I've seen him in a few things but don't think he's very good. E.g. The Missing at the moment.

Everyone else seems to love him.

He is lovely and also 6' 3". Which is nice.

Tartyflette · 11/11/2016 00:17

Well, Madonna took a shine to him (just after the Blackpool series, I think) and scooped him up to star with her in one of her dreadful films. Poor chap.
I think he's not bad at all. He was great in Blackpool and good in the Missing which is just wonderful at the moment. Shocking moment this week!
makes a mental note to watch State of Play

MrsToddsShortcut · 11/11/2016 00:40

State of Play is incredible. And you also get added bonus John Simm, Mark Warren, Bill Nighy, James McAvoy and Kelly McDonald. Top top quality drama!

auldfuckingspinster · 11/11/2016 00:43

First saw him in a thing called Holding On, so would. He's married to Esther Freud so Lucien Freud was his father in law.

He is probably a lovely man but he looks like the type who takes himself too seriously....

AmysTiara · 11/11/2016 18:50

Magic A woman in work knows him and says he's lovely and very down to earth.

I have no strong feelings about him Grin

Magicpaintbrush · 11/11/2016 19:01

Ahh...I have been a judgey pants. I will revise my opinion :-)

He was OK in the Doctor Who Christmas special but generally he's pretty overrated.
However given even 1/10th of a chance I really, really would Grin

He was in something years ago with Timothy Dalton, could have been called Framed?

Oh and I would too. Oh yes.

pinkiepink ah I loved that! Thank you! I might watch it all again actually. He is so mmmmmm! DM that is not DT

ElsieMc · 12/11/2016 09:04

Yes, baffled by him. Watching The Missing and remarked to dh how odd I found him, aloof, uncaring and cold. Wake up man, your dd went missing and is presumed dead. I also find her (Keeley Hawes ?) strangely cold and emotionless even though she portrays the emotions. She did remark in the press that playing the role affected her deeply but it did not affect him so much.

Best acting by the girl (whoever the hell she may be) who is truly creepy and looks like she should be in The Returned and the investigator from the first series.

MargotLovedTom · 12/11/2016 09:16

Hmmm, that Blackpool scene is strangely homoerotic Wink. Don't know how people can say he's wooden and not versatile when watching the clips on here.

Also, re The Missing character - he has been upset and cried. He's been angry with his wife for expressing doubts about the girl's identity. When she first came back he was gentle and wary about the best way to interact with her.

If he's not snotting and snivelling all over the place 24/7 then it's probably something to do with him being a soldier and being used to buttoning up emotions.

polyhymnia · 12/11/2016 10:56

That Blackpool clip is fabulous - makes me want to rewatch whole thing. That was the first time I ever noticed DT too.
That and State of Play are top favourites ( not least because I also like John Simm and Bill Nighy). And, having read book, thought he was just right in South Riding.

I've been in love with him since One Summer as well! I think he's a fantastic, charismatic actor who is great in everything he is in, who chooses his parts very wisely. Great there's so much "Blackpool" love here as well, that was truly brilliant.

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 12/11/2016 12:31

He does the Santander 123 ad as well as the razor one

WomanFromAnotherPlace · 12/11/2016 12:37

YABVU! Grin
I love him. DSister and I got into a heated debate as to whether we'd prefer The Governor or Rick.
Although I saw a film he directed and didn't think much of it. Stay in frontof the cameta, Dave!

WomanFromAnotherPlace · 12/11/2016 12:42

Oh, and to the PP who said Julien Baptiste, yeah I totally would as well (even when he was in Gold Blend ads). In fact, Julien over David Morrissey.

GoEasyPudding · 12/11/2016 13:36

I remember "Framed" as well. Totally awesome. "State of Play" of course, so star studded.

My personal favorite for a sheer undiluted David Morrissey experience has to be "Basic Instinct 2". Watch it if you dare!
Sharon Stone seems to have quite bad hair dos in it - so don't say I didn't warn you.

deadringer · 12/11/2016 13:47

I loved him in 'the 7.39' on tv and everything else he's been in. I am glad not everybody wants him, gives me a .00000000001 higher chance of snagging him. I lufs him.

FallingOffALog · 12/11/2016 21:43

OhBlissOhJoy not just me that remembers that then
