www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3944882/Nutter-Fort-Primary-School-teacher-snatches-microphone-autistic-boy.html

It's a DM link sorry....this teacher in a US primary school....she SNATCHED the microphone from a little boy who has Autism right before he said his line.

:(

It's made me really sad...it seems that some people have not moved past the 1970s in attitudes and think squashing children emotionally is "ok"

Some comments have said "she thought the play was over" and that the child had other lines in the play.

SO??? His face is devastating! He was really distressed! I'm inexplicably angry over this...a child so far away and yet he could be any child who has Autism....it's not ok!

i might email the school to show my support for the teacher. i hope she sues the arse off them. address on mums fb to send 'cards', definitely NOT gifts money etc Hmm

Sallystyle · 18/11/2016 16:28

FFS she wasn't even looking at him.

She took the microphone because the play was over. He just happened to walk over to speak while she was taking it away. She was unaware he was trying to talk.

People are stupid. Poor teacher being slated online for nothing. People should be ashamed of themselves.

onelastpigout · 18/11/2016 16:29

Why didn't the mother stop filming as soon as he was clearly upset?

Yes, why didn't she go up on stage? Any normal mother would have put comforting her child first, before filming that child's distress.

Mindfields · 18/11/2016 16:35

Just as I predicted, let the donations/gifts commence!

Luckily 'Mom' took time out from parenting to set up a PO Box for the avalanche of 'stuff'

quite, but "Mother gets up on stage and comforts son after misunderstanding, Teacher apologises and child fine" isnt as froth inducing.

she saw an opportunity to grab some headlines, poor kid

onelastpigout · 18/11/2016 16:35

I hope this teacher has really supportive people around her.

It's beyond disgusting how a person can be publically shamed in this way. How soon before this vindictive, mob-mentality causes someone to lose their life?

SaucyJack · 18/11/2016 16:44

"How soon before this vindictive, mob-mentality causes someone to lose their life?"

Didn't a nurse kill herself a few years ago over some furore over a prank call to Kate Middleton's hospital suite?

AChristmasCactus · 18/11/2016 16:49

I recommend reading So You've Been Publicly Shamed by Jon Ronson, it discusses this stuff very articulately.

Gileswithachainsaw · 18/11/2016 16:49

....And the teacher that had an awful piece written about her. Lucy meadows.

MissMillament · 18/11/2016 16:51

I am devastated for that teacher who has been publicly named and shamed like that. Her career has almost certainly been destroyed. Reading some of those Facebook comments the level of vitriol and spite is astonishing. As a teacher myself, I know how little it might take for one misinterpreted moment to blow your world to bits - because make no mistake that's what is happening to her. I think anyone in any public-facing or caring role is increasingly at risk of that exact scenario. Horrifying.

MidniteScribbler · 18/11/2016 16:53

Didn't a nurse kill herself a few years ago over some furore over a prank call to Kate Middleton's hospital suite?

Yes, a nurse (Jacintha Saldanha) on the reception desk put a call through to the ward that Kate was on. She wasn't involved in her treatment, or even involved with her case, but she put a call through as she was fooled but some fucking idiot radio hosts. She killed herself. She had a 16 year old son, and 14 year old daughter.

People need to stop this shit. Online shaming can ruin people's lives.

What an absoloute fuckwit the mother is. I hope the teacher is taking legal advice. I would sue the arse off her. Angry

Exactly.
People need to be educated as to the devastating effects public shaming can have on a person's life.

Online Shaming Ruins Lives

AChristmasCactus · 18/11/2016 16:58

I'm on the school's Facebook page.

Thousands of people calling her a fat cunt, insulting her appearance, claiming she's "smirking", accusing her of being a bully and a psychopath. Someone even found a newsletter the teacher wrote and posted it for public criticism. Strangers saying if it happened to their kid they'd have hurt or killed the woman - one said "she'd have left on a stretcher".

What the fuck is wrong with people?

MycatsaPirate · 18/11/2016 17:05

God that's appalling. I hope the school take action against these people. And hopefully the mother who started this.

Mob mentality at it's finest.

InfiniteSheldon · 18/11/2016 17:13

So is the OP coming back on to defend her role in the online witch hunt or is this just fodder for the Daily Mail?

Mindfields · 18/11/2016 17:15

I also hope that the parents of the children featured in the video sue the arse off the mother unless she had permission from each and every one of them to post it publicly.

What if there were children escaping DV and now they are 'out there' in a 12 minute video for the world to see Shock

The mother is all about herself and obviously lacks boundaries. Nice parenting Amanda.

MycatsaPirate · 18/11/2016 17:17

I've just been reading some posts on the school page. One of them was from another parent saying that Caleb did not attend any of the rehearsals as his parents didn't send in the permission slip. He was also meant to be a Native American Indian but asked to be a turkey instead. Clearly there is a whole lot more to this than meets the eye.

ego147 · 18/11/2016 17:23

It's really scary. In the 'old days', this would be a non story. Now it can go viral. People jump to conclusions. They can access personal details.Access social media. And then abuse complete strangers based on a bit of information.

It could happen to anyone.

Public shaming is honestly terrifying.

This could be any of us. You pick up a microphone without looking and suddenly you're all over the Daily Mail.

Terrifying.

Literally it is just good fortune it hasn't happened to you.

AChristmasCactus · 18/11/2016 17:49

The full video is also on the mum's FB and you can see him wandering around on stage when he's not meant to be there.

I think the teacher was just trying to let the boys end the play according to the script.

It looks like the mother and autistic child decided he would be a turkey and it wasn't actually really part of the play.

The fact she filmed it and let him stand there crying without intervening is also really weird.
