I've seen him in a few things but don't think he's very good. E.g. The Missing at the moment.

Everyone else seems to love him.

Totally agree. Always plays the same character too that I've seen. Grim middle aged middle class twat with anger issues.

alltoomuchrightnow · 10/11/2016 18:28

This has just reminded me that I have the True Love DVD here and therefore shall be watching it later (only ever caught the DM episode on tv)
It shall remind me of his hotness so there :)
Haven't watched Walking Dead so can't comment.

YouHadMeAtCake · 10/11/2016 18:29

He is a great actor and I also, totally would. Seem there is a queue!

ArmySal · 10/11/2016 18:34

YABU, I think he's luvverly.

TheWernethWife · 10/11/2016 18:39

Love him. He was so good in the series "South Riding", brooding widower who falls for the school headteacher. And yes, I would as well.

LittleLionMansMummy · 10/11/2016 18:44

I agree with you op. He only ever seems to play the same kind only characters. A good actor to me is one who is versatile and can make you love his character in one thing and despise it in another. Like James Nesbitt or Robbie Coltrane. Perhaps I haven't been exposed to enough of his work though and am completely mistaken?

LittleLionMansMummy · 10/11/2016 18:45

Oh and I totally wouldn't.

WLF46 · 10/11/2016 18:46

Morrisseys in the entertainment world are usually over-rated, Neil Morrissey, (Stephen Patrick) Morrissey for example. It's hard to think of a decent one actually. Morrissey the consumer monkey, perhaps?

Grin
YouHadMeAtCake · 10/11/2016 19:23

Wernethwife thank you for the heads up on that, I've never seen it and so I am now watching the first episode. DM is looking rather handsome!

MargotLovedTom · 10/11/2016 19:26

He is versatile! Ripley in Blackpool was brash and larger than life; the Governor in the Walking Dead was menacing and psychotic. He played a character called Leo in a TV movie called Big Cat years ago. It really stuck with me because his portrayal was so good: he started off as the perfect charming boyfriend then his nasty side began to come through. He's really believable.

Charley50 · 10/11/2016 19:49

I agree he always plays the same guy. Does nothing for me. Loved One Summer a million years ago though.

Charley50 · 10/11/2016 19:50

Ps I was thinking the same thing, while watching The Missing, last night.

Ruprecthepanbasher · 10/11/2016 19:52

Hmm, not keen either I'm afraid.

Now the man who plays Baptiste in 'The Missing'... he's lovely even if he is 20 years older than me and looks slightly like my dad Confused

TaliDiNozzo · 10/11/2016 19:52

He was very good in The Walking Dead and State of Play. I have The Missing recorded but haven't watched it yet so can't comment on that.

YouHadMeAtCake · 10/11/2016 20:05

UGH! Councilor Huggins in South Riding. Grotesque.

Willow2016 · 10/11/2016 20:14

Loved him in the Dr Who xmas special and TWD. Hardly wooden as the Governor goes through multiple personalities depending on his agenda/situation and real emotional/personality changes.

toomuchtooold · 10/11/2016 21:30

I saw him in an improv theatre thing in 2007 and he projected this air of just... likeability, empathy, I don't know. It was really odd, very affecting. However, he was playing a middle aged dad whose life wasn't quite as simple as his mild manner would imply, so... let's just say not a massive stretch to him in terms of his acting range Grin

leapyearbaby · 11/11/2016 00:00

He does zero for me. Devoid of charisma. But the missing is ace. And really startled me last night.
Jamie (psycho killer) Dornan in the Fall however. Yes please.

JellyBelli · 11/11/2016 00:04

One Summer! Thats so wierd, I havent seen that for years and thought about it yesterday.

QuimReaper · 11/11/2016 00:05

I read most of this thread thinking of Neil Morrissey with a face like this Confused

littlesallyracket · 11/11/2016 00:09

I saw him in Hangmen in the West End back in February and he was incredible - his performance was absolutely compelling, and it was a really challenging role too.

I haven't seen him in The Missing though.
