Childless cat worshiper...is this idea ridiculous?

jemster123 · 16/11/2016 18:23

My cat is my little baby girl. I keep seen lovely little pink pop up children's tents and thinking how cute it would be to put her a little bed in there. I just then think will it seem ridiculous to other people? You can be honest!

My cat has an igloo he sleeps in. He loves it in cold weather. However if you think your cat is your 'little baby girl' . . . er . . . let's say I don't think that's a healthy attitude. A cat is a small furry predator with its own needs and feelings, it's not a substitute baby.

TheWernethWife · 16/11/2016 21:25

We buy all sorts of silly little things for our cats, they still prefer a cardboard box though. Buy what you want for your fur baby, bugger what everyone else thinks.

TheWernethWife · 16/11/2016 21:28

Cary - your post is brilliant

Autumnchill · 16/11/2016 21:30

Ours likes a Laithwaites box! So you get 12 bottles of wine and the cat gets a box Grin

Potentialmadcatlady · 16/11/2016 21:33

My cats have one with a knitted blanket inside...they love it...it's a cat sized one and quite often when one is inside the tent the other cat hits the side of tent as it walks past just to be naughty

I needed to add something cheap to make up my order, so got one of these which has been ignored, however all other beds/tents have been used.

Mine loves the kids ikea pop up tent, to play in. Mind you, they completely ignored the posh cat beds in favour of a ragged fleece and cardboard box, so what do I know?

Flowercat16 · 16/11/2016 21:42

I have been on at DH about a play house for ages. He says no, but I'm not giving up! My spoilt cats are my babies too.

Ohyesiam · 16/11/2016 21:45

With the state f the world as it is, I think anything that gives you pleasure or satisfaction, and doesn't do any harm is a thing worth doing.

Potentialmadcatlady · 16/11/2016 21:49

That's the one I have Previously..my cats love it....I have a large ( massive) basket of toys that I rotate every few days..the tent is folded up and put away then when it's brought out a few days later the cats go daff for it...

Hygellig · 16/11/2016 21:52

Would she use it though? Our cat disdains her bed most of the time, and much prefers ours. If you think she might enjoy it then go for it.

timelytess · 16/11/2016 21:52

I had rabbits for nine years. They had mini tents and tunnels, and big tents... you look after your cat as much as you like.

ManaFleet · 16/11/2016 21:54

We built our cats a tent and they loved it. Go for it!

sallysparrow157 · 16/11/2016 22:25

When I was growing up we bought a new tent for our forthcoming camping trip, had a trial run putting it up in the garden beforehand. Cats bloody loved it - climbing the walls, sliding down, hanging out inside it... every morning on our camping holiday we watched the sun rise through the little cat claw holes all over the tent!! So on my experience cats love tents - get the kitty a tent immediately!!

ThisIsReallyNotMyName · 16/11/2016 22:32

If you think your baby girl would like then get it. Doesn't matter what other people think. I'm crazy about my pups and I dong care what other people think.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 16/11/2016 22:44

My cat loves the pop up tent

He isn't himself at the moment was beaten up by neighbour bully cat who is half his size and has a few bits over him shall get the tent might make him feel a little safer Smile

Will add a cardboard box and he will be in his own cat sanctuary

goddessofsmallthings · 16/11/2016 22:51

I bought minature sofas for my cats. They lolled on them for 5 minutes, since when they haven't gone near them.

I bought one igloo house that they loved so much they crammed themselves in it together. I bought another two igloos, since when they haven't gone near any of them.

The cat radiator beds went the same way.

One of my spare bedrooms has a loft bed that they absolutely adore. If I left the door to the room open they'd take up residence and I doubt I'd see them except for mealtimes.

Ime cats never get bored with a box and will happily sleep on a shelf rather than the expensive alternatives provided for them, nevertheless, I'm now off to buy them a children's pop up tent for Christmas. Smile

kali110 · 17/11/2016 01:59

Dh is not happy, i'm now browsing Grin
(Though for it's for 2 adult and one baby rabbit as my cats wouldn't not be interested except to rip it.)
Don't worry op, my pets are my babies too Wink

TheClaws · 17/11/2016 04:22

Get her the tent, but don't but disappointed if you like it more than she does. I'm a bit demented when it comes to my cat, too. I have to be physically pulled away from shiny displays in pet shops of frilly unnecessary, but fun, things. She has a name but I so often call her 'baby girl' she responds to 'baby'. My teenage kids think this is sickening but they're just jealous...

IAmNotAWitch · 17/11/2016 04:42

Cats are like kids. Doesn't matter how special/expensive the gift is, they would rather play with the box.

NotYoda · 17/11/2016 06:12

Ours has a lovely soft squidgy bed.

She sleeps on a step. And as she is a bit podgy, she spills over the side of the step.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/11/2016 10:37

"Ours likes a Laithwaites box! So you get 12 bottles of wine and the cat gets a box"

So every time your cat needs a new bed, you have to buy wine, Autumnchill - what a result!!

If this thread shows anything, though, it is that most cats are bastards. So many stories of people buying their cats luxurious beds, only for them to turn their furry noses up at them. This is why I do not buy CatBastard expensive beds - he would spurn them.

But since ds1 moved out, and we turned his old room into a spare room, with nice IKEA sofa bed, TV and sky, CatBastard has adopted that as his own room. He hasn't learned to turn on the TV or operate the sky box. Yet.

shovetheholly · 17/11/2016 12:39

Having bought everything under the sun for my 17 year old moggie, who has turned his kitty nose up at almost all of it, I can confirm that the best presents in cat world are a soft washable bed, a pack of Dreamies and an empty cardboard box.

JustDanceAddict · 17/11/2016 18:01

My DD made a tent for our cat but she wasn't interested. You know what cats are like - buy them a nice bed and they sleep in the box!

SillyMoomin · 17/11/2016 18:06

My cat is my mini fur baby sabine

Stop being a grouchy-puss Wink
