To think the woman who thinks Tesco 'shamed' and 'guilt-tripped' her for buying formula

is being a little bit dim?

You might not like the policy, but it's not difficult to understand that it is imposed on the retailers from above, is it?

It was clear that just buying formula wouldn't validate your parking

I don't think it is. My local supermarket has a £15 minimum spend to get free parking (even at night when there are about 3 people in the car park - but then why does the local council even charge at all at that time - different point I know, I will stop digressing!). There is nothing anywhere that says that it does not apply if you are buying cigarettes or formula milk or other restricted items. I have to say I didn't realise, although I neither smoke nor feed a baby. I would have been as Shock as this lady was.

weavingawickerbasket · 12/11/2016 15:32

She is going to be one those mothers. Complaining about everything and running to the Fail whenever her little daaaaaahlings experience something that's "not fair". Idiot.

weavingawickerbasket · 12/11/2016 15:33

This is not discriminating against non BFers because breast feeders don't get free parking either without a min spend on eligible products.

Sums it up nicely

slightlypeevedwombat · 12/11/2016 15:35

" do the pointless little rant anyway."

isnt that the point of AIBU?

Manumission · 12/11/2016 15:40

She wasn't in AIBU. It was Tesco's FB I think.

OP posts:
HeCantBeSerious · 12/11/2016 15:44

I thought it was brought in under EU legislation? Could possibly be talking out of my arse though

It wasn't, so yes you are.

RubbishMantra · 12/11/2016 15:48

I didn't think Tesco charged for parking? My local one doesn't.

laylabelle · 12/11/2016 15:50

My Asda charges due to the town centre location. To many would probably take the mick

Can understand why she's annoyed if didn't realise but to run to the papers over something that probably can't be changed..seems pointless but guess people do these days

MrsHathaway · 12/11/2016 15:52

Our nearest big Tesco doesn't charge but the city centre one fifteen miles away does - because it's very near the good shops and the bus station and the .

abbsismyhero · 12/11/2016 15:55

my tescos charge for parking because people take the piss and park without spending any money in store they have a five pounds minimum spend as far as im aware there are no restrictions you spend the cash you park for free

midcenturymodern · 12/11/2016 15:57

I don't think not having your parking validated is guilt tripping, shaming or abusing her. I've picked up prescriptions at Asda and not had enough cash to make the min purchase so have had to pay £1 for parking. I didn't feel shamed that my child has asthma though. I felt pissed of at myself for being a disorganised fuckwit.
I think Tesco might be stretching it calling free parking a promotion. Nobody is going to buy formula, and nothing else, to scam free parking out of Tesco.

roundaboutthetown · 12/11/2016 16:05

The people being dim are Tesco's lawyers. There is absolutely no need to interpret the legislation in the ludicrous way they have.

Marynary · 12/11/2016 16:09

I think it is a bit "dim" to go on about "guilt tripping" as if she thinks Tesco actually care whether she breastfeeds her child or not. Clearly, they are just complying with what they perceive to be the law. Whether or not they have applied it correctly is debatable but I can see why they don't want to take the risk.

OurBlanche · 12/11/2016 16:10

Maybe, but if that is their considered policy, rather than an overanxious individual's interpretation, then that is their right!

There's no law that says you can't give free parking for cigarette purchases either, but Tesco seem to have that policy - with no complaint from anyone here - and no, I am not suggesting formula is as unhealthy as smoking, or any other equally mad suggestion, just stating the legal point.

TheImpossibleGhoul · 12/11/2016 16:13

They validated my parking today and I had just bought cider. It wasn't for a baby though.

OurBlanche · 12/11/2016 16:17

You must have looked 'respectable' Ghoul Smile

roundaboutthetown · 12/11/2016 16:19

In what way is it dim to use publicity to try to pressure an organisation to interpret the law sensibly?

OurBlanche · 12/11/2016 16:22

Maybe Tesco think it is sensible. Shows their commitment to the code and law... They can have any car park policy they want, after all.

Or maybe they are just trying to hide their continued lw breaking

OurBlanche · 12/11/2016 16:22

Ooops! law breaking and promoting SMA:

gluteustothemaximus · 12/11/2016 16:26

This shows that it was clear

To think the woman who thinks Tesco 'shamed' and 'guilt-tripped' her for buying formula
OurBlanche · 12/11/2016 16:26

Well, there you go then! Policy.

No more to be said!

whyohwhy000 · 12/11/2016 16:28

Don't blame the WHO, blame Nestle.

FleurThomas · 12/11/2016 16:29

To all the idiots questioning what condition would result in a medical need for formula:

Severe Lactose intolerance in combination with low weight/failure to thrive.
Mum having an illness/being on medication that taints bm.
Severely premie baby
Baby who can't latch properly (sometimes even due to congenital defects).

roundaboutthetown · 12/11/2016 16:36

Tesco can have any car parking policy they want, but if it is based on a misinterpretation of the law, they must accept it can be challenged. They must also accept that damage to customer relations can result in a change. It is not dim of a woman to take advantage of this.

FallenSky · 12/11/2016 16:37

It wasn't, so yes you are.

Not the first time, or the last I should imagine Grin Although in my defence, I'd read about The Infant Formula and Follow-on Formula Regulations 2007 and it mentioned something about an EU directive so that's why it was in my head that it had come about due to the EU.
