I would say twin 1 as he was born first but then I think twin 2 because of the time born.

Some twin friends of mine used to joke that the second-born was the eldest, because he had the maturity to wait and say "after you" to the first one :)

FrancesNiadova · 15/11/2016 21:17

I'm the younger twin, (baseline failure right there!) Sad

Oh, I understand about which twin would inherit in normal circumstances (thanks though goddess) - but would there be any legal ramifications for this example? Would they take into account of GMT and DST as previously suggested or not? I'm guessing they would, but would it be grounds for contesting any inheritance?
There were twins in my antenatal group who were born either side of midnight - led to a few people asking if they were still twins HmmConfused

Ginmakesitallok · 15/11/2016 21:31

I'm the youngest - by 5 minutes. My db is my big brother....

YourDaughterHasATattoo · 15/11/2016 21:31

I've often wondered (before they changed the rules) what happens with twins born either side of midnight on the 31st August and 1st September?
You're right Eve it is fascinating Smile

AuntJane · 15/11/2016 21:54

Meadows - No. Current time of birth, where the child was born. No rationalisation if time zones, click changes, etc.

YourDaughter I knew twins like this, they went into the same school year but I'm not sure how it was decided which one, maybe the parents were given the choice.

YourDaughterHasATattoo · 15/11/2016 22:14

Hmm, I wondered if they'd do that flamencina.
Wonder how they decided...

Siblings (and other family members) often give birth order a lot of weight. Our twins were born by CS, and DH & I feel that it was arbitrary which one the obstetrician happened to grab first.

So for several years, we decided not to mention to anyone (even their grandparents) which was born first. It sounds a bit eccentric in retrospect, but we didn't want other people's birth order bias to affect their early development.

When they were of school age, the twins asked us who had been born first, so we told them, and let them make the decision about who to tell and when.

I'm a younger twin, which meant I didn't often sit in the front of the car, as that was a privilege for older siblings.
I remember being told that in some cultures the last twin out is considered the older, as they were conceived first so are behind the first born twin.

EmmaWoodlouse · 18/11/2016 17:27

I instinctively think the one who was actually born first is older, but I also think it doesn't really matter. They will both have the same birthday, it's not as if they were born before and after midnight. If their parents want to make a big deal of who is older they will just have to say that they both are, and can take it in turns to have whatever privileges they think it confers.

I'm actually made more uncomfortable by the fact that their DD has what I consider to be a boy's name (though very outdated).
