I was concerned that the dog wouldnt like the hair dryer and actually wondered if he was getting a trim as well.
he had obviously had a cut himself, somehwere.
but when i went to sit wherever i sat, with the hairdressers apron gown on me i was a bit concerned that this was the gown the dog had been sitting on

My hairdressers has a pug who will sit on various laps and snore loudly. I wouldn't take mine as they would just get in the way and add to the hair on the floor!

I am baffled by the argument that just because there are other unhygienic things/people around, that means it's okay to introduce another. Do the people arguing this apply a similar standard to other areas of their lives? Eg "well some people wee on chairs so no-one can complain if I just squat down and do a little jobbie in the doctor's waiting room" sort of thing?

And to people saying that their dogs don't smell - sorry, but they do. All dogs smell.

I don't get this "us country folk all sleep with our dogs and take them everywhere" business either. My family are country people going back generations and dogs are working animals who maybe get into the house to eat (but not always even then) and are definitely not talked about in witlessly anthropomorphic terms about "enjoying" being in cafes etc.

How Horrible Often seen among sadsacks who talk about furbabies and share their beds with animals etc
Some people, elserly, only have their pets, don't have any family or can't have children.
Pets are very good for people struggling with mental health problems.
Certainly not 'sadsacs' Hmm
I love sharing my bed with pets, along with my dh, then again i guess all my friends and their kids are 'sadsacs' as they do too Grin

JaimeLannister my idea of heaven snoring pug on my lap

I was quite surprised that some family friends of my DH brought their little dog to our wedding reception! They didn't ask, just brought it in and had it on one of their laps. I found that quite odd.

StarryIllusion · 23/11/2016 10:09

No, charles, they don't. If they do they need more regular bathing or a change in diet. They shouldn't smell any more than humans do.

CaptainCabinets · 23/11/2016 14:21

The way some of you are going on, you'd think she'd brought her pet rattlesnake to the salon.

Was the dog well-behaved?
Did he disrupt your salon experience in any way?
Was he hurting you?

If none of those apply, YABU and a sensitive Sally.

A woman came in the Doctor's today with her yappy little dog in a pram!

Namechangeemergency · 23/11/2016 16:45

Dogs are allowed in lots of places by law.
Its usually just up to the owners if they let them in or not.
I used to take my dog everywhere when I was a teen in the 80s.

Local to me there is a move to list dog friendly places and many of them are pubs and shops.

I don't see the issue in a hairdresser. I was in hairdressing decades ago and it was quite common for people to bring their dogs.
Sounds like the one is the OP is a companion breed/type. Thats basically what they are for.

Glitteryfrog · 23/11/2016 16:51

My hairdresser's has a salon dog.
He's been there since a puppy and loves the attention - I think he's happier than most dogs who are left at home while their owners are at work.
He sometimes gets invited to sit on laps.
