is so thin.

I've just used Crown Trade masonry paint to paint the whole exterior of my newly rendered semi-detached house. £120 for 2 coats and still have 1/2 of a 5 litre pot left. Brilliant stuff!

Little Green is posh paint. We have some of their wallpaper. It was a treat!
